Absolutely I lost 110 lbs and I'm the healthiest I've ever been. I feel re-born feeling better looking better. Slow and steady weight loss combined with heavy cardio and weight training will allow you to gain confidence you want to become a better you. Good job! Keep it up

I'm 29, female and have lost 100+lbs. I have a lot of loose skin, but I still look pretty good - I like where I'm at. Will I ever look like many of the fitness models? Minus major surgery no (and even then, it's no guarantee, and it's not what I want anyway). Are you going to be able to look like Joe Manganiello? Probably not, but most dudes would be hard pressed to achieve that anyhow. But I bet you could look pretty good if you put the work in.

Am I considering a tummy tuck and skin removal on my arms? Sure. I just got near goal at the end of last year and officially hit goal at the end of January. I'm continuing my fitness journey, and I'll see where I'm at in a year or so. Skin shrinking can take time, but based on what I have seen over my long several stage journey over the last 10 years is that my genetics don't seem to allow for skin shrinkage.

Are you doing any strength training at all? If by "good body," you mean the male standard of being ripped, you're going to have to ST and ST hard, in addition to cardio. I made pretty big gains both in terms of body fat % and overall weight loss when I started lifting more and lifting fairly heavy. I just joined a gym after doing a lot of research and lifting on my own for about a year and consulting with a friend in the field, and I see a lot of horrible form and gentlemen wasting their time lifting weights that are way too light. If you aren't seeing gains in muscle and are working out, I'd recommend getting a trainer to develop a program for you.

As others have said, your age is on your side, and I think your skin will be more elastic and conform to your new size a bit better than if you were much older. Even so, if you end up with a lot of loose skin, I would start saving for possible surgery at some point. While I don't disagree with those who suggest you should focus more on the health aspect of your accomplishment and how much better you look, even if you don't have the perfect body, I do understand not wanting a huge amount of extra skin, especially at your age. Few people, men or women are going to have model perfect bodies so hopefully that is not your goal. If you just want to look "good" and it turns out a bit of surgery is needed to feel you have achieved that, I don't think it is unrealistic or wrong to consider that option.

Congratulations on your success!

It is absolutely possible to have a good body after obesity, especially if you define "good body" as "healthy body."

Yes. I loved how I looked and felt when I was at my goal weight. I did require making good food choices and exercise. Now if my body would just stop refusing to get back there...

Congratulations on the 100 lb loss! I'm sure you look great after losing the weight. Exercise, especially weight training, in addition to nutritional counseling can likely improve your body further. It does take time; please be patient with yourself.

I think that it is definitely possible! However, losing weight slowly is key! I actually came across this quote as I was making up my motivational collage...

Rapid, unhealthy weight loss leads to muscle loss and loose, flabby skin...SLOW, HEALTHY weight loss leads to fat loss and a firmed body and sexy definition

I'm hoping that I will have a body to be proud of, no matter what weight that may end up to be. I'm in my 40's, so I don't expect to look like I'm in my teens's; however, if it happens to work out like that...LOL...just kidding, I'll be happy to have accomplished my goals! I wish I had started this journey years ago...and I hope YOU are the one that proves it can be done! Let us know and congrats on your success so far!

How can you NOT have a good body after obesity? Even if you have extra skin here and there on the outside, what's going on within your body is sooooooo much healther than being strangled and packed with all that extra fat! I haven't lost enough weight at this point to know how the outside is going to respond, but already I feel better --- and that is good!

Yes it is and I would suggest that you go and see a Sports Nutritionist as they will determine your BMR Base Metobolic Rate as to what your caloric intake should be and if you eat by their percentages of Carb, Protein and Fat, you will tone up as your body uses the fuel more efficiently.....strength training is huge as well.

Last year on New Zealand's Got Talent there was a guy who did 'ballet' type dancing for his shot at fame. He was really FANTASTIC and man, the build on him - he was muscular and VERY toned. HE WAS RIPPED!!! When he was being interviewed after his performance he said he had been very overweight - around your beginning weight. He hadn't had surgery t achieve his ripped physique. He had only been dancing 2-3 years. Soooo, in response to your question, yes, it IS possible to have a good body again. Make sure that you are getting in a good mix of exercise.

IF, however, your body doesn't lose it's excess skin, and it still bothers you, then perhaps you may be able to consider surgery to help with the emotional aspect of your journey. I know a few members on here who have done that, and they look really good. With that excess skin removal comes a further weight-loss, altho' I don't mean to imply that it should be done for weight-loss.

Kris

HOMEBOY9,

It depends on what you consider a "good" body. If you're comparing yourself to images you see in a magazine, that good body may not be attainable. We are our own worst critics. Flaws we see in ourselves no on else sees. Women, in particular, are hard on their bodies. I've seen many many posts from women asking how to get a flat stomach after weight loss. How do I get rid of these bat wings ? Will I ever look good ?

The fact is, there are no easy answers to that question. However, there is one important thing you should understand and it's this,"losing weight to improve your health is NEVER a waste !"

You may never have the body of your dreams and that doesn't make you a failure. Instead of worrying about how your body will look, focus on what your body CAN do since losing the weight. Because there are lots of things we all don't like about our bodies. Some things can be changed with a good diet and exercise. Some things can even be changed with cosmetic surgery. However, some things, we have to learn to live with. And that's the reality of losing weight.

Congratulations on losing 100+ pounds !!! You're going to live a longer more productive life because of that.

emoticon
