Wow! What a great idea! My husband and I live for vacation so this would be highly motivating to us. Thanks for a great tip.

All I have to do is look at my TreadClimber and think of the cost and guilt takes over and the next thing you know, I'm on it. Plus it was a gift from my husband. Can't let him down.

I keep a spreadsheet & log everything I do. I try to increase monthly my cardio, time in the gym and miles. I am always wanting to see the time and distance increase.

It may sound silly but I've got a sheet of paper hanging on the wall in front of my elliptical and I keep track of my exercise minutes that way. It keeps me accountable and it's nice to have a visual record of my accomplishments :)

I also reward myself every 6-8 weeks, usually with a trip or something special like that.

Honestly, at this point in my fitness journey, I don't have to be motivated or even want to do it some days. I just do it.

I have a goal to run some serious races. ( Niagara International Marathon, Winter 100, and the Ironman) just thinking about achieving them will usually get me going. If it doesn't I am to sick to work out and should honor that before I do damage.

I just get up and do it! I am finding that first thing in the morning is the best! Like this morning I did a mile of hiking (got too hot) then came home and did my normal 3 mile walking with Leslie Sansone! And I want to keep going!!!!!

I've gotten into the habit of going to the gym right after work to burn off both calories and residual anxiety. I have a lot of issues with anxiety in general, but working out really helps me get it under control. Now I feel horrible when I don't work out! emoticon

I signed up for SparkCoach a few weeks ago, and it has made all the difference in how I view diet and exercise. For me, it's all about a new *lifestyle*! I am LOVING being on SparkCoach, and I"m learning so much! emoticon (Honestly, no one is paying me to say this, hahaha!) Also, as exercise is becoming habitual, I now look forward to my daily workout, and the great feeling it gives me. And the results I'm seeing on the scale sure don't hurt, either! emoticon

I motivate myself to work out by thinking about, and remembering, the benefits of exercise. I have had a list in my bedroom for the past 30 years with reasons to get up, get going, get my workout done, and get it over with. In general, if it is not completed by around 7 AM each day, it is not going to happen.

The list is long, and has gotten longer as I have learned of the benefits of exercise for my heart, lungs, kidneys and more. Other posts have been written about motivation, and I have listed them in the past in these posts so I'll skip that step of writing for now.

What motivates you? Keep that in mind when you head out to get your workout completed.

To get my husband motivated, I dreamed up a "Rowing to New Orleans" scheme. We both use an ergonomic rower (Concept 2) down in the basement. It's about 1,100 miles from our house to New Orleans. We log our mileage (both rower and pedometer), and when we get to 1,100 miles--we're packing our bags! He jumps on the rowing machine every morning, and so do I!! It has been a huge motivator. After New Orleans, he wants to start logging miles so we can go to Jackson, Wyoming.

I look back on how consistent I've been and how much hard work I've already invested in my fitness. I don't want to have to start back at the beginning of that process again. If I exercise right away in the morning I feel better about myself and make better decisions throughout the whole day...

Don't know about the weather where others live, but in my neck of the woods we are in the middle of a nasty heat wave with oppressive humidity. Finding the motivation is hard right now - BUT I am trying to push myself forward because I really want to see the scale move when I weigh in on Tuesday

I just get up in the morning, put on the workout gear and go out for a walk and come back in and do Yogilates or dance. I feel quite good after working out so that is my motivation~.

I have simply grown tired of my clothes cleaning. and I'm not going up a size! I am the cause of and the only 1 who can control the clothes squeezing a little bit less. and some days I just don't want to get out there and do it but as the weeks pass I can't complain when they aren't so tight. I don't really rely on a gym buddy I just kind of get out there make myself do it. As for working inside of the gym to each his own. Classes were fun and I do miss the UV sauna lol but outside is free.

Ways to motivate myself to workout...reading the encouragement on Spark people. Another huge motivator that came to light was seeing a friend whom I haven't seen in a long while. She has a sedentary lifestyle and now needs a wheelchair to get around. Although I periodically need a cane for assistance. I want to keep and improve the health I do have.

I think about how I feel after a workout is finished. There are a few outstanding workouts that I have never forgotten the feel of. Like finishing my first 5k, or a particularly hard FIT class. I go back and remember how great I felt at the end of those workouts, and that motivates me to go after that feeling again.

I like sparkpeople's advice: just try to take 10% off your body weight and then 10% off of that and so on. It's these smaller easier goals that motivate me to workout.

Right now I just want to break 150 and I am so close...so I will work like crazy to make that happen! My lifestyle includes the workout habit, and I need that in my life to be stronger. You know, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

Currently, my motivation is having to wear a close fitting dress to Smart Girl Summit in less than a month! Also, it's become a habit. I have, for the first time in my life, stuck to working out 5-6 days a week for an entire MONTH. That's a huge deal to me. And I know how hard it is for me to get back into running once I've taken more than just a couple days break from it. May as well be consistent! Ah, the scale is also motivation :)

I try to go to the gym first thing in the morning or at least early in the day when motivation is highest. I'm thankful for the ability to exercise and thrilled with the results.

I work out first thing in the morning with my neighbor. I can't skip if she's knocking on my door at 5 am! Plus we recently started a new DVD program that uses shorter workouts, which helps because I can say "it's just a few more minutes!" lol LOVE it!

I say to myself, 'What? You can't even get up and move for 60 minutes? That's it, 60 minutes, then you're done.' I think of the length of time, not the exertion.
