Speaking as someone who was laid off for nearly ten months, I am THRILLED to be working again.
I understand what it's like to work in a dead end, minimum wage job. It definitely stinks. However, you can do something about it. Start circulating your resume. check your local craigslist for job postings and definitely check this website. www.indeed.com
This is where I found my current position, which I love !
You're quite correct. You don't want to quit a job that's helping to pay the bills. But, it doesn't hurt to put out your resume. It's better to have a job when you're looking for a new one. These days, most companies don't discriminate if you've been laid off. keep in mind that a lot of companies do not like people who up and quit. It makes them wonder if you'll up and quit on them. So, don't quit.
Instead, get your resume out there. Start looking for a better job if you don't like this one. Also, don't alienate your manager. You may need that person as a reference when you do start interviewing. don't burn your bridges just yet, but do be proactive.
