It's amazing how much the spices that a previous poster mentioned help. In fact, that's why the herb epazote is in so many Mexican and Central American bean dishes. (If you're into cooking but you can never get Mexican dishes to taste authentic, epazote is probably what's missing. It's hard to find in stores but extremely easy to grow.) Ginger is a huge help, too-- just a little bit, not enough to flavor the dish. That's what I use when I make baked beans. And it is really good with the greens.

The main thing, though, is to sort of ease into increasing your fiber. If you're not used to eating these foods, add a few tablespoons of canned beans to a salad or pasta rather than sitting down to a whole bowl of bean soup, for example.

I'll throw my vote in for Beano.

I also take medication that cause tummy distress, so since I started eating more healthily I have the WORST gas. It's truly horrifying. Beano does help, usually. The biggest trouble I have is that you have to take it before you eat, and I tend to forget.

.. The unwanted vapor comes from sugars and starches not completely digested by enzymes in the small intestine. Once these carbohydrates travel into the large intestine, normal, harmless bacteria make a meal out of them and produce gas in the process. Beano provides a digestive enzyme the body lacks, so take it when you sit down to your meal. Draining canned or soaked beans also helps, as it rids your meal of some of the hard-to-digest carbohydrate.

Also it may be helpful as well as tasty to season your beans with herbs and spices. To reduce flatulence and intestinal symptoms associated with eating beans, cook with herbs and spices such as fennel, anise, turmeric, lemongrass, dill, oregano, rosemary, cilantro, bay leaf, ginger, cinnamon, and cumin. Experience shows that the body gradually adapts to increased bean consumption.

These are two emoticon great foods but gassy. Could lead to public embarrassment. Any cures to offer me.
