Pinterest is another great source for ideas and patterns.

My name is Shari; I have been a Sparker since July 2006, and living with Stage IV breast cancer since 2007.

There are a ton of free patterns available online. It's just a matter of finding a project that interests you. I love the idea of a lot of the patterns, but unfortunately I tend to have a hard time following them. I'm trying to teach myself how to read the patterns and make what I'm working on actually look like the pattern.

Hi There!
My name is BJ,
Seems we have a lot in common. I love to crochet also. and my tag line also is
I can do all things through Christ.
I am just getting started again and need to really make an effort to follow through.
My last project was making scrubbies and dishcloths for everyone at work. My fingers were raw by the time I got done, I made over 80 of them and 40 dishcloths.
I'm taking a break now, waiting for another project to do.

With Christ all things are possible.

My hobby is quilting. I go in phases of lots of sewing to none. when I'm sewing I have no time for snacks. It definitely helps to keep your hands busy which keeps your mind busy as well.

I knit and crochet both. I taught myself both. It does keep you busy and happy. I do most of mine in the winter. During the summer there is to much to do in the yard and garden. Be careful though! You don't want to sit to long. Do some exercise in between. You could make some leg warmers for exercise class in the winter time.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through CHRIST which strengtheneth me.

I am teaching myself to crochet also. I mainly do it in the Fall and in the Wintertime. On Youtube.com they have lessons on how to crochet. Also, try googling free crochet patterns. Hope that this helps you.

I like to do something even while I watch tv. I always have a book or magazine on my lap; in winter some kind of handiwork. I think it helps me. Another thing that helps at times is having a nice mug of hot tea by my side.for sipping.

I crochet, I knit and I sew. If I find a pattern I like and it involves stitches I'm not familiar with, I just type in "how do I ...." and I can find the answer easily. That way, no pattern is beyond possible. It definitely keeps the snacking under control. Who wants nasty dirty food prints on their beautiful projects?

I find if I do cross stitch at night, I don't snack because I don't want to put it down, time flies, and I don't want to get my project dirty with sticky fingers so I end up not eating anything after dinner.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

My current motto is "crochet away the pain". I've been dealing with some health issues and have been spending a lot of time waiting in Dr.s offices, so I bring along my crochet to work on and also do it in the evening to get my mind of things and keep me from snacking too. Check out Ravelry.com. There are a tonne of free patterns, motifs and tutorials to try. This website alone is an excellent snacking distractor!!!

I love to crochet, and it does keep my hands busy so I don't snack. I like projects that don't involve very complicated stitches. Check out You Tube, they have several very helpful tutorials on how to crochet and how do different stitches.

I also enjoy using my Knifty Knitter looms, it is very easy to make hats, scarves, etc. using them. I have made adults hats to donate to chemo patients, and infant hats to donate to our local hospital.

I'm still working on my lace shawl but I'm afraid I procrastinate way too much! Sigh! I wonder when I can finish! It's motif work. Very repetitive!

I've been knitting Sachet Scarves. Takes about 2 hours to do one and costs about 5.00.

Time passes either way! I choose to look back one day and be happy I took charge of my mouth instead of looking in the mirror and wishing I had!

I know what you mean....I keep myself busy with quilting and other sewing projects. It's a great time-consuming way to keep yourself from eating and other things.

Keep at it. My mother-in-law has made many beautiful crocheted afghans, and I will try to find one particular one and send you the pattern. It may take me a couple of days, but I will keep your post on my NEW list.

Patti

Maybe try new stitch patterns and as complex of a pattern as you can handle. It's good to keep the mind from wandering to help keep thought from drifting towards food.

Sure, why not? I prefer knitting to crochet, but the idea is the same.

I also like to knit when I am having trouble concentrating. It helps me to focus for some odd reason.

Not such a dumb question. I don't crochet so I cannot help you but I bead. Just this weekend I started a new project after a few months of not beading. I am amazed at how much I snacked before.

You may want to try a craft forum on another site or go to you local library. They may have some "how to" books.
