For the first 12 weeks it's just optifast, and then you transition into eating real food again. After that it's fruit/veggies and soups, one serving of dairy is permitted per day.

I don't think you're going to get much positive response here. Optifast isn't generally considered a healthy option. It was created as an emergency, last-ditch, short-term treatment for people who were so morbidly obese that they were going to die if they didn't lose weight fast. Emergency treatments have high risks. If you're going to die in a few months because your organs can't keep up with the size of your body, then it's worth the risk of osteoporosis or minor heart or kidney damage to save your life-- just like if you have cancer, it's worth the damage chemotherapy drugs can do to you. But you wouldn't take chemo if you didn't have cancer, and you probably shouldn't go on a VLCD like Optifast if you don't have complications of morbid obesity. If you DO have life-threatening obesity, then you should be under the care of a doctor full-time, not using a do-it-yourself diet.

If you can do 4 shakes and one healthy meal, you can probably do three healthy meals. Have you tried the SparkPeople program? If not, start with that or another calorie-controlled meal plan with mild exercise. If you did try Optifast, you would eventually have to get off of it and use a calorie-controlled eating plan the rest of your life to maintain the loss, so you might as well skip the Optifast part and go straight to the rest of your life!

I'm considering doing the Opitfast diet however, I understand that you can do 4 shakes and 1 meal. What kind of foods can you eat and how much?
