Anything that isn't lifestyle change. Change the way you eat, and be active in any way you choose. THAT alone will improve your life, not some pill in a bottle or starving yourself.

Any method that is not watching what you eat, keeping it balanced and exercising.

I'm not training for a competition. I'm not trying to set a new record. I'm not trying to impress you. I'm saving my life!

Fortunately, I have not tried too many fads. I have used OTC products such as Dexatrim with the full knowledge it would only work with a restricted calorie plan. I had hoped it would curb my appetite and though there is no overwhelming evidence, I guess there is still a claim some of these products can curb appetite, which simply makes it easier to stay on the plan you commit to. And that would be a good thing if they worked, but I can't say I've ever really seen a difference.

There are some non-scam tools that really can be used in combination with determination, to help us stay on our healthy plans. Some of my favorites include having an herbal tea to take the edge off when I'm stressed and feel like going to my old stand-by (rich food or even binge eating) or chewing sugarless gum. Certainly there are no magic products that you let you eat whatever and how much ever you want, without restriction, and still lose weight.

All of the posts below mine and HCG. I just love it when a person comes into a thread and says that if we had really done our research on HCG. That we would be doing it too. Ummmm No! I need more to eat at breakfast than unsweetened coffee and a tablespoon of milk. The only milk that you are allowed to have all day.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Eat what you like and if someone comments, eat them too

I see Herbalife and body wraps being pushed all the time on Instagram and it just seems too good to be true.

the biggest fitness scam ? Easy.. sauna suits. I still can't believe how many people I see who wear them at the gym. they are dangerous and do not promote weight loss.

For diets- any diet that says eat 500 calories a day and requires some type of injection.

No diet pills. they should be banned. period.

Ephedra diet pills. They're illegal but you can find them on the Internet. They cause heart palpitations and can give you a heart attack.

Also suspicious are diet pills that are advertised as helping you lose weight with "no diet or exercise needed." Some people want a quick fix and don't want to do what it takes.

The cleanses, if your body has toxins in it, you are on your way out, having organ shut down, can't believe people still buy that junk and believe it though. Every celeb that comes out with another book should have to give money back to regular people that buy those books, promising their weight and their whole lives will be wonderful, if you just follow their book. And ads where celebs have lost a lot of weight, and, after their contract is over with, you see them on tv again, and they gained weight back, the companies need to be fined or forced to close down for that kind of stuff. I'm 67, and these scams have been going on since at least the 1950's people!!! Still, there are more and more overweight people, not less.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

lol @ MJerfferson...I thought so!!

For me, any diet pill

And for sure: any weight loss "cure" that comes out of the mouth of Dr. Oz. He really makes me shake my head. He is doctor, and he ought to know better...but in the end, ratings equal money....and day after day, people who are desperate to lose weight will tune in to hear his latest "breakthrough discovery".

Those ones you see in online ads at the sides of the screen on certain sites. You know, the ones that are like...

"New berry discovered in South East Asia, able to triple kickstart your metabolism! Eating this one berry helped Jane lose 150 lbs in 3 months! Doctors agree it's a totally beneficial weight loss supplement! Amazing health effects, contains every necessary nutrient!"

You can eat all the "magic supplements" you want, their nutritional value won't do anything if you're not eating a decent diet or exercising at least sometimes. Not to mention "doctors agree". Really? Which doctors agree? How many? Two doctors agree? That's nothing and is insufficient info.

I remember back about 2 yrs. ago when Dr. Oz began his tv program, even my husband watched! The first month, Dr. Oz debunked supplements, and stuff to remove toxins from your body, and over the counter diet pills, rubs, and high minded claims. THEN, he found out his web site and advertisements on his television programs needed the companies that sold those things, so he changed his tune. AND he did, same as his mentor, Oprah, buy interest in the companies that make those products and especially supplements, usually in Canada...........Oprah didn't become a billionaire just from talking, mind you, and Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil both are making dough hand over fist thanks to her help. And the wheel spins round and round, friends. P.T. Barnum was right.

Plan for tomorrow, but enjoy the heck out of today.

Any "plan" a person can't stick with the rest of their life..stay on a so called plan as recommended, lose weight, back to eating the foods you loved and missed-gain back everything plus more! Pills, herbals, teas, and foods and supplements promoted by Dr Oz is now the craze. By the way-gluten free is not a weight loss diet! it can make you Gain!

I don't invest my money into anything other than a gym membership and healthy eating. I do think that many could work, but typically when you follow the program and you go back to before starting the program unfortunately you gain the weight back. It's only a temporary fix.

What you want is long term sustainable results.

What I have found that works is hard work in the gym and sticking to a healthy diet, cutting out fast food, soda's and junk food.

Cheers,

FitGlamGirl

Anytime something says "this is best--do only this" I get suspicious. People think to exercise, you have to be a runner. To be healthy, you have to be a vegetarian. Etc, etc....

There are lots of shades of gray in life....and lots of ways to "stay fit."

I agree with the majority of the people here, already.

- if it sounds too good to be true; it likely is
- if it's promoted by Dr Oz; stay away - he's become a snake oil salesman, and will promote anything that pads his pocket, it appears (besides, he's no nutritionist; he's a doctor, which isn't necessarily the same thing)
- equipment, pills, videos that promise amazing results (and then in teeny tiny letters at the bottom, where you really can't read, and spin by so fast you're not supposed to, disclaim it all)
- ANYTHING that promises amazing results without work
- some program where I have to buy their foods, supplements, or advice

Good old fashioned hard work, commitment and discipline are about the only guarantees of success. It may take a while, but it lasts, because it's a learned change; not just a substitute behaviour that will end at some given point (like when your pocketbook gets empty)

I have never been into exchanging money for weight loss, so far I've only tried low carb (early 2000s) and low calorie (SP style) on my own, so I haven't actually spent any money on anything. But I've seen so many scammy type commercials for diet pills, the current one that gets a lot of play where I live is a type of coffee that supposedly melts fat off if you drink it twice/day (and of course exercise and eat a low calorie diet LOL!)

the commercials on tv that are promoting exercise equipment. Unless you really look, it is easy to miss that the results vary and are a combination of exercise and diet.

Insanity and zumba ones kill me. you do NOT need to exercise for 90 minutes at a time. But now even Tony Horton/Insanity and P90X are coming out with shorter and more intense exercise routines.

Fortunately, I can usually smell a rat before I waste my money. As always, if it sounds too good to be true, i probably is. I think the funniest one I remember as of late is the Shake Weight.

I also get really mad when I hear personal trainers promoting supplements or diets. They aren't licensed nutritionists or dieticians.

Pretty much anything I see promoted on Dr Phil.Has anyone else noticed that he's really jumped the shark when it comes to diet and fitness advice? He seems to promote just about any program or supplement that comes along. Many of them are out-and-out scams so he has to be lining his pockets by having them on his show.

Also, I'm getting tired of the multitude of diet programs that involve complicated combinations of foods/timings/supplements, designed to make you pay so much attention to the contents of your plate that you don't even realize that you're just losing weight due to the fact that you're eating 800 calories a day.

"If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong!"

The abtronic type things where it shocks you. We bought one many years ago when they first came out. Funny thing is one of our friends told us he had bought one too! Crazy. And I cant believe they're still on the market.

I bought Bob Harper's Herbal fat burners. I took those things and I felt so scammed. The only thing that got skinny was my wallet.

the Ab Flexor was the worst I've purchased.....(but I confess, it stopped me from getting stiff necks)

the TOTAL GYM was the best piece of a equipment I've ever purchased...and I was even more convinced when I had knee Arthroscopy and had to use it at the Physical Therapy office.

What program have you tried and felt like you were scammed when you got it, tried it, and realized it wasn't what it claimed to be?

The race to fitness is unending for when you reach your goals, it becomes a race to stay ahead of the temptations that seek to pull back to where you came from!
