I'm Connie and an OE and Food Addict.
I struggle with the sugar thing too, until I wanted a sponsor and she said that in order to work the program I should probably be off processed flour and sugar. I wanted what she had, so I said yes. I've never handed my life over so completely to another person before. I've been clean and abstinent for about 33 days. For me, it was all about surrendering to my higher power. I still have and probably will have for quite some time, tugs to do actions I had rehearsed in the past (the bingeing thing). I do it one day at a time, one moment at a time and one minute at a time, whatever it takes.
As far as what you eat...What you eat is between you and your sponsor and nutritionist. I eat 5 or 6 small meals a day. That is my plan of food abstinence and I am living well with it. My physical and spiritual nature play into all of this, too. I make sure I contact other OA'ers too keep the abstinence going.
