Who knows what you're eating unintentionally. Many food products are imported from China or
Mexico where food processing standards are not enforced or don't exist.

We eat insects all the time. They're in ground grains, they fly into our food (even if we don't see them).... would I eat one intentionally? well. I don't know.

As someone said here a bit ago, perhaps properly prepared and with other people also eating them, perhaps. Doesn't sound like a thing I'd be eager to do, but circumstances might make a difference.

Foods tend to be cultural. Some won't eat lamb. Others won't eat goat. Some won't eat cattle, or pigs. They eat horses in France and other European countries, I think... but I wouldn't like to do that either. Dog or cat is considered edible in some places. And then there's the whole gamut of weird sea creatures. I won't eat anything with "sucker feet" or its whole body (no squid or octopus or frogs or oysters or clams...) either. I certainly don't want to eat some animal's last meal along with it.

We're too fussy, I think.
And I'm right in there!

...the problem with people these days is
they've forgotten we're really just animals ...
(attributation forgotten)

We did not create the web of life; we are but a strand in it.
~attributed to Chief Seattle

We don't have souls. We ARE souls. We have bodies.

I have eaten a grasshopper on purpose... once... while travelling in southern Mexico - they are called "Chapulines" and are deep fried and seasoned.... taste mostly like the seasoning (garlic, chili, or whatever) with a "grassy" finish.

It wasn't bad, i would eat one again without gagging but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Deep frying makes anything edible. I don't think i could ever do a "squishy" type of insect like a worm or larvae *shudder*

Actually, we do eat some and their larvae/ eggs embedded in fruits and veggies bought at farm markets and some stores, impossible to wash Everything off. Knowingly eating them, no.

Only if my life depended on it, you know, like if my plane crashed in the Amazon, or I was on a deserted island that kind of thing, but not if I was at the night market in Thailand or anywhere else where grasshoppers, crickets, scorpions, etc. are on kebabs I'm pretty sure I would pass. Although, that is a green alternative to getting rid of the insects chomping on my vegetable garden...hmmmm.

Maybe.

Next time you're browsing the supermarket in search of the makings of that night's dinner, pause a moment to read the ingredients labels of your favorite red-colored ingestibles and cosmetics. Chances are, you'll discover a notation for cochineal, carmine, or carminic acid, pigments whose origins might surprise and possibly disgust you.

Cochineal and its close cousin carmine (also known as carminic acid) are derived from the crushed carcasses of a particular South and Central American insect. These popular colorants, which today are used to impart a deep red shade to fruit juices, gelatins, candies, shampoos, and more, come from the female Dactylopius coccus, an insect that inhabits a type of cactus known as Opuntia.
