Sooooo......What was I thinking? Not much about the change in the fashion. Just whatever looked good and what my circle of friends were wearing. Then I thought about getting homework done, studying, what was going on.....canteen.....a game to go to.....practice.....
bandstand.....music.....boys.......school......etc.

First video I remember watching was "Take Me On" and the VJ at MuchMusic in Canada was none other than J.D. Roberts who is now an anchorman for a rather prestigious US network and was the White House Correspondent......Now I remember his mullet!

hahahaha don'tcha know.. that is when we were ALL COOL!!!

haha I had to laugh when I read about the zebra pants I LOVED MINE and wore mine until they had holes and were rags hahahaha

I can not think of a generation that was so outspoken with hair and clothes LOL

I had those shoe clogs and I can remember the guys coming up from behind us girls and kicking the heel sending those clogs through the school hallways .. all day long you would see shoes flying down the hall it was hilarous, and then you would see the girls running after it!!

I wore my hair as if it went through a fan and spiked and teased up LOL

I had those leg warmers and of course neon clothes and who can forget those stirrup pants

I loved and still love dog chains. I miss my wide-leg jeans. My kids' father said they made my thighs look five times as big as they actually were-which may be true, but demmit, they were comfortable.
If I were single, my hair would be buzz cut, and multicolored, because I love using hair for expressionism. I do not care that I will be forty in four and a half years.
Forty.

Banana clips, scrunchies, sun in in my hair, hair shaved underneath. tight rolling my acid washed jeans. Jams with my coke shirt. hyper color shirts. bubble skirts and body suits with snappy crotches. clown makeup and the poof. Thankfully I only permed my hair twice but that was enough. dog chains in my head banging years.

I was never really part of the in crowd...so most of the things I didn't do, like big hair and stuff. I did have perms for many years. And I remember looking at pictures where I was wearing gaudy flower bell bottoms. In middle school, I wore the rolled tight pants legs and the multiple socks to look kinda like punky Brewster. Thats about all I think I did

When I was 9 I was obsessed with having a spiral perm. We tried not once, but 2 times. My hair just wouldn't take the perm and would be straight again after a few days. Even now I still can't really curl my hair and have it stick around. Looking back, I'm glad it wouldn't take the perm.

My DAD got a perm in 1980 though. My mom took my brother (then a baby) to see her mother and when she came back, he had a perm.

Oh, and I was also a bit horrified to see that spandex shorts with lace on the bottoms of them are now back in style. I saw my cousin's 11 year old wearing them.

I have never been in the "in crowd" though I tried mildly to not stand out too much so I conformed to some styles like the plaid or flowered bell bottoms and other strange styles that have come and gone, and then come again, some times.

I have never been a smoker, never got involved using drugs, not much of a partier. Food has always been my "drug of choice" which is not any easier to deal with than other substances, as we know.

Even now, I only have one piercing in each ear (got those pierced at age 30). My husband and I are motorcycle riders and all our friends have tattoos so not only is it the fad of our times to get tattoos, but it seems to be a long standing part of biker culture. It does not matter. My husband I don't like tattoos and we won't be getting any.

I have never really done anything outlandish, like getting purple hair, or cutting it really short, or something like that. I guess in reality, I'm actually boring. Ice cream is something that I allow myself and make provisions for including it in my plan. But we could go to the place most notorious for the most exotic flavors and guess what I will order? Vanilla. I love soft vanilla ice cream cones and it probably represents more about me than just a taste preference in ice cream. But another less obvious thing that all this represents about me is that I am not afraid to be different and I don't conform just to conform with what seems to be the "in crowd."

I was born in 1967.

In my third grade picture, I had a shag hair cut and wore a red plaid girl's pants suit, with a white turtle neck.

My Dad was notorious for cutting my bangs when I was a kid. They were very crooked, short on one side or the other.

I had Daisy Dukes as a 10 year old. I thought it was cool. Mom thought otherwise.

In the 80's, we wore leg warmers which were fashionable especially when Flash Dance came out.

Ah yes the big and crunchy 80's hair! I had my several cans of Aqua Net.

Life is not waiting for the storms to pass..it's learning to dance in the rain.

Maybe it was a regional thing? It was 93-94, when I was in 10th grade. They had built in bras, and were skin-tight. Snapped at the crotch.
Are you thinking of snap-away pants??

The 80's: Really great music and really bad fashion: neon, long underwear under jean skirts (my mom has a picture of my sister in that!), acid wash jeans. I also remember pinning my jean bottoms to make them super narrow.

Oh, and aerosol hairspray. Lots and lots of aerosol hairspray. Crunchy, big hair was in.

KJ -- I love your questions. I was born in 1963 and there were varying decades of "what was I thinking moments.

1960s - hot pants my Mom bought and a lovely bowl haircut by my Dad with his home barber kits -- he was in the Navy and cut my brothers' hair and decided to try his hand a women's fashion when my Mom was at work one night.....What was he thinkin'

1970s- bad home perms, lots of plaid and polyester, overweight and yet my Mom bought me an "American Gothic" cartoon shirt with Porky Pig as the guy holding the pitch fork...NIIIIICE. Oh wait it gets better.....remember the jeans TOUGH SKINS....indestructible to the point where the Sears commercial showed them using the material to make a huge trampoline base.....no cool LEVIS for me.....just the HUSKY JEANS. Yet the mid to late 70's were better...grew 6 inches, lost the baby fat but my Mom got into crocheted vests made from Granny Squares....

1980s- University, drinking, pink leather pants and skirts, SPIRAL Perm, and just really big big hair....In love with alternative music at the time -- including that yummy Mick Hucknell from Simply Red and the lead singer of INXS - Michael Hutchins.

1985-1989 Let's get physical -- taught step aerobics, wore headbands, thong workout suits over the catsuit workout gear......

Okay the 90's on I got a grip, went heavily into athletics with my hubby but ditched the bad clothes.....the rest is history......

Now -- Training for my second Ironman 70.3 (Half Ironman) at 50......WHAT THE HECK AM I THINKIN......seems to go full circle.

Never wore the micro mini whatever. I don't think I ever intentionally wore my shirts backwards. I DID wear body suits and tight shorts, a net shirt with a black bra with tight shorts. I dressed like a slvt. *sigh*

Ditto on the sun in to lighten my hair after a perm.
Ditto on banana clips and scrunchies.
Ditto on the micro mini skirts.

I also had the big 80's sprayed bangs. I took years to learn less is more. Also super strength isn't really needed.

I've worn shirts backwards in High School as that was the new thing to do.
I pinned the bottom of all my jeans in High School.

I'm sure there are more I haven't thought of lol!

the convenience store roses would have been cuter if he didn't act like a jerk and then "make up to me" by buying me a rose and never apologizing. LOL

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I think y'all should know I am CURRENTLY wearing a snuggie. So it's possible that the what the heck WERE we thinking should be changed to what the heck AM I thinking? LOL

I had a mullet in the 80's (I was in elementary school). The front was permed. The back was straight, down to my waist.

I wore blue and white rubberbands on my braces to match my school colors, because I was a cheerleader.

Sally Jessy Raphael glasses.

When my sister and I were in junior high, we recorded ourselves singing on this super old cassette player of my grandma's, and then we made her take pictures of us staring dramatically in the distance. We were going to send them out to someone-- who? I don't know-- so that we would get discovered and become famous. Alas that this was before youtube and American Idol.

I dated a guy whose idea of being romantic was to buy me a rose from the convenience store on the corner.

I have owned several denim jumpers in my time.

Well I have a few of those moments.

In high school, I didn't wear makeup only lip gloss. Then when I got in college I had friends that said you need to wear makeup and they introduced me to anything and everything. If I didn't have enough on they would tell me to put more on. Before I knew it I was looking like a clown. I have an old drivers license still when I was wearing all that heavy makeup. Today it makes me laugh.

I was a huge fan of Madonna and loved to try to copy her look. Right down to the lace skirts, gloves, headbands, boots, leggings etc. You name it I would try to find it and wear it. I have a few old pics dressed like this. Again, today I laugh.

Exactly! What was I thinking!

Cheers,

FitGlamGirl

Well, I was born in 1977, but...here goes.
Starting when I was 11, I wore the peacock-from-hell bangs which were popular. I went to a private school from 3-8th grade and we were limited as to what we could wear. When I first started wearing makeup, I wore eyeshadow to match my clothes, rather than my brown eyes. That is my grandmother's fault. She gave me a HUGE collection of eye-shadow.
I had a New Kids on the Block fanny pack.
Oh. I started dying my hair when I was 12...with Sun-in...after I had a perm. It is miracle that I did not go bald.
I went through a few phases in high school as I struggled for an identity. Metal head when I was in ninth grade. In tenth grade, I was emo before emo was a thing. It was like a combo of grunge and goth, with the black eye shadow, black nail polish, black hair. Then I pretended to be Puerto Rican for a little while. Shut up. DON'T JUDGE ME! I was a true Puerto Fakin'. Really embarrassing.
After high school, I accidentally shaved my head. When I got my hair back about 1.5 years later, I had it green for a little while. I think...I think my hair was black when I met my kids' father when I was 20, and I started to level out.
