This sort of idea worked quite well for me at one point, with quitting smoking. I didn't "pay" myself exactly, instead i kept all the money i SAVED from not buying cigs, in a "reward jar." Boy did that reward jar add up fast. Makes me cringe to think how much of my $ literally went up in smoke.
I kind of wish I'd done the same thing with weight loss. One of the biggest changes I've made is stopping the fast-food-lunches... if i work out the difference in cost between my packed-lunch and the fast food lunch I would have bought, I bet i'm saving a net average of four or five bucks a day. 250 days in to my New Lifestyle, that saving adds up to.... omg round about a thousand bucks.
