My husband when I took sick a lot of men would of run for the hills but he didn't and he takes care of our little family and does things beyond what a husband should do. He works, does the laundry, sometimes soul cook and house cleaner because I'm in so much pain and then takes care of me and our son.
I tell him all the time that this wasn't what he signed up for when we got married and he's just amazing and never complains. When I can do something I do, but if I can't he never says a word and he's made me a beautiful garden for me to enjoy cause he knows I can't go out much. I hit the lottery when I found this man and I tell him everyday just how grateful I am to him.... emoticon

Starting to like the new me!
Waiting for my garden to come to life!

My mom. She was strong, wise, a single mother, honest, caring and so very resilient. She taught me to be a strong, independent woman. Plus she always had an open door to anyone with a hardship.

Both of my parents had countless talents. Both were gifted singers & musicians, story tellers. I performed with them for most of my early life. We were also puppeteers.
Mama & I were also Doll makers & taught dollmaking as well.

My 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Bates, inspired me to want to work in education. She was so caring and kind and helped me when I really needed it and I always wanted to give back and be that person for some other struggling student.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

My Mom, who unfortunately passed away in 2008. She was a feminist way back in the 60s before the word was ever conceived. She was a Certified Public Accountant and wanted to work as such in a junkyard. The owner told her they were looking for a man. She asked him "Why? Just because it's a junk yard?" He said, "Well, there are only men working here and they have a pretty rough tone." My Mom said, "I grew up as one of 13 children, dirt poor on a farm. Of the 13, 7 were brothers. We spoke in rough tones every single day. I can handle it."

He hired her and she worked her way up to being the Vice-President of a very successful company. She wanted to succeed and refused to take No as an answer to anything she really wanted to do. At the same time, she was generally seen as quiet and unassuming (typical CPA, I guess).

She taught me the REAL meaning of being a feminist.

emoticon Mom!

I am inspired by Buddha, Malcolm X, Ernest Hemingway and Tyler Perry all for different reasons! Yes, I do realize these are all men but I seem to be inspired by male figures over female role models of which there are many.

Malcolm X I am inspired by because he had such a hard life when he was growing up and by the time of his death it seems like he had come full circle just about. I reread his autobiography once a year to remind myself that he had it worse than I did when I start pitying myself for anything.
Tyler Perry because he made it through some pretty tough years when he was young with abuse, being poor and being quite the loner. Plus he has lost a significant amount of weight in his life. Granted being Oprah's friend doesn't hurt but I think he'd be successful anyhow. I don't care for a few of his sitcoms because it seems to pander to the lowest common denominator sometimes but some people like his humour, to each his own.
Ernest Hemingway for living life with gusto and strength despite his internal struggles. He inspires me to try and keep writing even if its a struggle.
Buddha because I am inspired to try and achieve that middle state of being instead of extreme one way or the other. Buddhism freed me from "religion" and its falseness. (NO offence intended to anyone just my point-of-view.)

I have made me the person I am today and no one else close to me has really influenced my life which sucks but it is what it is~

My Dad is my hero as he taught me to preserve in the face of adversity; to assume all other drivers have no idea what they are doing; told me not to lick metal in the winter and loved me and believed in me every day that he was alive!

I have a man who lives in my neighborhood in a senior-citizen building. I don't know his name ... or anything about him ... but I refer to him as "my hero." He must be close to 90 years old. He looks really old (and I know old people.)

But I see him out walking in the morning as I drive to work. He walks stiffly, but purposefully around the neighborhood ... all bundled up when it's cold ... and bundled a little when it is not. I didn't see him this winter and worried about him. But I have seen him a couple of times this spring, so I know he survived the winter. I don't see him every day any more.

He is my hero and a source of inspiration for me. It must be really difficult for him to keep doing his morning exercise, but he does it when he can. I wish I knew his story.

There are so many people in my life who have "made me the way I am" if you can call it that. But really, it is life experience that makes you the way you are.

But, I do admire my mom for raising me the way she did. I am so amazed that she was able to raise my sister and I in a Christian environment without any help until I was 5. I am very proud of my mom for all she has done in her life.

I also admire my best friend, Laura, because she has been with the same man for 25 years and she has 4 amazing well adjusted children (if you can still call them that). She has had a major influence in my life for the last several years.

Also, my good friend, Roxann, because she is on fire for God. She is dedicated and devoted to the children in our church. She is an amazing woman and an inspiration to me. She has also had a major influence in my life lately.

Oh Lord, you have searched me and you know me. -Psalm 139:1

I would have to say my grandpa. He survived a war, started a successful business and is one of the smartest people I know. He is also very giving, understanding and works very hard. Even as a retiree, he is active in his community, is constantly learning new things and dedicates his time to the people and hobbies he loves.

For me, the people I am inspired by and admire are too numerous to ever bring it down to one.

I have to comment, though, that I love Rivetpa's answer and that makes me think really that my personal hero is ME, Queen Am120s, the Empress, Monarch & CEO of her own life.

Lol, truly, if I don't feel inspired by myself and love and admire myself, who else will, really?

If I am not inspired by what I do and have done in life, although there have certainly been mistakes and things I have not especially loved, then I ought to work harder and get inspired by ME before I leave this earthly sphere.

There are many people I admire for various reasons, both famous and in my own personal life but I would have to say the person I admire most is my best friend. She works so hard towards her goals, and is incredibly talented, intelligent and compassionate, yet she would never say those things about herself. She always has something thoughtful, composed and intelligent to say about a variety of different subjects. She's so rational, and level-headed whereas I seem prone to flights of fancy and fantastical improbabilities. She never asks for anything, but she's the first person I go to because I can absolutely 100% rely on her to be there for me. She balances that all out with being fun and having excellent taste (from TV shows to music to movies to books to interests to clothes). There's so much I can learn from her.

I'd have to say it's me. I'm my own personal hero. I'm not being selfish - but realistic. I've been through hell and back, I've been stronger than I thought I could be and succeeded where failure looked inevitible. I always manage to save myself from myself and I'm totally comfortable in who I am. I depend on who I see in the mirror, and I believe in myself.

My parents did a wonderful job but they're both long since deceased.
