I buy CDs of my favorite artists but I burn all my digital music to CDs as backup. MP3 players get lost or stolen or break and computers crash. I would be devastated if I lost any of my music.

The same thing goes for pictures. I put my photos on CDs or on memory sticks. I've lost some pictures because of a computer crash. It will NEVER happen again. I also have some photo albums so I can show them to visitors.

I still have a landline phone, I write checks weekly, I have a subscription to the chicago tribune, I still have aol, photo albums, a rolodex on my desk at work and a vcr/dvd player in the bedroom.

I don't think I'm old school I'm just plain old.

Now they just toss the phone across the room.

I use a mouse pad. I hate the finger thing on the laptop and the optical mouse works better with the rougher surface of the pad.

I am kind of old school and I still buy CD's

I do buy specific songs for MP3 and books for Kindle

It kind of saddens me that there is an entire generation of kids that will not know the satisfaction of slamming the phone down.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

Guess I'm more "old school" (like STRONGERLEANER). There are a LOT of things we / I still do at our house.
...like dh refuses to own a cell phone ...land line ...mouse pad ...a car that will still play my cassette tapes ...CD's for music ...coupons ...real books, newspapers, magazines

Guess we just don't need the new "stuff". Satisfied with what we have.

Pretty much everything everyone has listed in this thread have gone the way of the dinosaur as far as I'm concerned.

I can't think of anything to add.

It is a brave new world.

Hurrah!

Sort of.

I kind of miss phone booths, haven't seen one in years and years, but they were kind of a pain to those of us then working out in the field in the profession I used to be in.

They took those away long, long ago in the area I am in. One day they were here, the next day gone.

Sad.

I sort of miss the old Richard Simmons original, one and only, handy dandy Foodmover, too.

Obsolete ... the Foodmover, not Richard, who is still around.

Moving in new directions.

I still buy CDs (used of course) for the simple reason that hard drives CRASH. Unless you make sure you have a back up, if your computer dies, all your itunes go with it. Even if you use icloud for storage, that doesn't have every electronic song you own. How many SP members have horror stories about trying to restore their itunes library ? I have a few of my own.

What I like about electronic music is that I can buy single songs instead of an entire CD. But yes, I still buy used CDs because some prices on music mp3 or otherwise, can get really pricey. Same thing with DVDs. I buy used DVDs all the time. Of course, how many people said that Blue Ray was going to make DVDs obsolete ? that ain't happening. Looks like DVDs are going to outlast Blue Ray.

When I was growing up, back in the Dark Ages, we had a rotary phone. I miss that phone. I enjoyed listening to the sound the dial made as the dial rotated. My family also had a party time. How many remember those ?

Call me old fashioned, but I miss pinball games. They just don't make games like that any more. Don't get me wrong, I play Angry Birds and Bejewelled, but I miss pinball machines. I miss the tactile sensation of pressing the flippers and watching that silver ball fling around the table.

Oh yeah... and beepers. I had a beeper for work. I know some doctors still use beepers.

PS - I print hard copies of my digital photos to put into a photo album. Why ? See above. If you don't have a backup, not only will you lose your itunes when your computer crashes, but you lose all your photos too. which is why I print hard copies of all the great photos I take.

Was throwing stuff away the other day and found my daughter's old beeper. Remember when we would configure the numbers being sent to someone else's beeper to resemble words?

Don't have a dictionary laying around the house anymore. Nor do we have to carry a load of books around anymore.

Don't need the road atlas or maps when we travel.

No clipping coupons either -- I use all mine from my phone.

I very rarely keep cash in my purse since you can use a debit or credit card for everything.

I hate that pantyhose are not fashionable anymore, cuz my old legs look better with them.

Don't need a stereo system any longer -- we just play music direct from our computer to speakers.

Fun subject!

printed photos & photo albums - kind of sad. People take more pictures than ever, but rarely look at or share them (other than via social networking tools)

oh - and phone books. I still have one, but usually defer to online sites

I think I'm just old-fashioned. I still use a lot of stuff that other people don't.

I still use the fax machine, although not as often. I still use my mouse pad when I'm using a desk top. I still write paper checks and when I travel by car, although I use a GPS, I still like to have a paper map with me.

I think I use a combination of the new and old. I love my Kindle but I never want a time to come when there are not printed books. I read the newspaper and some magazines online but normally, I still like to have the paper copy in my hands.

Okay, Myspace, ICQ Messaging, Netmeeting, Angelfire (for webpages), And yes, the phone booth and phone cards to use with phonebooths or landline phones.

Palm Pilots and other such gadgets from the early to mid 2000's.
Poloroid camera and regular film loading cameras

I still use and buy CDs even though I also rip them to mp3s for my iPod. I still write some checks though I pay some online.
And even though I try to add all contacts and phone #s to my phone and other tablets and gadgets, I still find that I use my paper address book...a lot!

I still write snail mail letters sometimes. I just wrote one to my cousin this morning even though she has email and a phone. :)

Typewriters. I no longer have a typewriter. Once in awhile I have a form to fill out that it seems like a typewriter would be handy but really I know how to find ways to get the form filled out using my computer so it is just not worth it, so even when I see typewriters at yard sales, I happily pass them up. They say desktop computers are going to become obsolete but I certainly hope not. I do most of my work at a desk and I find the screen and keyboard set up more comfortable than a laptop will ever be.
And the idea laptops, too, will be completely replaces by tablets and phones is absurd. Even on forums like this, I constantly see people stating "forgive the mistakes, I'm typing from my phone (or iPad). I love my phones, iPads and tablets, but they are not as good for more extensive amounts of typing or doing work. They will do in a pinch and portable to throw in your purse and take anywhere, but really if we have more extensive work or typing to do, then it is better to just take the laptop if you have one.

we still have a fax in the office - and use it a good bit. It's only MAYBE 5 years that we had email at work (tightly regulated business & ALL correspondence must be pre-approved)

and I'm still old school with my music. I buy CDs. I do rip them to my portable devices, but I still listen to CDs in the car and at work (listening to one now)

isn't it odd that we still use the term 'new record release'? When is the last time anybody bought an actual vinyl record???

bars of soap.

Used to use that as a standard all over the house for hand washing or bathing. But now all we have is the liquid. In fact, we've been transitioning to the hands free liquid dispensers even! Now the only time I see a bar of soap is when we're at a hotel. I "collect" them as souvenirs and they just sit in a lingerie drawer.

A note on the phone booths: I was between cell phones last week (mine died due to sunscreen exposure) but I still wanted to go visit the BF who lives a train ride away. The trains were delayed due to a broken train and the phone booths at the station *were not working* and had been out of order for quite some time. Seriously, people?

I still write cheques here and there! Yet the telephone booth issue is a big pet peeve of mine. There are people who cannot afford cell phones and rely on the telephone booth -- I think they should leave them at malls and drugstores at least. I actually broke down and purchased a cell phone the other day, I used to rely on the Booths but they are so hard to find these days.

I started a thread like this before but it was about outdated stuff from long ago like 8 track tapes & skate keys; this one is about RECENTLY outdated stuff like Rolodex's and Mouse Pads.

What have you noticed that's maybe you used 10 years ago and now you didn't even realize that you don't anymore?

Public Telephones (and their booths).
