I just purchased Total Soy from Sam's Club. It comes in a giant bag for $20. One of my friends has lost about 75 pounds with it. He just mixes it with water and puts in a few pieces of frozen fruit and ice and then blends it. He told me that he has also put lettuce and other vegis inside also and it still taste great. At first he replaced two meals and ate one healthy and some fruit throughout the day if he got hungry. Now, he is only replacing one meal on most days. I just got my bag and it does taste great. I got chocolate and I blended it with ice, a few frozen blueberrys and a frozen banana. The first time I just used water and shook it up. It still taste great but it gets alot thicker with the ice and so it fakes you into thinking you are more full than you are.

I think the bag has almost 40 servings.

Patti, what you described is what I take now it's called body by VI and it's so awesome for weight loss and for taste. I mixed mine this morning with cantalope and a banana and it was so awesome. You can message me if you want to know more privately. Also there is an app that tells how to make over 1000 shakes with VI. Good Luck,

Juan

I am very picky person, and when I first started using protein it took my husband and I a long time to find something I could stand. What we have used for years if the Vitamin Shoppe brand called their Body Tech Whey Tech Pro 24. Here is the link

I use a protein whey powder after I work out mixed with skim milk yet I never use liquid to replace a meal. It won't fill you up and won't give you everything you need in terms of potassium etc as a real meal would. Now that being said, if you are really really pressed for time once in a blue moon is fine just make sure you always have fruit and nuts with you at all time.

I like the Atkins vanilla too and keep them on hand in case I need some protein and don't have any other source.

I've used a lot of them. When Consumer Reports came out in 2010 with a piece on how heavy metals have been found in my favorite ones, it gave me pause, but I still use protein supplements for shakes, just less and some I won't use.

Whey is the main source of heavy metals in protein supplements, apparently. I like some of the vegan ones, some soy and some of Jay Robb's, including one with egg protein.

I also like the vanilla Atkins ready to drink ones and have used them with fruit in smoothies sometimes, after chilling them.

Resolved in 2014 to remain below 120!

I actually get one through my doctor. It is only available by prescription. I also buy one at the health food store or Whole Foods. I would never just buy one without doing research. Many of those sold at the store contain heavy metals, including Muscle Milk. I think it was Men's Health Magazine or Prevention that did research on them.

many moons ago I used a protein powder and lost 150 lbs!!!!!!!!!! I also ate with this and kept the weight off for years until I got lyme / fibromyalgia and wasn't able to work any longer or exercise properly. I can't find the powder , but omg it worked so good I dropped most of that weight in the first year!!!!!!!!!!!! and it was no effort really.
I had a shake for breakfast with toast, then another at break (at work) with fruit then at dinner I had a frozen dinner anything as long as it was 300 calories or less and a big salad , then before bed I had another shake OMG the weight was melting off of me, I was buying new clothes every two weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God I wish I could find that one again!

Starting to like the new me!
Waiting for my garden to come to life!

I like Healthy and Fit Heavenly Chocolate Egg Whey Protein Powder. I mix 1 scoop with 1 pkg of Carnation Carb Free Chocolate powder in water. 23 grams protein for 166 calories. I have this for breakfast 300+ days per year as I don't really like to eat in the morning and this tastes like a glass of chocolate milk.

You can also mix this in milk. they also have a strawberry and vanilla flavor.

I purchase "Casein" protein & "Whey" Protein from Bodybuilding.com.

Casein digests evenly throughout the day for about 8-hours. 1-scoop (comes with package) is taken with breakfast. I mix it with 3/4 cup 1% milk & stir that in with my oatmeal. I use vanilla flavor primarily.

I use one scoop of "Whey" protein on workout days. I mix that with 16-oz of water & 1-scoop of flavored BCCA powder - Orange or berry flavor. Whey is digested within 20 to 40 minutes & too much will quickly add to your fat. Its great to take when exercising - I sip it during workouts.

If you like smoothies I'd recommend "Casein" to avoid a protein rush. It mixes well with fruit in a blender.

Good info can be found on Bodybuilding.com

I suspect you'll get a lot of differing viewpoints on this one! but that's good - you need to research the alternatives on your own, too.

I prefer whey protein. I'm not so keen on soy, since it's so full of anti-nutrients. I spend too much money on supplements to bind those nutrients up with soy and make them unavailable to my body. I avoid anything soy that's not fermented (doesn't matter what I *try* to avoid, we're still getting a load of soy in most foods anyway).

So, since I favor whey protein, the brand I like is Designer Whey™. The flavor is good, and although there are some with a wider variety, I'm perfectly happy with the ones I get from this brand. I usually mix mine with almond or coconut milk, or a combination thereof. The directions say water, but I prefer the slightly thicker consistency. I use more than the single scoop sometimes, too. Of course, you can use those alternate milks *with* water, too. Just depends on your tastes. I use these as meal replacements when I'm not using my Atkins shakes.

The flavors of DW™ I have right now are truly "flavors," but I believe they may also produce an unflavored version. I've seen recipes using unflavored whey (or other) protein powders.

Good luck in finding one you like! I'm sure you'll get plenty of testimonials for favorite brands here!

The reason I am so interested in the protein powders is because I had great luck losing weight when I used it, and I was never hungry -- had a lot of energy. I, too, would like to get all of my nutrition from food, but I just like too much of it, if you know what I mean. I don't have any food allergies, so any suggestions are welcome. What are some good brands? What do you do with protein powder? Etc.

Thanks for your responses.

i am not condemning protein powders at all......but you might consult a nutritionist before you invest. i turn out to be allergic to the whey powders, but soy based products are ok. my nutritionist prefers that i get my nutrition from actual food sources.

it doesnt matter if you run slowly.........you are still running faster than someone on the couch!!!

You might check the protein powders and green smoothies in Tana Amen's book The Omni Health Solution. I like her smoothies even though they look like green sludge.

Years ago, I joined a women's club for exercise and weight loss. They offered a powder that I could blend with fruits and other foods for a drinkable breakfast or lunch that offered all the good nutrition I needed for one meal. It was a delicious vanilla flavor. The club eventually closed, and I never could find any similar powder that tasted as good.

Now, I am seeing a lot of protein powder recipes on SP that I would like to try making. As well, I would like to include the powder as one of my meals as a smoothie during the day.

I need help finding a good powder. Anyone with any suggestions? I've looked at Muscle Milk at Costco, but don't know if it's what I need.

Also, any good concoctions with the powder would be greatly appreciated.

emoticon Thanks for your replies!
