I agree - I HATE having my pic taken . . . and the idea of someone taking it without my knowledge is worse! I have a friend who comes to visit sometimes, and she's constantly videoing all of us without letting us know. I had to ask her to stop, it made me so uncomfortable. It's one thing to know you're on camera at the atm or in a store, but when you're casually talking to someone or someone is following you around with these glasses? Really?

Blessings,
Nancy

There are times I am glad I'm not an interesting person. Few would want to "secretly" take my picture and post it on the Internet. In the circles I travel, admittedly some purposely take photos to post on social networking. It doesn't bother me.

I am that horrible person who takes a camera everywhere; I've even earned the title of the family paparazzi . I don't take the pics to post on FB; if they tell me not to, I don't. I take them for my personal collections because I love having pictures of those I love.

My step-DD was one of those with an aversion to having her picture taken. Well, I am SO GLAD that I had my video camera out that day at a party in 2006.(I know that is quite different than strangers taking your photo when out and about...but still...)

Because of it, her son will be able to appreciate seeing pictures and video of his mother holding him and loving him. Otherwise, he'd just have to take our word for it since he will never remember her. She died when he was five months old.

If in public, there's no expectation in privacy and anyone can take our pictures and pretty much do anything they want with them.

My motto is if you don't want anything public do not put it in public places such as social networks. Take it-post it- regret it.

GPS on your phone is nice when you need to find the closest Cracker Barrel. Not so much when someone wants to find you.

I do have the Life 360 ap on my smart phone and if I am ever in peril, I can hit that and it will tell my contacts where to find me. That is good.

If you type your address into Google, it will pop up with Zillow and Trulia and a lot of your homes information. I think it is all public record anyway, just easier to find.

Made it to my maintenance weight of 125 pounds.

Makes one realize that people are watching... I was in this car accident, coded in the hospital and then crossed over to the other side... saw my life... guess who else is watching? Love one another... then they catch us being kind... and maybe it will spread.

It is scary. I try to watch everything I say on all the sites. People do take things out of context.

I'm more at ease with security cameras in the street than I am with an individual with a camera fetish. A picture of someone about to have a big sneeze can make it seem like they were caught in a drug daze just by adding a few captions.
And with photoshop you can really do a number on pictures.

But hey,,,I'm not sure what I think about GPS capabilities on cell phones. I don't like the thought that someone can track my whereabouts ...be it a relationship or a boss.

This is why privacy smarts are important. Police your online reputation with a vengeance, don't attach your real name to anything unless you really must, know what your social network privacy settings are and how to change them as needed.

well, let's see. If you Google your home address, you can get a picture of your house...and probably your car in the driveway.
emoticon
I have a good friend who had moved and I wasn't sure which was her new address. I Googled the addresses, and could tell by the photos which was the correct address. BUT...there were also photos of the interior of her house (from when the house was listed with a real estate agent). That's pretty scary IMO. That a complete stranger can get familiar with the layout of your house. CREEPY.

if you live in a town of any size, there are cameras EVERYWHERE. It's way too easy for people to film or photograph you without your knowledge.

Talk about putting a photo in different context.

One time I was taking pictures at a church Christmas party. A man and woman were casually passing each other. I snapped a picture at that moment. So when I got the picture back,(in the days of film and developing) it looked like something completely different had happened. If I hadn't been there at that moment. I would think the worst. I took the picture so I knew what went down. So I promptly destroyed the picture. (good thing I was not an evil doer and I liked those people)

I am sitting here trying to figure out if I am lucky or unlucky. When there is real problems things like this seem so little. I don't know if that is good or bad. I have other worries like my Mom being out of line with my niece who is her caretaker that moved in with her. Now since she is being ungrateful she is going to an assistant living home and I don't have a clue how she will be there since had bad experiences being out of her home and in alternative places before. I rather see myself on youtube then deal with this. Most likely unless you are acting out in public, look ridiculous in the way you dress like some on that Walmart video, or super duper sexy you will be okay and not be videoed or have your photo taken.

I believe it is London where they have CCTV (closed circuit television) They even have some places in DC wired with CCTV. So yes Big Brother is definitely watching.

The laws have not caught up to technology

To a BunnyKicks, I wouldn't participate in The Harlem Shake video either. My lame excuse would have been because it is stupid.

It just feels like having your picture anonymously taken feels like stalking.
{like when you watch a suspense movie where the character gets a package of photographs of themselves...}. And it is easy to take a photo of someone and put it in an entirely different context...and people will believe it because ... as we all know... 'a picture is worth a thousand words'. Even the angle of the lense can distort the entire picture and make it look like something totally different is happening.

IHMF is right, I've just learned to accept it.

Since I don't break the law or have criminal behaviors I am not so worried about that aspect of it, I am, however, worried about being the target of Social Moral judgement via pictures and such.

My gf & I attend a lot of "Kinkster"-type events and though it's not illegal to attend these kinds of events I wouldn't want my picture plastered all over the local community "targeting" me for being immoral or different or being blackmailed.

In this case the answer is don't attend events you wouldn't want to be seen at and there lies my quandary; give up things I like to do because of someone else's morality issues?

Honestly, we are very "selective" of what we do and where we go so yeah, I guess I'm already taking precautions.

Well I'm not sure I would want to *accept it and have fun with it*, if the result is me getting captured on your video to be later mocked as "this ridiculous woman i saw today!" and eventually uploaded to youtube, turned into a gif, and becoming an internet meme.

But it IS the world we live in. I am not sure how to AVOID it. And as more and more people get involved in Facebook and Youtube and so on and so forth, it gets harder and harder to avoid. For example, at my work (a government office in a small town), someone decided we should all do the "Harlem Shake" one day ("come on it will be funnnnnnn"). Oh, and we'll video it and put it on the govt youtube page! So that everyone can see that we government workers know how to relax and be real, fun people! Hrrrrnnnnggggggg I did NOT participate but it was difficult and awkward and full-of-lame-excuses to get out of it. But WOW am I glad i stuck to my guns and refused...

Goal 1 - break 200 (46 pounds lost)**DONE**
Goal 2 - leave obesity behind (BMI 29.9, at 185#) **DONE**
Goal 3 - BMI = Normal (154# or less)

Not just photos, videos too. Hubby recorded a funny man at a McDonalds once and the man never knew it, he came home and showed me how fast a man talked, wow he talked fast lol! All you have to do is act like you are on your cell phone talking and walk near or by them to record them. I can't wait to capture something hilarious myself because I hate when I witness something funny and have no one is there with me to see it ,now that problem is solved lol. Funny stuff happens lol. Unless you are really standing out I think you are okay. We are in hundred of photos from years ago anyhow from parks, or any other attraction where people are snapping photos left and right, you are in the background or on the side etc.. We have been recorded in stores for years on their serveillance cameras. My advoice is accept it and have fun with it.

Well, if you're in the public domain (ie a street corner) you have no expectation of privacy and as long as your picture isn't being used in a slanderous or liablous way (or taking upskirt pictures, etc), it has been this way since the invention of the camera. That's why bars and other places of business are exploring ways to limit the use of google glasses and other augmented reality devices on their *private* premises.

I hate having my picture taken...even when I'm told someone is taking it.

I read the article on GOOGLE GLASSES the other day and I thought...
Great...one more way people can photograph you without your knowledge.
What concerns me is that you can't control what people do with your picture.
Post it on facebook with a story...put it on YouTube...and apparently they don't need your permission.
