First of all THANK YOU for your help!! I looked back at my popcorn, yes I had made an error which I had input the entire bag of carbs for one serving. On the pickles it is 10 carbs (but they are the sweet ones though) I really want to thank you all for the great suggestions. When I lost all my weight before, I only had carbs at breakfast and for the rest of the day I really tried to just do protein & veggies.

But like you had posted I need my good carbs, not the bad enriched starchy things. I was really freaking out about the popcorn, so glad you all caught that!!
Have a great day!

I'm on a reduced carb diet right now and here are a few things i found which are "good" carbs. Rice is good, just don't go by the enriched rice. I buy mine in bulk at Sams Club, usually Jasmine. Have you tried quinoa? It's OK, and needs lots of flavors. Whole wheat or grain breads instead of white breads. Look at the labels when you shop and you should be fine. Avoid anything that say enriched, those typically have extra carbs. One of my newer favorites is rice noodles, they make good spaghetti.

Eat your favorites in moderation until you get where it's not life or death if you don't have any of the bad carbs for a while.

Best of luck!

Yes, there are definitely errors in your nutrition information. Carbohydrate has 4 calories per gram, so it's impossible for your popcorn to have 108 carbs but only 60 calories. If it had 108 carbs and NO protein or fat, it would still be 432 calories. I think maybe it had 18 carbs, not 108.

Also, you have some pickles listed with 13 carbs and 0 calories. That's not possible, either. If there are 13 carbs, there have to be at least 52 calories.

Look at your labels, and make sure they match what's in the tracker. It doesn't look to me like you're really going over your carb limits.

If you look at the bottom of the daily report, there is a pie chart that "slices" the major nutrients The allowance of carbs is 50 %. That is pretty decent. We just need to choose carbs wisely !!!

I agree that you are over stating the carbs in popcorn! This is from the USDA:

I suggest you check the nutritional information on the bag - I think the entry you are using for popcorn is inaccurate. I looked at several entries for "Act II" popcorn products and they are mostly about 4 grams of carb per cup. Yet you have an entry that says 108 grams, but you only ate 4 cups... overstating your carb intake by 92 grams!!!!

This sort of inaccuracy happens fairly often when you are using user-input items (identifiable when the name of the user is displayed in brackets beside the name of the item).

If you are going to reduce carbs, I'd start with the refined sugar/refined flour/highly processed items first (pop, toaster pastries, candy). Popcorn is actually a pretty good choice for a snack - lots of "snack satisfaction" while actually having some nutritional value to it.

Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

Please get a referral from your doctor to see a real dietitian, that person can help figure out a menu for YOU that is made up of foods that YOU enjoy, portion sizes corrected, of course, but one that you can live with forever. Also, don't think carbs, think starches, you will miss fruit soon enough, and you can have fruit and still lose weight. Lifetime, you know you will want to eat fruit again, so no point in giving it up. Try the dietitian first..............

I found a low carb cook book and have exchanged several recipes. It's cut down on the carbs we consume, and still keeps us within a normal range. I've also noticed that many store brands have less carbs, salt, &/or sugar then the name brand. That's a simple way to cut back on a few carbs here and there.

I have to watch my carbs because I'm diabetic. I've had to cut way, way back on the popcorn and watch the bread portions. Maybe you can have it as a weekend snack and go for something else during the week. Also, I always have some protein when I'm having carbs. It helps balance it out. Good luck!

Blessings,
Nancy

Hi,
I just started back on SP. I noticed I exceed my carbs quite a bit. I see that my biggest carb's comes from my popcorn I eat for a snack. Any suggestions?
