I have recently had my second hand carpal tunnel surgery (stitches out tomorrow). I know what it's like. If you go to your general practitioner, be sure to ask if the hands might need to be evaluated by your hand surgeon. S/He may be able to give you some perspective on what you can expect and if there is a reason for your discomfort. Also an Occupational Therapist may also be able to help you figure out what options there may be for you to do these exercises with an adaptation. Good Luck.

I wold encourage you to discuss your desire to exercise with your doctor and possibly even get a referral to a physical therapist. As much as we on SP want to help, we can't do much when health issues interfere with exercise. Anything we suggest may make your personal issue worse as we don't know your health history.
In the meantime, remember healthy living is 89% nutrition, 20% exercise. In other words, you can't out exercise a crappy diet. So, if you can't do a lot of exercise right now, you can montor what you eat and how much.
I have a 3 year old daughter. When she was born, we had attachment issues, so couldn't breastfeed (despite working with 10 different lactation consultants and midwives). However, our little girl was allergic to lactose, soy, egg and peanut, so we struggled to find the right formula for her (one that she could hold down). In the end, I expressed milk for her 10 hours per day for 10 months, until we found a formula that she could stomach. As a result of expressing, I developed severe carpal tunnel syndrome and had double hand surgery. It is now about a year after surgery. My hands are a lot better, but I am careful not to lift heavy weights etc. or they get really painful again (especially my right hand). Now I want to start exercising again, to lose the weight but am struggling to find a wide range of exercises for me. (Even things like yoga often require you to place your weight on your hands for extended periods of time.) Thanks in advance for ideas, suggestions and sharing from anyone who has been through anything to do with carpal tunnel syndrome. :-)
