I lost about 50 lbs by doing SP and going to the Y and doing classes. Like you, I am cancelling my membership due to cost. I always feel guilty driving to the gym and going on an elliptical to look outside and see people enjoying the outdoors. I am thinking of buying an elliptical for my basement for days when it is not so nice out and i cannot get outdoors. I also have a dog to walk so that is another reason I often feel guilty heading to the gym. I think I just have to be motivated and stick to a plan.

I seem to benefit when i explore life's healthy options. I like that the gym I joined has vacation suspension.

I bought a treadmill, now saving for a spin bike... love it being right downstairs. I also do workout dvd's and have some hand weights. It really saves time and NO excuses!

When I first got started, I needed the gym because it was just too easy to bail on at-home workouts. That changed, though, and I've found a lot of dvds that I love. I schedule my workouts, though, for when I have the best chance to be successful and only do things I like.

My favorite DVDS:
Amy Dixon's Breathless Body and Breathless Body 2: The Edge (Both tough, high-intensity workouts)
I like Beachbody's Turbo Fire, but if you don't want to get the whole set, you can purchase individual HIIT dvds that just have the shorter, high-intensity workouts.
Bob Harper's Cardio Conditioning and Pure Burn, Super Strength

I also have been running outside a lot lately and have really been enjoying that.

Motivation will get you to the start line; discipline will get you to the finish.

set yourself up a home gym! don't forget to get outside and play with the kids, or play like a kid, sometimes too.

I just set up a simple gym in my basement. I purchased some floor mats from Sam's Club for the floor. I set my tv with dvr in the corner so I can use some of my fitness tapes and I have hand weights and a treadmill and weight bench. I currently rotate each day. One day I run on the treadmill and the next I do a fitness tape. I follow spark people advice and commit to at least 10 minutes each trip to my fitness room. P.S. I always stay longer than 10 minutes.

you have to do this the same way you would if you were going to the gym - put on your workout clothes, and schedule a time to exercise.

I do Pilates at home, and we have a BowFlex. I usually do my home workouts in the morning, first thing. I also have some free weights and resistance bands.

I would recommend setting up an exercise room, if possible. That makes it a little easier to make the point to others (and yourself) that you are 'at the gym' not at home.

For me; I have always liked working out at home BUT, I know lots of folks who can't seem to quite discipline themselves during homw workouts vs gym workouts and sometimes end up putting it off to the next day or worse, not at all.

Try it for 6 months and see how it goes.

USING SP TO HELP YOU KEEP TRACK OF WEIGHT LOSs, CALORIE INTAKE AND EXERCISE "IS" THE SHORTCUT!!!!!!

Today I just cancelled my gym membership of 2yrs... during that time I lost over 50lbs
But the cost of the gym is getting to the point where I rather spend my money on other more fun things and I wanted to start to challenge myself outside of the box and start working away from the machines and classes..

yes I love the classes esp. Zumba, but I will miss everyone, but the fact is, I do not wish to keep depending on machines to get my workouts in. I think I can do better outside and in my home.

I need some advice from those that went from the gym to home.. what obsticals did you have, what was the hardest adjustment, what things do you do now?

I am wanting ideas on things other than just walking/hiking lolol

Push on all!!!! Make it fun, make it interesting and that is what I wish to do!
I am excited of this new challenge and I look forward to what new experiences I will have to do!

Plus the fact of it being fall, I LOVE photography and getting myself outside and for my workouts I think I can come across some awesome photography scenes too lolol
