No, it can't. Yoga is primarily about flexibility and balance. Even the poses that are strength-related are generally not effective enough to build strength at all. Yoga is primarily about flexibility. It's a great exercise, and I encourage everyone to do it, but you are not going to improve strength or provide enough challenge to preserve lean muscle mass the way a full-body strength training program will.
