Yes, just bought a chevy spark. It was less than some used cars I was looking at and gets much better gas mileage than the window sticker indicated. I am very pleased with this car.

Weight is the result of what you have been doing for the past week.

Yes, never thought I would buy a new car. Always bought used because of the loss of value when you drive it off the lost. However, because of the crazy cash for clunkers program perfectly good cars were smashed up leaving many fewer used cars on the market. So two years ago when we were car shopping we found used cars almost as much new cars so we went with a new Honda fit base model.

Yes and it lasted 13 years. Subaru Wagon...loved it! But now we only buy used cars as they are way cheaper to buy than new! Also with all the leased cars we have tons of really nice used cars to purchase from the end of their 2 year leases.

I've bought both--nice used cars & lease returns & brand-new! With the Costco car-buying program, I bought a new RAV4 for just a few hundred over factory....VERY reasonable! :)

I had two new ones....my last one, that I am currently driving, is from Carmax...it is a great car, had only 8,000 miles when I bought it and the price was sooo much better compared to a brand new one....

Several. I don't drive much now. I have added a little less than 4000 miles since last July when I bought my latest car. A KIA and I love it. Used to always drive big cars but no more.

If you are talking like new new, right off the lot and no previous owners, then no never, too expensive and We can't afford the insurance nor the tags every year,

However we did just buy a 2007 Kia Sorento and I LOVE IT

This only had 40k miles on it and we got a really good deal on it, and only one owner.

Usually, my ex have brought junkers for $100-200 dollars and my favorite junker was a subaru and it was literally a Flintstones car... just like a water ride in the rain because we had holes to where we could see the ground as you rode in it.. had to cover up in garbage bags, but it was my best running car. LOL I have owned my ford explorer now for 7years and I was also the second owner on that.
It is going on 195,000 miles now.

I agree as well as far as having our kids buy a new car straight out, I am trying to have my son do the same thing. I think for him to start off with a newer car and pay that off he will be financially better and more stable.

yes but it really ain't worth it. Having said that, I told our daughter, who is considering it, that everyone should buy a brand new one once in their life if they can. She is in a real good place financially right now and now would be a good time for her to do this. Once married and children come - well - life happens and this opportunity might not happen again for a long long time

I say no to used car lots, they fix any piece of garbage to look nice. The one car I bought from a car lot was the worst car we had. I always buy from a private party. I look at them very well, look at how their house is, look at yards, makes sure they are clean, and the type to keep up on things. I never buy from they young. I always bought from middle age people that seem to be really responsible. I make sure I ask if receipts have been filed showing the car has been taken care of properly etc. My experiences have been great. We do not take our car to shops other then for tires, and miner repairs my husband does. We hadn't had any big repairs needed as we sell car before on last leg, and we have just been lucky that nothing major has happened inbetween. We are like the middle man of the cars, we have them between new and old.

Yes we bought our last car brand new. First time ever. We did some research and for this particular type of car it was a better deal to buy new than old, because it holds its value. However, we had to save for quite some time to ensure our payments wouldn't bee so high, given it was new.

I've bought new once, and overall it was a really good experience....we got a good price by waiting until the end of the model year and using a family's member's "green sheet" price. Chrysler was giving a really good warranty at the time, so we got several rather expensive repairs done for only the $50 deductible before the warranty ran out, including the transmission---good that it was covered, but it really shouldn't have conked out that soon. I had planned on keeping it much longer than I did, but it developed a major engine problem that was common with my make and model, so we traded it in on a truck for the hubby, and I got a used one for cash. It's only been a year and it's already been in the shop twice. I hope this isn't a trend, because we can only have one car payment at a time.

I think used cars are getting ridiculously expensive, at least around here. You can't get anything decent for less than $8,000 or $9,000, and some of them are even over blue book value...what's up with that?

I believe most people get more for their money by buying used cars, but I have bought three new ones in my life (I'm 54). The first one was a Dodge Omni, with my ex-husband. I drove it for a very long time, and kept that car after we divorced. I hit a deer with it and that was the main thing that ruined the car.

I bought a new Saturn in 1998 for about $13,000 (saved up and paid cash, no payments). After about 8 years, I gave it to one of my daughters and bought a 2004 Saturn, again for about $13,000 but this new one had more for the money than the previous one (automatic windows, door locks, and cruise control). It also had a bit more power and still gets great gas mileage. I love my little car, and I have two car seats in the back for my grandkids and they fit just fine! It has about 104,000 miles on it and I'm still driving it with no plan to change for a long time. If and when I buy another car, it will probably be new but unfortunately, they don't make Saturns any more. :(

I usually buy new. I consider them more reliable. I don't want to mess with having to take the car to a mechanic.

I usually buy a one year old car, but this time around I got a new for not much more than the 1 year olds.

twice. The first lasted 5 years, then it seemed to start self-destructing! The one I have now I bought new. It is now 16 years old. In great shape with no major problems, just routine maintenance. it's a Honda. If I ever part with this one, I will buy another Honda. emoticon

I have bought a few new cars and my husband had a few new trucks. I currently drive a car that I bought used and it is starting to give me problems already. It does not even have 100,000 miles on it yet.
I prefer to buy new because I know that the car has not been abused

I have bought new vehicles a few times. I think new and used have their advantages and disadvantages. I currently drive an SUV I bought that was 2 years old. It has been pretty good. I bought it to replace a larger SUV that I bought new that I drove for 9 years. My husband now uses that as a second vehicle.

Yes. We bought used cars when we were young and sold our old cars ourselves. When we hit about 40 we bought only new cars and traded our old cars in on them. We buy a new car about every 10 years and pay for them in a year or less, but we buy inexpensive new cars like Toyotas and Scions.

I would have bought my car used until I realized that for about $1500 more, I could have a brand-spanking new car with a full warranty, in the color I wanted. In my area at least, used car prices are really inflated because people can't get loans for new cars because of bad credit. If you have good credit and stay in your budget, its a buyer's market :D

I should have mentioned I only buy used cars with proof they have been serviced regularly. I noticed many people never attend on keeping their cars after so many years or miles have past, so they are smart and keep all their service receipts and have that to show when they sell the car. My last car we had for 8 years and still was running like a champ, but it would not pass smog as the new laws required that car to have something added to it that would cost anywhere from 1000 to 1500 to have installed. We payed $3000 for it and got 8 years out of it . We sold it to some place like cash for clunkers but was it was called something else, and we got a 1000 for it, it's a program they had going for cars that would not pass smog. We are very choosy and smart in our used car shopping endeavors.

I've never had a brand new car. I'd rather own my car and not have to worry about payments.

I bought used cars for a long time. I got my first new car--a Jeep Grand Cherokee--in 2006. It was a lease. I turned it in early because the back seat wasn't big enough for my kids' car seats and got my second new car--a Chrysler Town & Country--in 2008. It was also a lease, but we bought it when the lease was up. I'm probably getting rid of it this fall or next spring. When I do, I will probably get another new car.

I've only had a brand new car once, and I leased it. I was young and stupid, I would never lease a car again. My current car was purchased used at the Honda dealer, so it was certified and they were great to work with. It only had 16,000 miles on it, so it was nearly new and still had the warranty on it. It's at close to 60,000 miles now (in just over 2 years, eek!) and I still love it. But, I will probably be trading it in soon now that I live in an area that gets snow, I need AWD, this winter has been brutal. Also it's a 2 door so we fill it up pretty good when we go on road trips between the two of us, all our stuff, and the dog. SO drives a big truck so my car is better for gas on long trips. Since he also travels during the week and I have such a long commute, I need a car that is reliable and won't break down on me... so once the miles start getting up there it's time for a new one.

It is by far my largest expense, but I also commute 2 hours a day. So, since I spend that much time in it, I want it to be nice. Haven't decided if the next one will be brand new or used (but still close to new). I don't like buying cars with more than 30,000 miles on them because you don't know how the previous owner took care of them.

I nor hubby ever bought a new car and we probably will never buy a new car. We buy nice used cars from people in our community. When we are ready for a car we start searching craigs list or just drive around looking at parked cars with for sale signs. We keep the cars for about 5-8 years and then sell them before they take a dump on us. We never put a lot of money in a car either, just the basic upkeep and my husband does most of that, if something big starts to show a problem then we go car shopping. We did buy a used car from a dealership once and we will not do that ever again, it was the worst car we ever had. We have had only great experiences other then the car bought at a car lot. We choose this method verses buying new with car payments. We pay cash for our cars and only PLPD in car insurance we save a bundle.
