I think you have to be comfortable with the person in order to be comfortable with the DVD.

If I was annoyed by the person on the dvd, I wouldn't do the workout very often. There are lots of other dvd's so I would choose something else.

Of course not. If you don't like it, why would you spend money on it? If somebody tells me a dress is very well made and the fabric is top-quality, but I don't like the color, I'm not going to buy it.

And it's not a question of being judgmental or anything. Refusing to work with a live person because you have an unreasonable dislike of something about them is different. That's a person with feelings, and there are probably things about you that they don't like, so you have to figure out how to get along. But this is a product. The person on the DVD has no way of knowing what you think and probably wouldn't care anyway. It's just about personal taste, and you never have to buy an entertainment product that doesn't entertain you.

no, I wouldn't buy it. Whenever possible, I prefer to try before I buy (the library has TONS of DVDs)

I have a few DVDs that I find annoying for whatever reason. I don't do them. Don't waste your cash on something you wont do. Find some you like and spend money on those. That being said, I do get annoyed with Leslie Sanson's incessant chatter, but since her DVD's are easy to follow, I hit mute and turn on my own music.

I would just say "Thank you for the recommendation" and leave it at that. You don't have to tell them whether or not you bought the DVD. I know there are certain workout DVDs that I like that not everyone else does. That is ok with me, and I don't feel bad if they choose not to try it. It's ok if my friends and I do not always like the same things, after all, it would be a pretty dull world if we all liked the same things.

Definitely no. There is nothing worse than being annoyed during your workout and you will eventually stop doing it. It's only good if you use it. There are plenty good ones out there so find one that you like and will do.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

There are so many different dvd's available with all different kinds of instructors.... Personally I wouldn't buy a dvd that had an instructor I found annoying. I also do not care for workout dvd's where everybody is dressed in super skimpy clothing that looks more like underwear, than workout clothes. (Just a personal preference.) If you really wanted to just try a bit of it because your friends were raving about it.... you could borrow their dvd for a couple days. Or see if your library has the dvd for you to borrow. You could look on youtube for a sample of it. Or collagevideo.com lets you look at samples of videos.

There are so many different kinds of dvd's available. I know I don't care for any Insanity-type workout. And I don't like kickboxing at all. Doesn't matter how much one of my friends might rave about it. I don't like it and therefore I won't want to do it-- so what's the point.

I probably wouldn't purchase it. You have to like the instructor to want to follow his or her instructions. (And I am basing this purely on an instructor's style, not appearance. Judging a person's face, when they were born with it, isn't fair in my humble opinion.)

What happens if you've heard that it's a good workout and has been highly recommended by many but you just don't like the person, say you don't like his/her face or you find him/her annoying. Would you still buy the DVD?
