I found that the biggest problem was replacing cloths before I had finished my journey. Unless you need to don't.

Altering what you have maybe cheaper than buying new

Have you tried a lower rise in your jeans? Even though there is not a ten inch difference in my waist and hips, I have a little bit of difference. In my pants if the rise is too high the gap is huge.

I like old navy jeans. I also like Lucky Brand on clearance. My favorite pair of jeans is Rock and Republic. I got them on clearance for 10% of the original retail price $26.

You can pick up Lucky Brand jeans at Costco for $24.99. I vote for them. They work well for big butt and smaller waist. I also like Kut from the Kloth jeans. I shop at thrift stores and consignment shops. You have to do some digging, but many times I can find something that fits at a fraction of the cost.

Today I found a pair of really cute Vigoss Studio shorts for $7.99 at the Goodwill. I got an unexpected bonus when I found $19 in the pockets. I guess people forget to empty their pockets before they donate and the Goodwill apparently doesn't check.

Cheers,

I vote for Ralph Lauren classic cut jeans and they have a bit of stretch to them....you can always find them on sale at Macy's for around $50 max.

I like the Gap or old navy. Levis is in a lot of stores JCpenney, kmart, Fred Meyer, Torid has bigger sizes.
I think when you said a clothes line people thought of higher priced places.

You can go to a lower price place like Kohls or Ross or TJ max so on and find name brands.

Even the 2nd hand stores have all sizes and better prices. Be creative and find your hot spot and pay less.
You can go into a high end town and go to the 2nd hand.

Find a place where you can return with no problems. Try your clothes on before leaving.

Good luck!

Another vote for Lucky if they can be found at an acceptable price. My no-waist/no-butt body was there a few weeks ago with my very curvy friend and another women we didn't know who was large in both waist and hips. We all found something that fit and looked decent. Their material is pretty stretchy, that's probably why.

Lee side elastic jeans and pants:

I did order some from the above website, once. It took forever and a day for them to send them. So, you might want to shop for them somewhere else. I think you can get them from JC Penny too.

To be perfectly honest, my butt gets big quick ;). So while I do wear pants that hit at my hip bones or just above, the waistband still gaps. I think a tailor is probably the best solution.

have you tried looking at a lower cut bottoms? in other words, instead of looking for a style that you have to deal with such a disparity, find bottoms that are designed to fit just at or above the hips. this way you just have to fit those parts and the waist issue doesn't come in to play. yes, that does mean being a little more careful of top lengths, but it sounds like that would be easier.

I have no problem finding clothes, but for special occasions I have looked for pant suits or skirt sets and it isn't working. I need a smaller bottom then top, and some places won't let you mix sizes unless sold separately.

Thanks for the link! I just had no idea what a tailor would cost so any kind of price info is useful.

there is an Eddie Bauer outlet (online). If you buy off season, you can get some great deals. And their clothes are very good quality. They changed their various cuts (Vashon was the 'curvy fit' that ALWAYS worked for me; the new one is okay sometimes, but not always).

I'm fairly curvy (Right now I'm at 30" waist and I think around 39-40" hips, so not quite the difference as you, but still a pretty big one), and I have found that Lucky Brand jeans work well for me. My skinny jeans are the Sofia Skinny, and my "regular" jeans are the Charlie Baby Boot. I also like the Lola Boot Cut but they end up being too long, even in the "short" length, so I can only wear them with heels. I buy them at an outlet store to save money, I can usually get 2 pairs for $110-120.

Working on maintaining at 140!

Like I said in my previous post, 'curvy' fit generally means that they decrease the difference between the waistband and the hip area, whereas I'm looking to increase that difference. Eddie Bauer looks like it might be the exception to that rule but I'll have to wait until they have a sale because their prices online are tres expensive.

Modified question: if you have had the waistband on your pants taken in, how much did it cost?

Well, I guess you can try on different brands. I have bigger thighs and skinny ankles and I find boot cut usually works. I can't say that I have a 10" difference but you can maybe find what brand works and then locate that taylor. As for alteration costs, you can probably call around to different ones in your area.

AT is a bit out of my price range but I have tried the 'curvy' fit when they have sales. All they do is increase the waistband...opposite of what I want :S

several clothing mfg have curvy fit. I know Ann Taylor & Eddie Bauer do. Have you tried either of them?

Thanks to years of fencing and genetics, my hips/thighs are relatively chunky compared to my waist (36-26-39). This leads to it being difficult to find pants and skirts that fit in the hips, thighs, and waistband.

Anybody find a clothing line that fits them when you have more than 10" difference between your hips and waist? Or alternatively, how much does is cost to have a tailor alter the waistband?
