I Love Blizzards! I treat myself Once a Month to DQ and count the calories in my plan for the day.

My daughter works at DQ and occasionally bring home mini's of whatever the blizzard of the month is for our family. I will say the s'mores blizzard is one of my favorites but I can't even finish a mini. They're all too rich for my taste. Usually after a bite or two my son or my husband finishes it for me.

A child-size cone is 170 calories. That is totally worth it to me - plus it's built in portion control. I can't have ice cream at home or I won't stop eating until it's gone. We have a DQ close by and we go and get cones and sit outside. It's a fun summer treat. Sure, I WANT a large oreo blizzard, lol, but the cones are satisfying.

As soon as I saw this post, I had to look up my cheesequake blizzard. I saw their advertisement to put your favorite blizzard in a waffle cone last month. Mine is 600 calories. I told my boyfriend that I will have to get one of those. He says thats not good for losing weight. I told him that I can have one this summer. Just told my boss tonight that when I reach my weight goal(3lbs.to go) we are going to DQ. She did not object.

I have learned to really appreciate small treats.
I like small cone at McDonalds.
One scoop of ice cream in a cup.
Or sugar free, true low or no fat frozen yogurt with fresh fruit or nuts.

When you think about it, a blizzard is soft serve and candy/cake. So the calories are kind of expected...


I like a soft serve - Habit Burger uses real ice cream, and I no longer get a cone. I don;t really like the cone and it 150 or so calories. I'd rather have the ice cream! :) So it's about 150 calories.

Adding - some places it's called a dairy dessert. I'd rather have less air - give me real ice cream!

This is one reason I don't go to Dairy Queen, besides it's on the other side of town and not such a good town. I could never go and order one of the healthier options. That would be my intention, but then my evil twin would take over and order the S'mores Brownie Blizzard.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Well, I have nothing new to add. Never have gone back to DQ; it (like so many other fast-food places that I once thought were indispensible) has moved to my permanent "really not worth it/not as good as you think it's gonna be" list.

Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

I'm not a calorie-counter... but wow - check the carbs on those things. That's my whole day's allotment in one fell swoop.

I will *rarely* get a kids' size something, a cone maybe. Ditto for the kids' size Frosty™ at Wendy's™. But that's maybe one time a month. Sometimes not even that. And then I have to cut the other stuff for the day... awww, it's good, but it's just not really worth it!

DQ is easy for me to avoid because of the high calorie content and the price you pay for bad food. But that can go for most any fast-food places where it is hard to eat well...but it can be done.

so I had to look it up after reading this thread and I was actually expecting much worse calorie wise for a medium M&M blizzard.


while it is for sure not something I can have every day, It is something I can fit in as an occasional treat for sure

All the so called "secrets of success"will not work ... unless you do.

DQ is a rare treat for us. I went with my daughter yesterday and had a medium strawberry cheesequake blizzard. I remember medium blizzards being SO much bigger in size and so much cheaper too!!! I know that they are so full of empty calories but every once in a blue moon it is such a great treat.

I know they're bad. And I know there's more delicious options of equal or less calories.
But, I'm doing a triathlon next month (almost a standard or Olympic length, not the Iron Man kind), and I've been cycling thought a list of treats I'm going to have.
Ice cold Coca Cola is top of the list. I've had very little of this in the last year.
And for some reason, DQ M&M Blizzard is on the list. Not because I crave them. I could have any other ice cream options that are far superior. And I've had some. I just would never eat a DQ blizzard these days, unless I'd just completed a triathlon. Sure, I might have a smaller delicious ice cream (Ted Drew's!!!!!!...I live in STL). But I'd never 'waste' a rare treat on something like a DQ Blizzard. But, I think I'm gonna this one time.

I love Blizzards as a sometime treat. We usually order the Large size . Since I enjoy them only a few times a year, don't care about the calories! Most of the time, I'll work one into my plan a few times a year.

I too, like DQ, especially the Strawberry Cheesecake Blizzard, however they are a rare treat for me... and when I do have one I go for the smallest size and do not feel guilty about enjoying it.. nor do I feel guilty if I end up throwing part of it away, if I get my FILL... which happens more times than not...

It was in the 90's on Sunday so we took my daughter to DQ. I would rather have frozen yogurt, but hubby enjoys his blizzards. I got a small dipped cone and had a few bites of the blizzard. I was full and it didn't kill my day! I crave food in the summer as much as I do in the winter!
Those s'mores look tempting, but not with that calorie count! yikes.

Welllllll I went to DQ for the first time in many, many months. Had half a banana split. 265 calories and

... was it delicious? delectable? everything I ever wanted from an ice cream treat? all that I remembered it to be?

no.

...was it at least tasty enough to be "worth the calories"?

no.

...well, surely it was better than a half-cup of store-bought ice cream.

no.

... well, wouldn't I feel deprived if I never ate at DQ again?

no.

Sigh. All this Good Eating has made me so very picky when it comes to what I'm willing to blow my calories on. Scratch DQ off my list of "things I miss" because now I know, i wasn't missing anything very exciting at all.......!

Yeah, that's a lot of calories. Like others say, it's good to check out what you get prior to going. OR, substitute yogurt with nuts and fruits added in for way fewer calories.

Keep a sense of humor. Remember, laughing burns calories too!

Laugh until it hurts! It's one of the few things in life that's still free!!

I couldn't believe it when I looked up DQ information last year and it did change what I order there after DS soccer games. I go for the small soft serve sundae with the thin choc. syrup as it has 250 calories and I still get to participate in our family tradition when my son scores at soccer.

Or you could move down here-- 111 miles one-way to the nearest DQ! But since there are real restaurants in that town, I never go to DQ. I can get ice cream in the general store close to me if I really want it.

Some of their frozen novelties aren't bad... the Dilly Bar, the ice cream sandwich, and the fudge bar (the latter only having 50 calories!!!). But... somehow, the point of going to DQ is to get them to assemble it for you.... in which case, a small ice cream sundae isn't bad. Whenever I got (which is not too often - so far I have not gone even once in 2013, but... summer is coming), I get the strawberry sundae. Just checked - it's under 300 cal. And "enough" that I feel properly DQ'd.

When I go there I plan ahead. We tried the smores blizzard but we split it 4 ways so we could all have a little try without going overboard. I'm a fan of the items that are lower in calories such as the starkiss bars.

So crazy!! I definitely look at the nutrition of those before I go and plan accordingly. As a PP said, I'm one to rather go out and get it once than have it in the house. the BF and I had DQ about a month ago and haven't had it since then. Our typical frozen indulgence is frozen yogurt.

yowzers....thankfully, I am not a fan of ice cream most days. But, I do like the idea of making some frozen yogurt. I am gonna have to try that out. I bought a pint of plain yogurt, and I can't seem to get it to taste good. I may get some sugar free jello or something to add to it and maybe freeze it too.

I bet you could make a "blizzard" at home with frozen yogurt and some toppings in your blender and have more quantity for less calories. Honestly, I don't want to go and have to have all the fuss the rest of the day because I had a teeny blizzard. Sometimes, I want some quantity.

I prefer to stop for an occasional cone, rather than buy ice cream to keep at home. I just like the plain small cone, none of the fancy stuff, and I will do a McDonald's shake or Wendy's Frosty occasionally.

I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve ice cream and DQ is my favorite..

I no longer eat my favorite blizzards anymore.. what I do is I always get the small and keep to the kiddy cones or cup, small hot fudge sundaes or I will split something small with my kids or hubby.

A few bites and I am done, but I will never deprive myself from DQ because it is my favorite

If you really want to try it, split one with someone or just split it with the garbage. I think they sell a size smaller than a mini. Maybe it's the kids size?

Not surprised. You're better off to get a Mcdonald's vanilla soft serve. I think they're only around 150 cals.

When I'm in the mood for something cold I just make my own frozen yogurt with Greek yogurt, instant sugar-free pudding, almond milk and whatever flavouring/toppings I want; peanut butter, fruit, nuts, crumbled candy (like peppermint), oreo cookie crumbs, dark chocolate chips/chunks etc.

I've made mint chocolate (with peppermint extract, crumbled peppermint and chocolate chunks), strawberries or peaches and cream, cookies and cream, tropical, chocolate peanut butter, orange creamsicle, key lime and coconut, caramel and pumpkin pie. They run between 100-150 cals (and make a huge bowl) have virtually no fat or contain healthy fats when I add nuts/nut butter, low in carbs and are high in protein.

My family used to just get the soft serve. We'd by a quart of it. They don't sell it that way anymore...at least not around here. The calories aren't terrible in the plain soft serve, but these days I'd be unlikely to eat it because of the high fructose corn syrup and GMOs.

I just looked up the nutrition facts for Dairy Queen's S'more Blizzard and let me tell ya, I'll never get to try one because the MINI Size has 420 calories!! Crazy right?!?!
