Thanks so much for telling us about StandApp!

One of my goals is to do 50 lunges throughout the day, just so I get up from my desk now and then. But I keep forgetting. :-\ Hopefully this app will help me out!

ANARIE: I love that suggestion and its cheap too!! Who couldn't use more storage for paper work?? LOL

Patti, you could just use it as a sit down app too, just reverse hahah! I think you will like it!

I had to do 5 minutes of wall squats today and I couldn't finish the full 5 minutes of it,
My abs and legs are burnin lolol

Sounds like a neat app. I rarely sit during the day, so I think I need a Sit Down app instead (LOL). The mini exercise sessions sound like they would be fun though. I'll check it out for sure. Thanks.

MLAN613: yes, I am as well, and this app lets you do bitty work outs throughout the day at your desk which helps...

As for the android I am not sure, but I don't see why it would not or have something equivalent

I recently switched from working an in-person information desk where I stood up all day to working online at home, and I gained 3 pounds in 6 weeks from sitting at a desk all day. (Although in fairness I also had a broken toe and wasn't exercising.) I read a fellow Spark member's blog about building a stand-up desk and thought it sounded great, but I live 100 miles from the nearest lumberyard/full-service hardware store, and I don't have any constructions skills anyway.

So I thought about it... And I put a sturdy cardboard file box on my desk and set my laptop on it. Voila! Standing desk! Cost? $1.20.

This would work in pretty much any office, it seems to me. If you have keyboard and monitor rather than a laptop, you can fill a large file box with books or rarely-needed files to make it sturdy enough to hold the monitor. If someone objects about the appearance, you can cover the boxes with contact paper, wallpaper scraps, or upholstery remnants to match the cubicle decor.

I used to pick up a folder and walk away from my desk.
When I worked in a big building, I would walk around the cubicles to the far side and then return. When I worked in a place with stairs, I would use the stairs and then return. Walking around with a folder, people automatically think you are going to a meeting or that it is work related...so you get less questions.

Sounds like a great idea. Unfortunately, my desk job is a horrible call center job meaning I am strapped to my phone unless I am on break or in a meeting. I can barely run to the bathroom off break, much less move around when an app tells me to. So, I just try and move when I can, which means on break.

I don't have a smart phone. I wonder if I can get it on my Android Tablet.

I have a deadly job... I sit and work at the computer ALL DAY..

Getting up and moving is non existant for me and getting any movement during the day is hard..I do get to my gym classes and I am active at night, but I needed to find more ways to move during the day...

What I love about it, it gives you a choice to choose your time to stand up .. then it asks you to perform certain things like walking, stretching, or some sort of video exercise..it asks you to remain standing to perform before sitting again and its only 5 minutes of doing something! its great!!! I feel better after a few days of using it!

I have wanted to share this app I have found and I LOVE IT... its called standapp and its free!

Thought I would share it because I know how hard to get those extra steps in during the day is..

What other ways are you moving if you have a strickt sit down desk (cubical job) while your at work?
