Funny you should mention that....I tried some today and absolutely hated it! I prefer a cold glass of skim milk.

I have tried it and loved it. I made my moms cake with coconut milk instead of regular milk. It gave it an extra punch.

I don't believe it is a low fat alternative to milk. Just a preference.

The canned coconut milk is my favorite for anything, baking or otherwise. It's creamy and delicious

I've tried the Silk coconut milk by accident (it's right next to the almond milk I always buy)... it wasn't horrible, but I much prefer the almond milk

Just used the canned version in a marinade to cook cod with tonight! Excellent result.... (Coconut milk 13.5 oz, Lime Juice 2T, Olive oil 2T; salt, pepper---use half to marinate cod 30 min in refrig; drain; bake 20 min at 400 Reduce other half for sauce.)

Previously have used it in Tropical Flavored drinks---Oh Wow with Pineapple & Rum!!

Would never consider drinking it straight though; nor buy the Half Gallon "watered down" version to replace regular milk.

I have and really like the one that is pineapple flavored. It is best cold. I also use coconut milk creamer in my coffee every day.

I live in Fiji as a volunteer so coconut water and coconut milk are free... just grab your machete and hack one open. I think the water is delicious and the milk is great in certain foods... here its used to top boiled fish. Take the coconut milk and cook it with chilies, onions, ginger, and garlic until it thickens a bit, pour over your fish and its pretty great!

Coconut water is nasty. Coconut milk is so yum yum! I put it in my smoothies and it just so delish. I also drink a small amount straight to take my vitamins. Is it worth it, YES! I was a big fan of Almond Milk too! If you like coconut you will probably like it. If you don't, then don't bother.

why is it even a question?

Yes. we've tried all the non-cow milks with the exception of goats milk. I like switching them all up so that we take an "all things are ok in moderation" approach to all of these different kinds of milks. I can't bring myself to try goats milk though-totally psychological- I keep imagining it will taste like feta. My daughter can't drink cows milk or eat any sort of cheese made from cows milk. If it were just the milk that were the problem for her I would say that she's severely lactose intolerant but since the cheese also bothers her I'm beginning to wonder if its more than just a lactase problem. It's almost like she can't tolerate the protein in cows milk. All we know is when she avoids all cow dairy, she's just fine.

I live in the Caribbean so coconut milk is like a staple for us here. It's delicious and at one point was considered unhealthy because of the high fat content. It's wonderful to know that it is so widely used now. I usually take a dry coconut and blend up with some water and use it in my meals if the recipe calls for it. I noticed someone said that they use it in their cereal, I suppose this is a processed form, mine comes straight from the coconut and not store bought.

My grocery store has just started carrying it in "milk cartons" in with the regular cows milk -- and soy milk -- and almond milk. They seemed packaged to attract the person looking for something to drink, not cook with.

I haven't tried any of it yet, but I am curious. I wish it came in containers less than 1/2 gallon. I think I would end up throwing half of it out even if I liked it!

I was never a huge fan of anything coconut, but as long as it wasn't overpowering, I could eat things with coconut in them.

****WARNING - skip over the rest of this post if you are squeamish!****
then, many years ago at Christmas, my mom cut her hand REALLY bad prying coconut out of the shell. We took her to the ER for stitches (she had to have them inside and out). She was telling me at the time she cut herself to never use a sharp knife to do this. The docs said using a butter knife may have done even more damage to her hand. Anytime I see coconut, I remember all that blood and hearing my mom in pain...YUK. No way.

mom only buys bags of frozen shredded coconut now.

I am from the Carribean so coconuts and coconut water are kind of a staple drink, and it is yummy. I use the milk for baking and cooking, but I hear it's good to use for cereal. I have to give it a try.

I can't stand anything coconut, UNLESS it is dried, dessicated coconut. BUT that doesn't mean that others don't or won't like it. We all have individual tastes. They only way you will know if you will like it, is to try it!

Be sure you are buying 'regular' coconut milk...not the kind cut with other crap.

Both coconut milk and coconut water are not really for 'drinking'...like you don't go to the fridge for a nice cool glass of coconut milk...like a PP said it is best for mixing drinks. Both are excellent when making smoothies as it eliminates the need for a sweetner and or yogurt. Also the flavor will penetrate to allow you to mix not only fruit but sneak in veggies as well ie. A splash of coconut water or coconut milk, a 1-2 inch piece of English (seedless) cucumber (unpeeled), a small handfull of spinach leaves (or a frozen nugget of spinach) and what ever fruit you have on the go...bananas, berries, peaches, etc...mix all in a blender until smooth and enjoy!

Coconut water.... *shudder*.... no, not even beachside in a tropical land from a coconut that has been freshly harvested and chopped open for me.... NASTY stuff, i have tried it 3x to give it a fair shake, as new things sometimes taste weird on Try #1 but grow on you.... sorry coconut water, you will never grow on me.

Coconut "milk" - anything you might drink as a beverage is bound to be sweetened and calorific. I would actually avoid, unless you were mixing it into some sort of fancy tropical-drink-with-paper-parasol concoction for a treat.

The other kind of coconut milk, the stuff that comes in a soup can - that's for cooking with. You can make a most excellent creamy curry with it, or a rich flavourful steamed rice... but it isn't anything you'd actually drink.

Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

I keep wondering if this product is worth trying? -- I know I did NOT like coconut water!

PS I do NOT have any known allergies to dairy, and we buy whole milk at our house.
