I agree the Yahoo news is just fluff. That said, I read the Yahoo Headlines only every morning while I'm waking myself up with coffee. I only need to read the headlines because the story itself tells me little more.

Comparing BBC news to Yahoo is kind of like comparing The New Yorker to Seventeen Magazine. Yes, they both have the word "news" in their names, but BBC World is produced by a serious journalistic entity dedicated to news, while Yahoo is produced by a search engine named after the noise a cowboy makes when there's somethin' other 'n' beans fer dinner! Honestly, I think it's pretty much MEANT to be a bit of an insult to an adult's intelligence.

If you want a comparable site with an American perspective, try looking at PBS NewsHour or NPR.org. Those are the US equivalent to the BBC, and IMHO they have superior reporting skills and much better English grammar and usage. BBC presenters may have posh accents, but only about half their verbs agree with their subjects, and they can't tell the difference between "me" and "I" to save their lives.

I, like you, am a reader. I read our local and our state paper daily as well as several on line news sites. The more "popular" sites like MSN and Yahoo definitely write to the lowest common denominator. Very little meat and lots of fluff!

But, sometimes a little fluff is fun!

I love libraries. I used to spend several hours a day in the library every summer. I was so proud when the librarian let me check out books from the "adult" section when I was 9 or 10 years old, lol. She was such a great teacher, she guided my summer reading and encouraged me to always look for more information.

Since learning to read many years ago, all my live I have loved to read. One of my favorite places to visit in America are the libraries. At one time I had three library cards, but one of the library cards was in a larger city where crime has soared so I gave that one up. I no longer feel safe going there. I spend about two hours each day reading BBC World News on the internet. I drink my morning coffee while doing this. I spend about 15 minutes skimming over Yahoo News. There is a tremendous difference between the two. Not long ago I spent by far most of my time reading Yahoo News. Now it seems almost an insult to my intelligence. Do any of you have any thoughts on this?

Be well my friends and good luck winning our war on weight.

I have lost 6 pounds. Though I am not trying as hard as I feel I should I am very happy about the weight loss. Good luck to all of you.
