I was never in to the smart phones but caved and got an iPhone 4s a year and a half ago and I love it. Our carrier has moderate plans which cover all phones on the plan, instead of paying for data per phone.

I technically have a smart phone but I've made it dumb because I don't subscribe to a data plan and have texting blocked so it's still just a phone. Verizon forced us to get new phones when we renewed our contract but I refuse to give my phone all the power so it can only call no matter what it wants to do!

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

I have a smartphone and don't pay outrageous prices. It costs me $40 a month for unlimited text, unlimited data, and 1200 talk min. I use Virgin Mobile and no contract and paid $99 for my HTC EVO.

I use it for talk, text, GPS, internet, phone, social media, Netflix, etc.

Cheers,

We have moved, and during packing, found our old Nokia, nice size, and it worked better than the 5 yr old Samsung we have had, I don't text, just use it for emergency or on a big trip to let people know where we are. I'm not a doctor or something important, so don't have anything worth saying every 6 min. to somebody.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

My cell phone is 10 years old and is a Samsung Flip Phone! All it does is call people and record messages....it is so old I just tell people I don't have a cell phone....I only have it for when I am somewhere and my DH and DS are at home.

My phone costs me 7.50 a month from Tesco. I get 250 minutes, 5,000 texts and, theoretically, can also get Internet. However, the Internet is so slow and inefficient it's not worth having but, like others, I don't need to be connected all the time. I've got a fantastic deal on a phone that works, takes photos, could act as an MP3 player if I bothered to load it up - and no-one would ever want to bother to steal it! I'm more than happy with that.

All I use my cell phone for is phone calls, I don't even do texting. I don't need to be connected to the internet 24/7. My desktop computer meets all my needs for anything I have to do online.

I love the new Smart phones. We usually update our phones as our plan allows, every 2 or 3 years. It always takes me awhile to get used to a new phone, but once I am, I always wonder how I lived without some of the new features.

When I got my present phone, I was so frustrated with it -- I began referring to it as a "Smart phone for a stupid person!"

I have an old Samsung Solstice circa 2008/9 I believe it is lol. I don't need internet or a smart phone really. I have a laptop, book reader & music player its enough. My parents have Smart Phones (Samsung Galaxy & iPhone 4) but I don't want to bother with them yet. As long as I can make calls, text, have pictures to show my hair dresser and see my calendar, world clock, stopwatch, tip calculator, and the like I'm all good for now.

I haven't upgraded from my 2006 Nokia yet. After reading these posts I may wait a while longer. I pay only for minutes used at 10 cents a minute and no monthly fee. Since I only use it when traveling the cost is very reasonable, less than $100 a year. One of my sons has a fabulous smart phone that takes incredible pictures. He uses it to save money when traveling by finding great hotel and restaurant deals on line.

I am a generally considered a techy-geeky type, and I have a Ph.D. in a technology-related field. However, I have a "dumb" phone. I did have a Droid in the past but have decided that I do not need to pay for an additional data/internet plan. I do like this convenience at times, but I work from home, and even when I'm not at home, I often have access to wireless Internet. I still have my Droid phone, but it is not activated as a phone. I can use all the applications if I am withing a wireless internet range.

I would rather not pay all that extra money every month for something (the data plan) that I don't need very often when I'm out and about. I also have an iPad and an Android tablet so when I do have wireless Internet access, I have all the same advantages to internet apps that anyone with a smart phone has. My husband has the same phone I do. It is a Samsung we got for $20 each, refurbished. They have a slide out keyboard and work great as a phone or for texting. They have a camera but it is not a good camera. I use my other gadgets or an actual camera if I want decent pictures!

My mobile phone (also a Nokia) is so old it doesn't even have a camera - and it seems to me that these days that almost puts it into the antique class! I also buy prepaid credit and spend very little; the last time I bought credit was about 4 months ago when there was a deal on, buy 20 euros of credit and receive 10 euros free. But I have used public call boxes (up until I was about 25 years old, I am 56 this year) where you had to ring up an exchange and ask an operator for the number you wanted. I have to confess that I am not really even sure what a smart phone is!

As for me, I'd rather stick to my handy dandy Nokia instead of spend oodles of money on a one of those new smartphones. Because in Malaysia, if you buy a smartphone, they practically force you to take a data plan, with mostly 4G Internet these days!

My phone is kinda in between, it has a touch screen but it's not a smartphone. No Wifi or full internet capacity. I'd rather stick to my current phone because I only spend RM30 per month on prepaid credit. If I switch to a smartphone I'd be spending probably between RM50-RM80 onwards per month, depending on usage.

So though my phone may have it's little problems (I dropped it a few times!); I'd rather stick to it because I don't believe in spending so much per month when I already have a PC and a tab. My tab doesn't even have a sim card! I don't believe you need to be so connected every minute of the day.
