Cooking really relaxes me. I love moving around our large kitchen after sitting at a desk all day. I also love to work in the garden, and yes, sitting to read the paper, watch tv. etc.

I watch TV, but my hands are always busy with crafts or sewing. It's amazing what you can accomplish just be doing a few stitches a day. Pick a project you enjoy doing and set aside some relax time to do it each evening. Some ideas:

Read and learn something new.
Read a romance novel.
Take up drawing or painting.
Embroider.
Cross stitch.
Crochet or knit something -- learn and make everyone scarves for Christmas (easy level).
Sudoko Puzzles.
Jigsaw Puzzles.
Write in a journal about your thoughts or happenings in your day.
Quilt (this is my favorite) -- make small wall hangings for gifts or yourself.
Plan your next day's meals.
Meditate for 1/2 hour.
Close your eyes and put the headphones on and listen to music.
Learn another language.
Take an on-line course.
Take a course at your local community college.
Take up and learn a new hobby like leather craft, stained glass, pottery.
Make new jewelry with inexpensive Good Will jewelry or beads from the craft store.
Hand-write some letters to friends (wow, won't they be surprised).
Walk or exercise.
Clean a tiny portion of a cabinet or drawer or a corner of the room.
Redecorate or repaint a wall.
Research something on the internet that you know nothing about.

There's a great big world out there with endless things to learn about and things to do. The sky is the limit. There's no reason to be bored. Make a pact with yourself that whatever you choose to do, it will be without snacks or foods involved.

What always worked best for me was heading to the swimming pool. It is such a different environment, the dis-connect from work stress was amazing. A good workout, followed by a nice shower...and I felt like I was starting a new day! (especially in the summer when it was still light outside--lol!)

I have several:
First, I walk or bike to work, 1.5 miles. If I walk, I listen to music on the way home (1/2 hr). If I bike, I just enjoy the 10 minute ride home while riding in the bike lanes (YAY!)
OR I come home, flop on the couch with one of my three cats & read for half hour or so; just enough to decompress.
OR I go for a walk with my friend/duplex neighbor or sometimes by myself.
OR I get online & get on SparkPeople or read my Spark emails.
I've only lived in my duplex since Nov., so one of these days I'm going to grab a book & go read in the hammock out back. ;)

I work in a pharmacy & it can be very stressful. I started walking for an hour right after work,not a lazy hazy walk. I start out slow with my ear buds on walking to the up beat music & before I know it I am going off to a good steady pace.When I am done I am tired & sweaty I come home take a long cool shower, then make a smoothie out of yogurt,frozen fruit, & water. I then do a house hold chore then I sit in my recliner on the computer,doing research in History which I so love, or reading a good book or here on Sparks.

It use to be that I would relax after a busy day mindlessly eating late into the night. I would fill my cravings both physical and emotional with chocolates, junk food and anything that sounded good even if I was not hungry.

Now, I am looking for new ways to relax after a busy and stressful day. And, to replace the mindless eating with healthy activities and hobbies.

Any ideas?
