lots of times the adserver (that is not controlled directly by Sparks) will select "personalized" ads just for you, based on what it finds in your browser's cookies. I looked up a shoe store online last week, and keep getting "shoe" ads ever since. I also get a lot of plus-size fashion ads, ads for the SPCA (ever since I looked up adoptable animals), travel ads (ever since I checked out some package deals on a travel website), and so on.
Clearing your cookies can help. For awhile there I was getting an ad about "training to be a registered nurse" with a picture of a nurse's hand holding a preemie-baby's tiny translucent foot... which tbh, I found distracting and almost disturbing... not sure what I'd been looking at that caused the ad-powers to decide I might be in line for nurse's college, but clearing my browser history seems to have taken care of that one.
