to the OP - at least it wasn't at work.
at my former job, we would use discontinued rental furniture as our office furniture. One of the chair styles was notorious for doing exactly what you described - if you lean too far back, you'd end up in the floor on your back, feet in the air - and unable to get out of the chair or get up without help. Many times you'd see a pair of wingtips kicking above the cubicle wall, and hear 'help me!'
If I had a $ for every person who tipped over in those chairs, I could have retired about 5 years ago.

Last night I went to a fundraiser. The attire was very fancy. I wore a dress that was slightly tight. It needed a little help zipping up, but zipped and still comfortable. While at the party the zipper opened! Thank God I was close to a restroom and was able to fix the zipper. This was beyond embarrassing at 1st. Then I found it to be motivating. I will continue to live healthy and this dress will soon be too big!!!

Don't be embarrassed - that is EXACTLY the sort of thing that those alarms are for!!!

I have been to many people in situations similar yours, and some 'less' needy - like inadvertently leaning on the button :-)

We all have those moments. I passed out at my grandson's karate school after donating blood. They called 911 and had me taken to the hospital. Embarrassing isn't the word, when I realized I wet myself.

Don't be embarrassed......I fell asleep in the dentist chair last week, woke up and asked the dentist if the person in the next room was snoring as I could hear them. The dentist and hygienist nicely told me I was the only one in the office.....thank goodness I didn't drool!

Thank you one and all for your response....I truly appreciate it. Let me add, before my husband and I were married, he had been an EMT for over 15 years. He had told me of many of the sad things he witnessed and that HIS knees were bad from leaning on them so often in a moving ambo on the way to the hospital with a critical patient...so I know all too well what these folks go thru. My concern is that the city (including me) pay for this service and I would wish that it isn't abused or used by people who truly don't need the help. I guess (maybe) that I have to learn to accept the fact that at my age (27, of course) I have now graduated to being on of "those people"

Anyways, thanx again....it is comforting!! .

Don't be embarrassed. Someone I used to take care of (a young man with disabilities) would push his lifeline button regularly when he got stuck sitting on the toilet and couldn't transfer back to his wheelchair.
The point of the lifeline is to provide assistance should you need it for anything. And on the plus side, I know for a fact that first responders appreciate having a call that in the end isn't serious (not to diminish what you went through, but they often see terrible things that have a bad resolution while yours was resolved positively). My uncle is a fire chief in a large city where he sees terrible things everyday. He loves going on a call that ends well with no property damaged and no one seriously injured.

Glad you were able to get help. I fell in my house and could not get up because I cannot use my knees and thought I would have to call 911. Thankfully I scooted on the floor to my recliner and then pulled myself up backwards in the seat and then I could get up. No reason to be embarrassed. You have a lot of company with bad knees and so thankful you were not hurt.

Well it's good you used the lifeline that's what its for remember the commercial? I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP!
Well that's what happened to you , so don't be embarrassed it's better then you being trapped there and possibly causing more damage to yourself. I'd find a better chair to sit on or the sofa, it's surprising that you didn't feel the chair go over you must be a heavy sleeper hahaha god bless you I'm glad this had a happy ending! emoticon

Just think, you gave those first responders a "Good" situation to go to. Often times the situations they go to are grim, so helping you up off of the floor was probably a nice change from their normal duties emoticon Plus, I'm sure they were glad to help!

I dozed off in the family room last night, while sitting in a very comfortable rocker...which I guess I tipped over while sleeping... AND I couldn't get up because I can't lean on my knees.
I had to end up pushing my lifeline button and getting 911 help! They were quick, so helpful and not only am I embarrassed that I used services that should be saved for more important situations, but that it happened at all...and because I don't want to watch TV in bed!! Guess I'm not planning to use that chair anymore!! It just doesn't have the balance for me.
