I know its part of the servers job...but it is not necessary to repeatedly ask.."How's everything?"
18%...or more if they leave us alone for 5 mins.

20%, more if the service is awesome, but NEVER less. That is their only source of income, what do you expect them to afford when you can only leave 5$ on 50$, and you shouldnt be out anyway if you cant afford it.

Usually 20%. When I was a child a tip was a reward for good service, these days its become mandatory. Perhaps restaurants should have to pay their staff decent wages, so they don't have to rely on tips so much.

I tip anywhere from 10 to 20%. Obviously 10% is for really poor service and 20 for good to great service. I don't really like the tipping system we have in the US. For instance, I can get GREAT service going to a "greasy spoon" for a cheap breakfast. My bill might be $5 lets say. Tip the waitress(waiter) a buck. Go out for expensive dinner, get crappy service and I'm expected to pay a tip that's based on the amount of money I spend. Just because the food is more expensive doesn't mean the service is better.

Once I went out on Thanksgiving Day. And gave the server a 50% tip

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Even though I have reached goal. I still don't know everything about weight loss.

My standard is 20%. However it can range from that for good service to much less for bad service. I rarely leave nothing because I want them to know that I am a tipper, when I receive service that deserves to be tipped.

15%-25% I usually tip. I prefer to give generous but poor service demands I tip lower and great service means I tip higher~

Depends (mostly) on the service.
I recognize that staffers in these types of jobs earn minimal wages... so I go carefully if I feel I need to deliver a negative message. For poor service, I still leave 10%. If I'm really annoyed, I'll leave a note with the skimpy tip, telling the server what dissatisfied me, and that I'd have offered more if I'd been treated better. For average service, I usually leave 15%. For really attentive service, I'll leave 20% or sometimes more, depending upon how they treated me.
I rarely tip at all in buffet style restaurants, unless the servers do actually tend the table, other than to just refill a drink.
I have, rarely, tipped the kitchen staff specifically when they do something special for me. For example: I used to work nights. My husband worked days. Sometimes we'd meet at a local mom-n-pop shop for a meal... and I always wanted dinner (the end of my day, you know) while he wanted breakfast, naturally. I had to beg for a dinner menu, and then whine pitifully to the server about my strange schedule... she said (dubiously) that she'd see if they'd cook something from the dinner menu for me at breakfast-time. They did, to my joy, and I sent a tip back in thanks. They got so they recognized us; we'd automatically get one dinner and one breakfast menu... and never another quibble from the kitchen, who I continued to trickle little tips back to. It wasn't much, but it encouraged them, and I'm sure it was enough out-of-the-ordinary that they had no ill will about it.
In the same vein, I've tipped a few steakhouses to NOT wreck a nice piece of meat with a lot of rubs or grill spices. They can't do anything about it if their meat comes in ready to just toss on the fire (a nice way to know if they're *really* cutting in-house and not using pre-processed products!), but if they really are doing their own cutting and cooking, I will thank them financially to let me actually taste the meat.

I'm very annoyed with restaurants which automatically append "tips" to the bill... sort of defeats the purpose, IMO. They shouldn't be calling those "tips" -- it's a service charge. I also would prefer that tips don't go into a general pool to be redistributed to all servers. That's not fair to the ones who go that extra mile, and teaches nothing to those who just bumble along.

I always tip 15-20% of my bill. If I can afford to eat out, then the cost of a tip shouldn't be a factor. If I can't afford to give a decent tip, then I don't eat out. I worked as a waitress to put myself through college and it was hard and sometimes demeaning work for little pay and even less thanks.

15-20%. I always tip at least a little bit but have withheld the majority of the tip when the service has been poor.

20% or more if the service is good. If not 0-15% - If the issue is food coming out of the kitchen, it is not always the servers fault. You can tell a conscientious server from a bad one. And servers do not get paid minimum wage and make most of their money on tips.

I have been known to not tip at all based on the service. Waiters are paid by the company for their time ... though below minimum wage ... I pay for customer service.

I have also been known to leave a big, big tip based on the waiter's attitude, service and experience.

Depends on how well the service was......if it was good I take the tax and double it making around 15%. If poor or non existence then nothing.

Depends totally on the service. I've tipped 25-30% (or higher sometimes) when the service was fantastic, and I've also left nothing and spoke with the manager about it before I left. I also speak with the manager when I've had really good service. I often care for folks with disabilities and had a server who not only took the time to listen to the person order their own food (which took a long time since he has CP and is a slow talker not to mention hard to understand for strangers), but she crouched down since he couldn't put his head up to look at her. I left her 50% and took the time to tell the manager how great she was and how much it meant that she did it. We've been back to that restaurant several times and various servers have done similar things. Turns out after I called the manager called out the server with the compliment and asked her to train the staff on how to handle disabilities. Turns out she has a sibling with a disability, although I don't know what specifically. I found this out when a friend went to work there.

Tip 10% for good service, 20% for great service and 30% for excellent service. For bad service it will depend where I am. If it is my first and last time in the restaurant and the service was horrible I have been know to leave $.01. This is to let them know I did not forget the tip and how I felt about the service I received. Fortunately I have not done this often.
