My sister has long hair and has since her teens. If you ask her to get it cut she will tell you that it is her hair and is up to her how she wears it.

It is your hair and you wear it how you want. I would not want anyone to tell me how to have mine cut with the acceptation of my hairdresser.

Long hair is sometimes easier to manage than short hair.
Do what makes you feel happy, or go see a wonderful stylist who knows their stuff and get a professional opinion.
Hair is an easy way to keep DH happy, so whatever he likes.

emoticon Cut it short and make it easy to take care of rather than worrying about it. You have so many other really important things to accomplish in your life, that spending a lot of time on your hair shouldn't be one of them.

This is a cultural belief that has changed. Women no longer have to cut their hair to 3" long when they turn 40. I would guess that this is where your grandmother is coming from and that you hair doesn't actually look bad.

Sometimes I wonder why women with awful, insipid (mousy, thin, straight) hair tend are often the ones who grow it down to their waists...but if this is not you, do what you like!

I have the opposite problem--people always tell me that I should grow my hair longer, but it is crazy-curly-dry. It grows ridiculously slowly and breaks off by the time it gets to my shoulders.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

Your grandma is living in the past, I remember when I hit 30 yrs old my mother said OMG you need to cut your hair now cause women of your age shouldn't have long hair!!!!!! WHAT? I remember living near a woman who was a teacher and she had long grey hair that she'd put in a bun and my mother would talk about her "who does she think she is having long hair at her age"? I mean really? My mom was probably your grandma's age she passed at 89 yrs old.
Don't listen to her, your husband will tell you the truth about your hair and it's length that I know men usually like longer hair, but it really matters how you feel not anyone else.
I am 49 yrs old LOVE my long hair, I wouldn't cut it for anyone. I didn't cut it short after having my son even though it would of been easier to get ready and so many said oh you should just cut your hair it will make things easier for you...
Your , your own person do what you want it's not your grandma or your aunts business how long your hair is or your reason for having it long. Mine makes me feel younger and good about myself hair is the most important thing to a woman well most women, not speaking for all.
Do what makes you happy! emoticon

Starting to like the new me!
Waiting for my garden to come to life!

I appreciate all the feed back... I have had all lengths of hair. Right now my hair is an inch below my bra strap. I style my hair every day ... I think I will add some NEW color and some layers.

No way.....keep it long. Long hair is so versatile.....just wear it up in a bun or a pony tail when the elders are around lol. I'm 50 and my hair is still long and my hubby loves it. Sometimes I feel like maybe I should cut it shorter since I'm 50, but nah, I like it long and the person I sleep next to everynight likes it long, so it's all good. emoticon

It does matter what your husband thinks, far more than others. If you are content and your husband loves your hair, then why would you consider listening to someone else, love your grandma but don't let her control you.

Let it get just a bit shorter, then cut it again and do like that until you reach a good length for you and it won't be a great shock. Getting it cut short all at once would be a drastic change you would have to live with until it grew back out, so go short in stages.

If you're truly concerned about how you look and your Gramma has been a good benchmark for that, then why don't you ask her what she thinks would look better? Just because you ask for her opinion doesn't mean you have to adhere to it, but out of curiosity. Maybe she has a good suggestion. I know that growing my hair long meant that I would go longer than I should between cuts and it would lose any style and make me look a bit dragged out.

Sometimes a bit of colour or a new "shape" can fix that without having to lose alot of length. Short hair is much harder to maintain too, so if you think you want the hassel of short hair rather than being able to throw it in a pony tail on a bad hair day, again something that YOU have to consider. It is your head, your hair, your life, but it never hurts to clarify someone else's opinion and make your own decision based on all the facts.

Though we cannot control the winds, we can adjust the sails.

If YOU like it, keep it long. If you chop it, please donate it to Locks of Love! If your grandmother's complaint is that it just hangs there (no style), then maybe think about wearing it up or something. I have seen women with long hair but it's all scraggly on the ends and they don't do anything with it. I don't like that, to me that is not attractive at all. If you start styling your hair and she still complains, I would think she might be jealous of your long locks.

You NEVER regret a workout!

You said you love your hair long and so does your husband, so I would say NO. Don't do it unless you want to. I agree with what a PP said to tell them in a nice way that it hurts your feelings. Also, you may want to consider wearing it up when you visit them. They can't say it "just hangs there", if it doesn't.

wear your hair the way you want...it's your hair...
however.
when someone gets a makeover...and if they have long hair...the stylists typically give them a hair cut...and they 99.9% of the time...they look much better.
Trying something new can be fun....and changing your appearance can give you a new outlook. If you are even considering it, I would do it.
What do you have to lose...Hair grows.... Just don't go drastic.

It is your hair, not theirs. If you love it long, then you shouldn't cut it. I would be blunt to your relatives and say YOU really like your hair long and they should drop the subject.

You might explore other long hairstyles if you always wear it the same but you don't have to cut it shorter to make a change.

I'm not sure how long it is, to your bra strap? your waist? Maybe cut it an inch or so. Maybe add some long layers. Style it differently. My hair is fine and thick and tends to "hang" as well when it's not styled. Experiment with different products if you want. But as long as you like it, then don't listen to anyone else.

I agree that you should do what you like not based on others thoughts. I know it is hard though when you get comments. Could you nicely say to your grandma that it hurts your feelings? If you do decide to cut your hair why not try going gradually shorter? Another thought when you go to your grandmas could you pull your hair back?

My hair is long... I have worn it this way for ...well, I had to grow it out first so I would say 3 years not counting the grow out stage. I love my hair long but my grandma and her sister are constantly badgering me about how "IT HANGS THERE" how they hate it and on and on. She has done this to me for years and for the most part I don't care... BUT THEN I started thinking... what if she is right? I wouldn't ever say that to my grand daughter (if I had one) unless if maybe it was true. She is suppose to want the best for me.

I'm sure my friends would tell me my hair is great even if it was green and falling out but my grandma she is blunt! My husband loves my hair and I have been using him as an excuse so she will leave me alone! Her response was pretty funny, "There comes a day honey when it no longer matters what your husband thinks!" LOL! What are your thoughts...

CHOP OR NOT?
