not really. Some guys look okay but it's not something I'd want my guy to do.

I'm ok with a man having one ear pierced. I don't like the ear gauging though.

I also had my left ear pierced back in the '80s, haven't worn an earring in about 30 years but I don't find anything wrong with it. As for some of these new expanded earlobes, and various other things its the individuals choice. I wonder though what are they gonna tell their grandchildren when the tats and piercings are all wrinkled and faded.

I love pierced ears on men - I think it looks great. If by "guaged" you mean where someone stretches their earlobe out, I think that's probably an acquired taste - but apart from wondering where these people work, I don't really Judge them. Tattoos I LOVE.

I don't care for those huge holes in any body's ears, but simple piercing...no biggie. Tattoos can look nice too if done correctly and not just a blob of ink. Tattooing is not for me personally but I like them on others.

Not a fan of piercings on a guy. Just not my thing. I don;t even like tattoos! I don't care if people have them.

Earrings are a cultural thing for girls in my family. I broke the tradition and did not get my daughter's ears pierced. My thought was it's her body, she can make the choice if she wants to scar her body when she is an adult. By the time middle school came and all her friend were into earrings I told her she could get them pierced. She said no, it wasn't something she wanted. I'm glad I left the choice up to her to have the right to control her body.

So that being said, do it if it makes you happy. Don't do it for anyone else.

When dh was younger he had his ear, nose eyebrow and lip pierced. It was before we met. By the time we met he wasn't wearing anything in any of those holes and hasn't for over the last 14 years. I like the way he looks without any piercings. It would be odd to see him wearing an earring or something after so long.

I feel that excessive piercings in the face or body- or large stretched holes in the ears- are not attractive to me in general. One or two earrings are okay for me.

I like clean cut, no tattoos, no gages and no piercings on my guys.

I have [No] tattoos myself. And I won't ever get one. I don't care for them.

I like them okay. Subtle ones. Studs. Doesn't matter to me if it's one ear or both, either.
I don't mind tattoos too much, so long as they are also subtle, and can be covered by clothing for business or certain social venues. I don't like them (on either gender) where they're always in your face.

1. It's spelled "gauge," not gaged.
2. It's a noun . Therefore, "gauged" doesn't work either.
3. Gauge isn't even the proper terminology. The word you're looking for is "stretched." A gauge is the size of the jewelry being put in the ears.

I love all body modifications. Piercings, tattoos, implants, you name it, I'm in love. I'd encourage my partner to get some, but they don't like needles.

Piercings, tattoos, whatever. As is so often talked about on these message boards is that it is the person, not the package that is important. Who cares about the wrapping. Honestly as a group of people here to loose weight, there are an awful lot of judgements being passed about how someone looks.

Yeah, the main part (eagle & serpent) will be on my upper left part of my chest and the wing will arch over my shoulder and down my upper arm.

The other option is to just have it on my upper arm where my shoulder ball is.....BIG!

there was a very straight-laced conservative salesman at my last job (now he's a GM for that co). He swore that the spot on his earlobe was a freckle. I still don't believe him.

and one of his favorite bands is Cowboy Mouth. Hmmm...not quite the suit and tie he had to pretend to be.

Garret, in your line of work you could get away with the ear piercing.

You should compromise and get a tattoo. You're never too old for a tat. My grandmother got her first and only one for 80th birthday.

Okay, after much consideration I have decided NOT to wear an earring again. In my opinion as a middle-aged man I have to consider things that may make me appear like I am trying recapture my youth which I have already done with my health.

If my gf wouldn't have brought it up I never would have even reconsidered it.

My 42 year old husband has both ears pierced which no longer symbolizes anything like it once did back in the 80's. It looks good on him and it would look odd for him to not be wearing earrings since I've always known him with both ears pierced. Some men (say, my dad, for example lol) would not look good pierced. I do hate the gaging style now but to each his own. I'd agree with your girlfriend and say go ahead and get repierced but consider getting both done this time. If you don't like it, you can always let it grow back.

Pierced ears on guys...I don't dislike or like it (feel neutral).

Gaged ears, on the other hand...I feel like gagging when I see them. Like someone else said, I just picture how those ears would look without anything in them...giant floppy (swinging in a gentle breeze), stretchy, gross rings of flesh with a giant hole in the middle. I feel semi-nauseated just from thinking about it.

Tattoos...like someone else said, tastes change over time and I think I'd get tired of seeing the same old thing on my skin day in and day out for life. I mean, I like to change my bedspread and couch cushions once in a while, so I doubt I'd like a tattoo that I could never change. I also agree that most of them don't look good. They don't bother me when people have them (unless they have a lot), but I wouldn't want one.

Honestly, I think the gaged look is absolutely dreadful...especially when they get tired of it and take it out. I also don't really care for regular piercings...just because it is too 80s for me. I like a guy who is clean cut without all the extra piercings...but I do like tattoos.

That said, it really is a personal decision, if a guy wants to do it...it isn't my choice. I am a woman with tattoos, and I am sure that many people think that is bad looking. So, there is my ambiguous answer.

a pierced ear is not a deal breaker. On some guys, it's fine.

gaged? Don't care for it much, but if Brandon Boyd is calling... emoticon
I don't usually care much for tats, either (although I do admire some of the artwork). But again, if it's Brandon Boyd ((swoon))

ETA - now, me getting a tat? No way. NEVER. I am deathly (as in possibly passing out) afraid of needles. The last voluntary needle was my 2nd ear piercing.

I'm not for or against it. On some people it looks kind of dumb, but on others, it looks great. As for gaged ear, I don't mind the smaller gages, but the larger ones are kind of weird. And they look really gross when there is nothing in them.

To the original question, yes I like earrings on guys. It is not a fad. I am a teacher and piercings are very popular. Still, I would not do it unless you, yourself want it.

As for tattoos, I love them. I love talking to people with body art. We all have a story. As to the cleanliness of the tattoo places (I haven't heard the word parlor in decades), I researched mine before going and even asked friends with tats for a name of a great artist. He did both my tattoos, both of which I got in my 40s after years of deciding what to get.

When my students say they want to get them, I sit down with them about what and why. Most want to honor someone who passed, a parent or grandparent. I think it is a beautiful sentiment. Body art is ART. I always warn them about where they get them done or who does it. Since it is a permanent body change, it is up to the person to treat it like any other cosmetic procedure.

I have a tattoo in between my shoulder blades (well a little higher) that is a triskele. It traces back to both my Irish and English heritage. My other tattoo is on a leg that was crushed in a car accident and rebuilt. It says "vida," the Spanish word for life. I struggled with the how the scars on that leg looked until I got it. That tattoo released me from a lot of pain, knowing I was a survivor. More people ask about the tat than my scars now.

Then again, art is in the eye of a beholder. Some of us will disagree on what is art and that is okay. I just have a problem with people who judge others who have piercings or tattoos. I just don't ever want to be that person.

Diane

There are so many incredibly bad and ugly tattoos - and they do not get better with age. I personally know someone who ultimately died from hepatitis from a tattoo (of course, the risk is incredibly low - but have you seen some of the tattoo parlors?).

I think that well over 90% of the ones I see in public are just not attractive to me. It seems to be incredibly difficult to have a very nice tattoo done that will be good for the rest of your life. Again, if you want one, awesome! But I personally find them less than appealing.

And facial piercings, ear gauges, or other similar visible body modifications seem to me to limit the career opportunities of the wearer.

sorry GLITTER ....but I'm one of those people who isn't fond of Tatoos
IMHO Most of them look like bad comic book illustrations and tastes change.
What appeals to someone in their 20s ...looks a little childish in their 30s and 40s...
Some people have so many their body resembles a graffiti wall.

But I will admit that some are extremely interesting.

Very few men can pull it off just like very few men can pull off a button down shirt with a little hair on their chest showing with a necklace, just a chain though, no bling, no cross etc.

Accentuates, you mean?

I don't understand why tattoos BOTHER people. It's not the same as it was back in the day, where only circus freaks, military, and prisoners and gang members had tattoos. EVERYONE is getting them, including people with lucrative careers, like lawyers, doctors, judges, etc. If it's not on you, why does it matter? To look at me, can you tell that I have tattoos, other than the fact that I've told you? No.
I am a Christian.
I am a mother.
I am a housewife, and a darn good one at that.
I'm a homeschooling teacher as of recently.
I have my Associates and I'm working towards my Bachelor's in Human Services and Management.
I have thirteen freaking tattoos and plan on at least two more.
To me, tattoos are art, if they're done well, and skin is just the canvas.

Yes to earrings on men. Nothing jazzy, just diamond studs. Yes to tattoos, not jailhouse tattoos, nicely done tattoos, but not all men can pull it off. Tattoo yourself in a way that extenuates who you are and flatters nice body parts.

I'm out on piercing's and tattoos. In the finance, real estate and oil and gas business it is just very, very rarely done. Further, most of the tattoos I see are simply not really attractive or well done.

Look, if you have a great business deal, I could care less although I'd be really, really skeptical if you had a face tattoo or a face piercing. Discretion seems to me to be the most tasteful course of action.... but to each their own.

I'm not a big fan of piercings and I don't like tattoos and I really don't like what I consider purposeful disfigurement like "gaging" or whatever it is called. I do have pierced ears myself (one in each ear) because I gave in to the idea (at age 32) that a professional woman appears more dressed up with earrings and I could not stand the clip-on type (I tried to wear them).

I can't say I have a strong opinion about men in general wearing simple earring but I'm glad that my man does not have any piercings. This makes him sexier and manlier to me.

I'm not really a fan of ear gauging on anyone... The look just doesn't appeal to me. Maybe because it's too obvious that there are holes in the person's body that aren't naturally occurring. o_O;

But earrings on men are fine and can look good. For a lot of people, piercings are a form of self-expression.

My husband has a pierced lobe, and I thinks it's sexy with the diamond stud I bought him. he doesn't wear the stud when working, however, because it's kind of looked down upon in the field he works. Don't much care for the gaged piercings -- they look irreversible and ugly without the ring in them....wouldn't want to have something like that for life.

Actually I prefer a nice tattoo to a piercing even ears! Gaging -- what is the purpose behind this practice? It is a big practice in Africa but have no idea why North Americans do this.

It seems to be coming back into fashion especially in Asia.
I don't think it looks bad if it is subtle, and I think the style of earring can make one look effeminate or manly, but... whatever.
Personnally, I prefer an earring piercing over piercings in other parts of the body
male or femaie.

My husband has a pierced ear. I'm fond of the bad-boy look with long hair. ;) Well, as long as it's clean and well-kept, anyway. I don't care for the gaged ear look, nor extraneous piercings, but to each their own.

My kids' father has both his ears pierced, and it does not look un-masculine on him AT ALL. Our son, seven, has had his ears pierced since he was 16 months old. I guess it's a cultural thing? I think it looks fantastic on the right people. I think gauging is up to the individual, and I don't care either way. My sister has gauged earlobes.
Then again, I think most body mods are pretty cool. It's up to the individual how they want to decorate their temple.

Then again, I have 13 tattoos, and hope for at least two more.

I am not a fan of the "gaged" ear thing.

A regular single ear piercing on a man wouldn't affect me one way or another.

Multiple piercings on men are not appealing to me but, if I were single, they would not be "deal breakers" in terms of me wanting to date someone.

I like men with longer hair and one ear piercing I find quite attractive! Not that gaged look though and I don't particularly care for body art either.

LOL, you didn't need the disclaimer!

Personally, I think the "gaged" look is horrible with long term disfigurement. All I can picture is what the lobe will look like with it removed. I wonder if they will need plastic surgery to remove inches of lobe?

I'm also not a big fan of men with ear rings, anyone with lots of piercings or tattoos. As a nurse, my thoughts go to infection, scarring and how they look on old, saggy bodies. I just can't move my brain around the hepatitis risk, the pain involved in the process etc.

Having said that, I will add my disclaimer that I don't judge anyone who has decided to make those choices. What you do with your body is your business.

Edited to add: Maybe I should add I was raised in a very strict environment where certain things were just not done! I've moved on in many ways emoticon

I don't really have an opinion...maybe "good for them"? I wouldn't be turned on or off initially by any ear piercings, there are other things I look at first. I'm a female who let my teenage piercings close up because they kept getting infected which was terribly unattractive! I wish it were easier to find attractive clip-ons.

My Sparkpage is set to private, but I'm open to SparkMail!

***********wait!***************

I had my left lobe pierced back in the early 80's and had to stop wearing the earring I wore when I joined the service and I never put it back in.........my gf asked me if I would consider re-opening the piercing and wear earrings again.

I have yet to give her an answer.

I don't like the current popular piercings guys are getting called "Gaged".....just not for me.

What is your opinion of men with pierced/gaged ears? (not your opinion of me personally but men in general)
