I haven't even started thinking about Christmas yet but I know a few people who start shopping early in the year and spread the cost. Its not a bad idea.

I was in Hobby Lobby the other night and they had their Christmas décor in stock for the most part. I figure Michael's, JoAnn and other craft stores are pretty much the same. I think craft stores figure the crafty types will appreciate that so they get a jump on their preparations.
I'd say if you find a good idea for a present for someone & you can afford it go for it~

I was at a store yesterday and had an idea for some Christmas presents. So I bought the start of some things.

Actually, it's quite calming to figure out gifts this far in advance!

No, it is not weird. I just bought a Christmas present for a nephew the other day. It makes it far less painful money-wise to spread it out, plus, no last-minute insanity at the stores.

For organized people - no. For me - yes. It seems my kid's tastes and favorites change frequently, I'd forget I bought it, or my kids would find it with that much lead time. Nope, I start shopping in October for Christmas.

What this power is I cannot say; all I know is that it exists and it becomes available only when a man is in that state of mind in which he knows exactly what he wants and is fully determined not to quit until he finds it.

I make a list - check it twice (ha) and start shopping right after the holiday. I like having things organized and stashed in the closet ready to go. For me I tend to spend less because I DO NOT leave the list. Not gonna lie I've been tempted to.

I wish I could do it but that would mean having to know who you're buying for and what types of things they need/want. I think you run the risk of spending more than you plan because you start buying things now, stocking them away, and then you see other things you want to get, and you buy those, and then it comes the shopping season and you buy more things and before long you have spent way more than you would have if you waited until the last minute.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

I shop all year long and buy the gift when I find the exact item for each person. The summer sales are great for early shopping also. I think I actually spend more this way though because I get in the spirit and buy more at Christmas.

It's not weird but it's too early for me. I would end up giving the gift to the person early and still needing a gift at Christmas.

It is absolutely not weird to start Christmas shopping now! In fact, it is smart!

My Christmas shopping begins on December 26-27 with the early after-Christmas sales. I pick up decorations, gift wrap, ribbon, and sometimes a few gifts.
Many gifts are purchased in January/February with the winter sales. The rest are gathered during the year as I see things at discounted prices for people I know can use them. Yesterday (June 18,2013) I purchased 2 dozen Yankee candles at 50-75% off for Christmas decor but mostly gifts. Normally costing $110, my purchase was under $50. Wow!

I put away Christmas decor on about January 5, when I start the bulk of my Christmas shopping.

Canning is in September, and this is part of my Christmas gifting. I add bread, salmon, cookies and oranges to plates to make lovely food gifts for anyone who has it all! Everyone needs food!

I use an Excel Spreadsheet to keep track. (This idea came from an article in Real Simple magazine.) All recipients are listed down the left column. The headings of rows are as follows:
gift idea - source - regular price - sale price - % discount- purchased yet? -- where stored --wrapped --- shipped/delivered date

If you shop early, you MUST keep track of what you get for who, and where you store the gifts. Otherwise I would forget where I put it! We send out about 70 gifts per year and I would be totally lost without my spreadsheet to keep track.

On Black Friday I pull out the spreadsheet and lay out all the gifts and wrap them. It takes almost all day. By Friday night, I know who I have left out and then scheme what to purchase for them, or start ordering if I know what to get. My gift wrapping, shipping, deliveries are usually all done by Dec. 15, leaving me time to bake cookies and decorate the house. By that time almost all of the gift wrap and ribbons can be put away for the year!

How does anyone else manage Christmas if they don't start early, and plan ahead? I get about 30- 50% discounts on 90% of my gift wrap, decor, and gifts all combined due to this method. I started shopping early about 35 years ago. I wonder why my mom didn't do it!

I start Christmas shopping in January usually. If I see cool nifty things that just seem like a perfect gift for someone I buy it and hold onto it for Christmas. I'm usually done by about September.

It's not weird at all. I buy things all year if I see a good deal and know it is something someone would like. It's nice to get it all out of the way so when the Christmas season gets here you can enjoy it and not have to put up with all the crowds.

It's not too early. I normally wait until Black Friday - my favorite holiday that gives me an excuse to get up before dawn and shop all day! I know it's not a real holiday.

This year, I'm going to start getting the gift cards in October because those are always last minute and tend to take up a bunch of money at one time.
It's always so stressful anymore - shopping is the least of it for me!

It's easier to budget if shopping is spread out over time. Also, if you see the perfect gift for someone, get it then; avoid the stress of last minute shopping.

It's much easier on the budget to spread it out over the year than leave it all to December. I definitely shop year round.

"Getting through trials doesn't reveal our strength. (No, the trials do a pretty good job of that.) Getting through trials reveals God's grace and produces our character. So yes, get up. If God allows, get up to fight the good fight. But as you wipe the dust off your back, don't pat."

I can't do it. I have a really hard time keeping secrets, so I'd never be able to keep the stuff hidden until December!

Not weird at all. I think a lot of people do that.

Resolved in 2014 to remain below 120!
