If your calories burned through exercise are fairly consistent from week to week and day to day (meaning you're not doing tons of exercise one day and a small amount the next), then I'd choose the option to have them not communicate. That way, your calorie range is based on your calories burned goal, and as long as you're burning close to what the program thinks you are, you should be on the right track.
