The easiest way to find out if it is whole wheat bread is to eliminate wheat/gluten from your diet for a couple of weeks. If you don't have the stuffed-up head and puffy eyes during that time, it's probably a pretty good bet you have a sensitivity to wheat/gluten.

May be one of the ingredients is causing an allergic reaction. Ditto on seeing an allergist or else cut out the bread and see if "no symptoms" appear. Then at least you are narrowing it down to what might be the cause.

RIBKNIT: Sometimes you have whole wheat bread in the evening. Do you always or almost always have the allergic reaction the next morning? Or just sometimes after eating whole wheat bread. I personally eat a lot of whole wheat and multi-grain bread and wraps and pizza crusts, but then I am not allergic to whole wheat. If you don't eat whole wheat bread for a couple of weeks, but continue to wake up, at least occasionally, with allergies, then the bread is not the culprit. Write down dates, when you ate bread and when you didn't, and what mornings you woke up with the allergies.

I tell you what; it could be anything. Go see an allergist. That's what my husband had to do.

There could be a lot of things that make you feel and look that way in the morning, how long has it happened, over a year or so? Some people look and feel like that every morning, because that is just how they are. Even if they don't eat a thing. I don't think it's the wheat, I think it's something around you, only the wheat thing is the latest hot topic. An allergist would have you eliminate something for 2 weeks or so, and see if there are changes. Eliminating just one or two days isn't enough time. Ragweed and Elm is what's causing my allergies right now, it will last until the first or second hard frost.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

It is possible, but as the other Sparker suggested it could be another allergen. Right now is a high allergy time with Fall and outdoor changes. You need to try elimination...try the pillow covers...see what happens...then eliminate the whole wheat...see what happens! You can get an allergy anytime so anything is possible!Good Luck!

I'd guess allergies to your pillow instead. It could be dust mites, which tend to collect in pillows. You can purchase special allergen pillowcases that zip up, or buy new pillows (which is probably cheaper).

Sometimes I have toast or a sandwich for supper or as an evening snack. I'm not sure if this makes sense but I seem to have a stuffed up head the next morning, and puffy eyes. I'm not certain it's the bread, but does anyone else have this experience?

Every time I take a bite, I make a choice.
