I do not understand this trend but then, I am of a generation that put on a dress and your Sunday shoes to go shopping downtown.

I have seen many people in many places such as stores, restaurants, etc. Unfortunately, most of the the people I have seen are wearing dirty pj's and slippers. I have worn mine out to the mail box or the garage but that is as far as I will go.

I have to admit I have worn pajamas in public...however, it was for pajama day at the school I was teaching at. Since I wasn't going to change to just run into the grocery store I ran into the store wearing a t-shirt and what were clearly pajama pants. I got a lot of looks until someone saw my school badge and commented loudly "Was it pajama day at school today?" I had to laugh. I don't like driving to and from Pilates in workout clothes since I feel they're sloppy looking. But that's just me. I don't like feeling like a slob.

I was raised that you put your pajamas on when you went to bed and changed when you got up and cleaned up. For me, I would never leave the house in my PJ's unless there was some type of emergency. But it doesn't keep me up at night. To each their own, just not for me.

I didn't really understand this trend of wearing Not Pants (leggings, jeggings, yoga pants, sweatpants, athletic wear, pajamas, onesies, tunics with tights) until I tried to actually find some comfortable pants that fit for a reasonable price.

Not possible! I no longer judge and have joined the trend & started wearing yoga pants & exercise clothes for errands like the grocery store or other daily shopping. Pajamas I just can't do, though.

I guess this is not just happening in my immediate area. I have never seen anyone in actual pajama bottoms in public or wearing bedroom slippers.

I have only seen the one young man walking on the street in short flannel pants in a neat plaid pattern, plus the display in the store of men's flannel pants, mostly in checked patterns, such as hunters might wear. They were not pajamas.

It is bad enough when you see people in their flannel pajama pants at the store, but then they have their bedroom slippers on too. LAZY!

I don't think that it is indecent, just incredibly sloppy.

Wearing my nightgown in public wouldn't be indecent either as everything is covered...but it's still not OK!

flannel pants with characters all over them are a big difference than basic plaid flannel pants.

and flannel is the perfect weight fabric where I live for first thing in the morning or late at night.

I don't wear pajamas pants out in public. Ok maybe in the early, early morning to walk my dogs but that is it.

It is so easy to just put on a pair of real pants, jeans or shorts.

I do wear yoga pants out in public on rare occasion. I think there is a big difference between a pair of black yoga pants and a pair of scroungy flannel pants with characters all over them.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

In my previous post I mentioned that I had not seen much wearing of pajama pants in my area. But I did notice a young (to me lol) man walking today wearing long flannel shorts. They did not look anything like pajamas. Then I saw a display in Wally of the long flannel pants in the men's section that seemed to be what is being discussed in this thread. I didn't think they looked like pajamas.

So just agreeing with previous posters who don't know why flannel pants are called pajamas.

These were pants.

I think flannel would be very hot, which is probably why I don't see a lot of people wearing them in my area, which is basically a desert.

Well as you are only asking my opinion......I personally think, and this is just my opinion, that pajama pants are for home not walking around the mall in. I would croak without the yoga pants to dash around in but no one needs to see my jammies.

I wear yoga pants and/or flannel pants to take my kids to school sometimes. Big deal. I am a work at home parent and walk/run as soon as I drop them off. I have enough to do during the day; getting all made up for a three minute walk to school, just to please a bunch of people I barely know, is just not a high priority for me. I shower and get dressed afterwards on those days. and look perfectly presentable by the time I pick them up.

I assure you I care about myself. Not caring about what others think is not the same thing, and other people's tender sensibilities or judgmental tendencies are not my problem.

I don't really pay much attention to what others are wearing and don't really care, which is probably weird when you consider that I try to make myself look as neat as possible when I leave the house. I'm the type that will shower before going for my daily walk. Even when I've been dog-sick, I never left the house without dressing nicely... to the point that even my doctor would be surprised that I was sick. It's how my mom is, so I guess I get it from her.

I don't think it's weird, as long as their smart about it and they leave things to the imagination. I have wore pj bottoms before to the store if I'm not feeling well but then I'm right back home. Pj's bottoms are meant to be comfortable, so why not use them!

I have done it. Either because I'm sick as a dog and want to be comfortable (just running to a store to get medicine or soup) or we are running to the ER. My son can get sick very quickly (trach). One night I heard his alarm go off, he was burning up. From the time I took his temp to the time I was running out the door was maybe 2 minutes. Just enough to give him medicine and grab his medical equipment. I was still in my night gown. LOL.

Sadly, this trend seems to come around every 20 years or so. I am not a fan.

Seriously people, this is why yoga pants were invented!

the pajamafication of America. Sad

When DH got his first pair of flannel pj pants he loved them. He wore them all the time. One night we were going out for dinner and he had them on. I refused to leave the house until he changed clothes.

I see it as just not caring enough about yourself to look your best. Now, I'll admit that I don't change clothes after my workout if I'm headed home, so I frequently go to the grocery in my w/o clothes.

the ONLY time I'm in flannel pants outside of the house is walking down the drive to get the mail or possibly with the dogs in the backyard.

I also have a BIG problem with Crocs. UGH. I know the devotees talk about how comfortable they are. Sorry, they are just too hideous for me to even consider putting them on my feet.

COMFORTABLE does not have to be ugly

I agree with HAFRUN except for one thing. Define decent. It is not cast in stone so it follow what people want and is VERY FEXIBLE. I don't like the current extreme trends but one must consider that I am 78 and things have changed a lot. As a young person, zoot suits were the common attire for the "hip". Then came the biker look alikes.

I'm with LADYCJM....I work at a university and am appalled at the dress code. PJs, slippers, shorts up your butt crack, tank tops that leave VERY little to the imagination, clothes so tight you can tell someone's religion or so baggy that you can see their religion, and the list goes on and on. I know we are supposed to value people's right to self-expression but please, have a little self-respect and respect for those who have to look at you. Wearing clothes that are clean, fit properly, and are appropriate for the situation really isn't that difficult. PJs are for bedtime and lounging around the house not for getting coffee at Starbuck's or going to work. Have a little common sense.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

I don't mind any sort of pants so long as they are clean and hemmed. I think it's yucky when people's pants drag on the ground and are so long they walk on them. They get all ragged and dirty on the bottoms. I'd rather see someone wearing a cute pair of pajama pants that are hemmed properly any day over someone whose pants are dragging on the ground. I've also noticed that some women are letting their long skirts/dresses drag on the ground. What's the deal with some people letting their clothes hang on the ground? Fashion trend, lack of simple sewing or life skills (they even have that tape these days to hem stuff with, so...), laziness or..?

I can only speak for what I've been told by a few of my former students about high school girls who wear pajama pants to school: easy access.

The district I work in now includes pajama's in their dress code violation list. The only exceptions are elementary classes that have the kids come in PJ's once a year for the story read-a-thon kick off day grades 1 - 3.

Yes I see them here in FL and I think it's weird. The only time I thought it was acceptable was on a along airplane flight when a group of about 20 tweens came aboard in their cutest PJ's with totally outrageous slippers, you could tell it was a group thing and no body looked out of place.

Huge issue in NZ and seems to be from around puberty to 40ish - think it is terrible, PJs are for blobbing at home, maybe dashing to the letterbox not for going out, popping to the shop, café or even taxiing your kids around

even worse than PJs are the damn onezies (no idea how that is spelled)

I'll be honest I don't really see anyone wearing them in my area any more. I guess my thoughts are better to have on pajama pants than no pants.

I was raised that you should look your best as you never know what might happen or who you may see. That goes for making my bed as well. My parents had us bath and dress up just to go shopping downtown. We were a reflection of them. emoticon

I have been reading about this on another board and thought they were kidding........I saw someone at a Mall wearing those, I thought he was someone who was in the hospital, but was let out to have some fun for awhile, to go shopping with his parents. Thought he was sick!!!

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

I don't see it much where I live.
I don't really care if people wear pajamas in public unless they are wearing them to a funeral or going to work like that.

Pajamas in public is not acceptable attire in my opinion. It only takes a second to put on a pair of pants. I see pajamas and bedroom shoes in places. I think one should take care in what they wear in public.

I love love love flannel pants but not as pajamas. they are so much more comfortable than sweat pants.

This is an unfortunate college trend that has spread to the general population. Personally, I think it's juvenile and looks dumb and adults should know better.

I was raised that you did not leave the house wearing sweats, pajamas, hair curlers, mud packs etc. I was told that to do otherwise was to be disrespectful of the people who had to look at you!

Anyone else think it is weird to see people out in public in their Pajama Pants. I see them in stores, picking their children up from school, Today I saw a Thirty Something Young Man walking into a Bank wearing Pajama Top and Bottoms. Is this going on everywhere or just here in the Northeast? When did it become Acceptable or Fashionable?
