Opening presents at home Christmas Eve after shopping & church. Then Christmas day visiting extended family & doing it all over again: eating & presents.

I'm just not giving up on me. I will never stop trying to be healthy, no matter my failures and shortcomings.

Every year we go as a family and get our Christmas tree, then we all take a part in the decoration of the tree.

My family tradition is the annual Christmas tree fight in the woods. We hike into the forest (sometimes at high altitude, through the snow) argue about which tree is the right one, then saw it down and pack it out. While slightly dysfunctional, this is good in terms of physical fitness!

Other traditions include Thanksgiving beach hikes and building an Ano Viejo for the New Year. That one is hard to explain...basically it involves making an effigy of the old year and setting it on fire at midnight. It's a Latin American thing.

Dances: salsa (standard/LA), casino, rueda de casino, cumbia Colombiana, bachata, mambo, cha-cha-chá, merengue, reggaetón.

Currently learning: Mexican cumbia, danzón, Cuban rumba

Dances to Learn in the future: flamenco, tango Argentino, samba, belly dancing, bhangra, ballroom rumba

DH's family tradition on Thanksgiving is to go to Churchill Downs for the races (he's from Louisville)

mom always let sis & I open ONE Christmas present on Christmas Eve. It was always pajamas (for pictures the next morning). Sis and I didn't figure this out until we were in our teens. I did the same for her kids - bought them new Christmas pajamas every year.

The Beloved and I go to a Christmas Tree farm and cut our tree down every year. It's something I did with my kids and even though they are grown and gone, it remains important to me. Oh.. and I bake. Not the volume I used to, but I still bake and share the goodies!

We get back our mete as we measure....

We open our Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve. For about the past 10 years, we have made a tradition of giving a joke gift to one or more of our family members -- no one knows who it will be, however, or what funny thing may arise out of the gift, so it's always a fun and humorous surprise for everyone.

Last year, we gave everyone light-weight, fabric snowballs and had a snowball fight (something we hardly ever get in Arizona)!

Keep a sense of humor. Remember, laughing burns calories too!

Laugh until it hurts! It's one of the few things in life that's still free!!

Growing up in my family we always got a new board game as a family gift for Christmas. We would spend the afternoon playing the game together.

Not the New Year one, I did it for many years with my on children, but then they grew up and are moved far enough away, that they cannot come home for every occasion.
I still do the Window Lights on Christmas Eve.

What a wonderful tradition to have :-)

Is this still practiced by the following generations?

On New Years Day, the entire Family, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, would all go to Great Grampa's House. All the Adults would give the Children whatever change they had in there pockets. Great Grampa would give each child a Silver Dollar. This was the start of a prosperous New Year.
On Cristmas Eve we would leave the window Lighs on all night, to represent the new light in the world, with the birth of the Christ Child, and of course to light the way for Santa.
