The day I found this article, there were two teenage girls making fun of me under their breath at my gym. They each weighed around 100 lbs.--skinny, but not fit.

I'm still 20-ish pounds overweight. What isn't obvious to look at me is that 3 years ago I was bedridden and weighed almost 100 pounds more.

I guess it was nice to realize that I'm not the only person in this situation.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

Thursday after work, one of my co-workers and I were talking weight loss and I heard myself telling her "this is decades in the making". This article reminds me of that moment... not many people know that in the moment I choose not to have the Friday Office Goodie, I've been working on being able to do that for 20 years...I'm only 34.

Good article.
We never really know another's reality.

I remember once, while conducting a trunk show at a dept store, a lovely woman approximately in her 60's. She was softly humming an a tune, dressed in her Sunday best finest, complete w/ matching hat. I imagined she had just attended church. She just had such a joyous way about her, and seemed so happy.

I just had to comment, "You just look so nice and seem so happy today!"

She responded, "Why, thank you! We just buried my mother and it was the most beautiful ceremony it could have been."

The woman truly was genuinely happy and at peace, and her joy did show, though I never would have guessed at why. I've never forgot that important lesson: you never know another's reality.

Like the article you linked to describes, you never know what someone has gone through or what they are going through right now.

Great reason to try our best and be kind to one another.
