I have liked country music for years, but don't listen to it as much anymore since I have a Christian station on and it is hard to find the different stations on my radios in the house. In the truck I will change to the Country sometimes. I can't tell who is doing the singing anymore, though, unless it is Reba.

As I have read the many comments on this subject, I feel I must tell YA!LL about the one time I was on duty at the local gym and decided to play one country song on the complex stereo system. Well; the song was MULE SKINNER BLUES, by somebody from the fifties. People, I really thought the clients in the gym was going to lynch me, needless to say I did not do that anymore. I do not like the modern country and cannot workout to any country music, but my bride really gets into it
i CAN And will do this in spite of any obstruction be it man or beast or, friend or foe firstname.lastname@example.org

It is hard to name favorites but the artists getting the most play time on my iPod this month have been Justin Moore, Darius Rucker, Pistol Annies, Gary Allan, Trace Adkins, Kellie Pickler, and Blake Shelton.

I really enjoy country music although some of the contemporary artists are a little over the top. There is nothing like the Hank Williams Sr. genre.
BTW, ever play a country song backwards?

To my ears the women usually sound like their crying over their men and the guys usually sound like their women 'done them wrong'. vs the hip hop version the women are looking for a fun loving man and the guys are looking for That woman
I prefer new age jazz...

As a kid, I used to hate country, because my parents listened to it all the freaking time! I swore that as an adult, I would never listen to country. Well...I grew up, times changed, and I do like country music...just as I enjoy most types of music (though country is still not considered my favorite).
A sampling of country music I enjoy is from artists such as: Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Hank Williams Jr, Tracy Lawrence, The Judds, Tammy Wynette, Kenny Rogers, David Allen Cole, John Montgomery, Charlie Rich, Roger Miller, etc.

I looked up that category on google and couldn't find it but thanks for the heads up.
The replies here remind me of Alternative Music from the 80's in that I remember having a discussion at a party back in the late 80's about alternative music (called new wave back then) and this girl was saying she loved New Wave like Madonna, Duran Duran, Cyndi Lauper and Culture Club and this guy that was sorta listening all of a sudden chimed in and immediately argued that those artists/groups weren't new wave but that The Cure, Depeche Mode and New Order was "Real New Wave".
I have listened to a lot of the suggestions listed and have come to a preliminary conclusion: if I get the sense of "twanginess" in the music then I tend not to finish listening to the song. I also discovered that LYRICS have zero meaning to me which is the same for all the other kinds of music I listen to except for instrumental jazz (my favorite kind of music forever).

If you want "real country" music, not the "bubble gum" shallow country music, look for classic country on satellite radio please. The current "hot country" is nothing but shiny pop music. They should call it that, too.......................just sayin'

Unfortunately, here in Lebanon, we don't get country music, except when a song tops the charts in Europe. However, I love Kennt Rogers, Shania Twayne, Leeann Rimes, Faith Hill, plus some songs of Rascal Flatts, Blake Shlton, and a few others.
I'm not much of a fan either....my daughter LOVES Kenny Chesney, but he seems to whine a lot LOL.
I do like the Dixie Chicks--they've got a lot of spunk and I love their vocals. I saw Garth Brooks back in his heyday and I will have to admit he puts on a great show.
My dad was a huge fan of Johnny Cash, Hank Sr, Porter Wagner, Dolly Parton, Johnny Horton, and Patsy Cline.

I like all the below that have been listed EXCEPT TAYLOR SWIFT. Yuck. I normally change the station when I hear her whiny songs.
I also like John Denver, Patsy Cline, Roy Clark
My Dad loved country oldies. I know he still listens to it, but with my stepmother has also increased his tunes to other genres. As a child, you are not supposed to like what your parents listened to so i hated country. I was more into easy listening and some pop.
I worked at a deli right after college and we went out for drinks after work one night. Garth Brooks was on the jukebox followed by George Strait. Have to say I got hooked.

In addition to the others already mentioned, I like Eric Church a lot. He's more on the rock side of country but I really like his albums. Lee Brice is good too. I like Miranda Lambert by herself, but I also like her "side' girl group, Pistol Annies. I go to a country music festival every year with SO and his family, so we get to see a lot of big acts every year, it's fun.

I'll admit that I'm not much of a country music fan either, but there are a handful of artists I do like. If you prefer a more rock based type country, you might enjoy Rascal Flatts. And the alternative band, the Kings of Leon, are considered country based. You might also like Garth Brooks.
Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift are two popular pop/country artists too.
And this name hasn't popped up yet. He's not really country, he's more of a ballad singer. That's Lyle Lovett. His stuff is wonderful. I love his voice.

I don't listen to very much country music either. I tend to prefer OLD stuff - Don Williams, Hank Sr, Johnny Cash
of the newer artists - I love Josh Turner. Very distinctive voice and I really like his songs.
Sis listens to country all the time. The only artist I know by name that I like from listening to the radio with her is Zack Brown Band.
George Strait Keeny Chesney Garth Brooks Patsy Cline Loretta Lynn Johnny Cash Alan Jackson Martina Mcbride Sugarland Lady Antebellum and many, many more! Oh yeah must have his name down Brad Paisley

I could care less about this new age country/pop crossover crap. I have a few that I like, such as Blake Sheltons, "Kiss my Country A$$" I love that one. But give me classic country any day. Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty to name a few.
Brad Paisley, Martina McBride and any of the older country musicians like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash have my votes....and I love dancing to the newer country music that leans towards rock. I'm a fan of all kinds of music, and the internet makes it so easy to preview music to see if you like it before you buy it. Have fun in your search!

I am NOT a fan of country music but I don't hate it either. My gf LOVES it and I want to give it a second chance for her sake so I can enjoy it with her. I only can name two grops: Little Big Town and Lonestar. I like the music from both of those groups.
