You can do the stress test without the treadmill. TELL THEM about your condition and they should let you get your heart rate up by floor exercises. I have a bad knee and did the stress test on the treadmill and it popped my knee out. Speak up and insist they raise your heart rate another way. I didn't know I had a choice but afterwards they told me they had other ways. Makes sense - how can they do a stress test on a paraplegic?

I had a knee scope not replacement, but everyone tells me the knee replacement was the best decision they ever made.

I have enjoyed reading these messages. They have given encouragement as well. I fell about fifteen feet two years ago, and broke my left leg in the tibia. Had four surgeries in five months and two years later, all the knee cartilages are gone in the knee. Now I will have the hardware removed, which consist of two plates and eight screws in my knee. Two months after that surgery, I will have a knee replacement, and hoping to be able to walk normally again. I have been swimming, which is some exercise, but cannot walk long distances, or run at all. Thanks for your comments of encouragement, and I am trusting the Lord to bring me through.

ugh, that's crazy they made you do the exercise test like that - i had to do one a few weeks ago and had to stop early because of pain other than my heart as well. If needed they can try doing the text using a drug instead to check on your heart - but wait and see what your dr says. That's great you are getting the knee replacement done! I hope it all goes smoothly and you have a good recovery emoticon

A friend of mine had both knees replaced when she was in her late 40's. She was always VERY thin her entire life to the point of maybe slightly underweight. A childhood friend so I know her weight history. It was the best thing that happened to her. She is now 60, no painful knees and does hot yoga three times a week. Recovery for any surgery takes time but look at the long haul and be grateful you live in an error of great modern medicine.

I've had stress tests only because of family history of heart disease but they can see things quickly and you won't have to be on there long. Do the best you can. Wishing you a successful surgery and recovery.

Try not to worry. The stress test is to make sure your body can handle the surgery. This is a good thing! You want the doctors to be precautious. Also, I am an Occupational Therapy Assistant and I have worked with people after knee surgery. The people who heal the quickest are the ones who prepared by working out beforehand. I agree with Zolette1. Start working out on what you can. You will be up and walking around the next day, but will be sore on that leg. You will be using the arms a lot (and your other leg) to support yourself after the surgery. I understand this can all be a little scary, but everything will work out. You are going to do great and before long you will be moving around so much better.

I feel for ya. I hate going to doc period let alone for surgeries. I have had my share of surgeries and worry did not make them any better. All of mine went well and so will yours. Try relaxing anyway you know how. Maybe a cup of tea with book or movie will relax your mind. Hang in there it will be all over soon with awesome results!

Focus on what you can do, you can use 5 lb weights and work out your upper body for now. You will get through this and you WILL come out on the other side of the surgery able to do more! My mother was just about crippled before her replacement and now she is doing well. It will come.
Blessings,
