I agree with moderation. A cup of coffee won't help or hamper your diet efforts...however if you drink sugar loaded lattes 2 or 3 times a day well.....common sense.

If we are just talking the caffeine, it makes no difference in my book.

If you need to add scads of sugar or half and half... well.

I stopped doing sweetener with my coffee decades ago (before I was overweight, even).

I am now phasing out milk. I was (sometimes am) doing whole milk, and dropping from that to no dairy at all). I am not putting watery 1% or 0% "milkoid products" into my coffee -- what DO they add to those things to give them any flavor at all? I'm working on going Cold Turkey with the milk.

Only exceptions are really bitter commercial coffees that have sat around cooking too long. At home I've been doing no milk in coffee for about a year. Out, I test, and if I know a place (such as the cafeteria at work) has overly bitter coffee, I do TEA. To which I've never added anything.

Got rid of the ticker cuz my scale decided to flatter me unduly. I haven't re-gained, just got a better, honest, scale.

Just because you steam it, doesn't mean you can't add herbs and spices. (A gripe at those insipid restaurant "healthy choice" menu selections.)

Coffee and caffeinated drinks do not make you fat unless they have other rich ingredients. Black coffee and most diet sodas have almost no calories. But are they "bad for dieting?" is your question.

I don't think so. In fact some diet pills contain caffeine. I think it gives you energy and that is a good thing if you use it in moderation so that you don't get jittery or find yourselff unable to sleep at night.

I'm curious about what you mean by sachet and why it has so many calories. Black coffee is essentially calorie-free. Does it contain sugar? Chemical sweeteners? Oils?

Caffeine can be dehydrating, so that is yet another reason to consume it in moderation. I say that moderation means 1-2 caffeinated drinks a day. I don't count anything caffeinated as part of my water totals for the day.

As long as you are not having it too late in the day (if you mess with your sleep, that can stall weight loss) I see no reason why you could not have some (real) coffee now and then. I like mine with soy milk.

As far as my experience with drinking coffee and losing weight goes, I found that usually if I were hungry and had already met my calorie requirements for the day, drinking a couple cups of coffee curbed my hunger. I'm not advocating that one should drink coffee in place of eating or that it is healthy to drink too much coffee. I found that, in my case, if anything, caffeine seemed to be good for my dieting.

But, yes, all things in moderation.

As an endurance athlete, I drink two cups of coffee every morning with the exception of 24 hours prior to a big race. I think, as others have said, everything in moderation.

I'd say it's bad for sleeping and your heart. Caffeine is notorious for raising the blood pressure. That's one of the main reasons why they say energy drinks are bad for you.

MALIKSEEMIN,

As another person noted, it depends on which study you read. From my own reading, it seems that caffeine (coffee or tea) in MODERATION can help keep your heart healthy. There's a famous article called the Caffeinated Runner. Many runners drink coffee prior to a run, not me for assorted intestinal distress reasons. eh-hem.

Does coffee inhibit a person's ability to lose weight ? It shouldn't. When it comes to weight loss or weight gain, what matters most is what we eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. As long as you're drinking coffee in moderation, that's fine.

Look at all the studies that show that a glass of wine a day can decrease a person's risk for heart disease. there really is a lot of information out there, but personally if you drink it sensibly, that's fine.

Just try to avoid those heaping coffees that Starbucks, DDs, etc all sell. It's those 12-20 oz jumbo mocha iced coffees that really pack on the pounds. Those coffees can easily have 400+ calories each. a small 4-6 oz regular coffee with a teaspoon of sugar won't hurt.

It's fine for most people as long as the consumption is not excessive.

read 3 different studies and get 3 different answers.
Bottom line ... moderation...and enjoy

next question....what does moderation mean.
Stick around ...they'll come out with a study on that too emoticon
