I've heard stories about the things that happen at Band Camp.

Hmm...stories of band camp are usually better left at band camp. Some stories just get everyone into trouble. emoticon lol.
We couldn't afford to go anywhere for band camp (our school didn't help us at all! - literally our director was paid and we had a room but everything else we had to pay for emoticon ). We were at our school from 8am-9pm for 6 days. On the 7th day we had a 5 mile parade. For a few years after HS I coordinated a color guard for a drum corp. I miss color guard. Not band camp so much though. lol

Oh how I'm going to miss my kid being in band! She just graduated; marched cymbals for 4 years in marching band and winter drumline. SHE'S already missing the nice suntan she'd get from band camp (despite using bottles of sunblock), and the arm muscles!

I reckon it's taking the good with the bad. You *could* quit band and then not have to stand in the sun sweating profusely for a few days. But I think you'd say overall it's worth it, to tough it out. Sort of a "survival of the fittest".

I never joined band camp. My upright piano was always too heavy to strap around my neck.

Reminds me, however, of taking my daughter to soccer practice and games every week when she was little. The grass they played on was always watered the night before....and then came the 100 degree plus temperatures. The kids' faces were always so red. Had to watch them carefully for heat exhaustion. Remember lots of water for the kids and you too!

I guess I am doing "orchestra camp" ... I am doing the summer workshop for adults, playing chamber music in a quartet and sextet during the month of July emoticon

I had a great time at band camp! Only went once, though...

I went to one at the International Peace Gardens on the border between Manitoba and North Dakota. There were students and instructors from all over the world, and ooohhhh, some of the European boys... emoticon

Is it too incredibly pathetic to admit that my best memory was of Sir James Galway teaching me to play a riff on his golden flute? (And no, I've tried several times, and there is just no way to explain the situation in any way that doesn't sound like *that*...) emoticon

Afraid of a colonoscopy? Believe me - they are much less frightening than surgery and chemotherapy.

Colonoscopies allow polyps to be removed before they can become cancer, or let cancers be found before they are too widespread. If you are 50 or older, or have any symptoms, please don't let fear stop you from covering your butt.

Get checked!

My two daughters are in their high school marching band and band camp for them is a few weeks away and already they're chirping about stories of what they did last year and whatnot....

MY band camp (I'm the drum line guy) starts this Tuesday and though its a three day mini-camp (8a to 12p) it's still drudge having to stand in the sun all freakin' day & sweat. PROFUSELY!!!

So, any band camp stories from YOUR past?
