I find if I lose motivation I come to sp and read some message boards. People's success and setbacks let me know I am not alone in this. And it shows me my progress graphically. The first few weeks I was on here constantly!

lmao, I feel I am in the remedial class of sparkies right now..

I just found out where my mail was and how to give points to other members lolol after being on here for a little over a week

My favorite are the recipes so far, I always get bored with the same foods and every recipes I have tried which was about 1 full weeks of new foods.. it came out perfect and it was sooo delicious, couldn't even tell it was healthy!!! Best of all we have huge picky eaters in the family and they claimed sparkies recipes their now new favorite!

I am still slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwly learning how to use spark myself and this is an awesome thread .. Here is to bumping it back up to the top to keep it going so it doesn't get lost.. I wish there was a way to find it all the time hahahah

Here is to learning! Thank you sparkies for the best advice, the huge awesome support I have ever seen in an online community.. and Thank you for being there for words when others need it in the times they need special words so they don't give up and keep going!

Ya all are awesome!

I'm fairly new to SP and picked up some helpful hints through reading this message board thread. I recommend exploring SP to find the areas that help you most when you need it. Use the trackers and gain motivation through the support offered by members of SP. I'm glad a friend brought me to this site.

I love reading the success stories, blogs and articles. I also love the support that we get from other members. its just an all around positive sight to be on. we are among a bunch of loving caring people.

I love the Nutrition and Fitness trackers. But I have also met some of the most incredible supportive people on this site. Where else do you run into people who lose 100 pounds and run marathons????
I have exchanged great recipes, gotten wonderful new ideas about clean eating, bust most importantly I realized I am not alone. Every time I struggle with something, there is someone else overcoming the same issue.
I have learned that my 100% is not the same every day, and that success is not a straight line. Our bodies are more than mathematical equations. It is about patience, perseverance and about genuinely loving ourselves no matter what stage of our journeys we are on.

How can I count the ways? I like when I write a blog whether I am happy or blue and people write me and say, "I feel what you are saying" or encourage me in some way and I in turn can reach out to them PERSONALLY and give them a word or a thought or a suggestion or an encouraging word or a SparkHug or Goodie. There's nothing sweeter.

Its just one of many though...I am thankful everyday for Sparkpeople....no doubt about that.

I personally like the nutrition tracker. It really helps keep me on the right track...especially when I see the ideas sparkpeople gives me on how to put together meals. There are also great videos and recipes and articles...and of course the people. There really is something to motivate and support every type of person here, you just need to dig around to see what's here.

For me, it is a combo of it all. You see, when you go to the my sparkpoints page, it has things to help you earn points toward your next level. Tracking food and fitness, for me is HUGE, really helps me stay on track. BUT, what I have noticed, is that I get competitive with myself and want to gain more and more points. So I do everything that I can to earn more points. This is huge to help me stay on track. Reading the member blogs help, the articles. You learn about how important the diet part (by that I mean food, not a temporary fix) is to your overall fitness level! I love it!

Especially for thinnyminny: The 'Biggest Loser' has nothing on you. I see your results and determine that I can do it to. I just started sparkpeople yesterday after walking 2.25 miles. Took the April challenge, got up early today, ate a sensible breakfast (haven't done that in a loooong time), did 1mile walk, and came back feeling really refreshed. First time I'm excited at thinking success is possible. It helps me to read the comments - energizes me. Your's struck a note deep inside me. Thank you for the incentive.

Ditto everyone else. For me, it is definitely tracking the food and reading the wealth of information in the articles. Also the free exercise videos are top of the line.

The food tracker is also good in another way: since mine is public because of a challenge team I'm on, I sometimes don't eat something because I don't want to admit to my teammates that I ate it!! Has spared me many chocolate moments of madness...

I love the tracking food and fitness features. I also use spark coach...cheap to sign up for a year and it has me check in daily and keeps me motivated and on track even more. I have joined some groups but goals are a bit different. I still find them helpful to check in once in a while. There are some good work out videos as well. By being on daily and tracking my food, I keep my goal in clear focus. It's really helped..I've lost 30lbs in 2years...I find when I stop tracking and keeping mindful, I end up on a plateau or gaining some weight back. Good luck! I hope you find what you need to be successful!

For me the nutrition tracker is the biggest tool to aid in weight loss. If you write everything down that you put in your mouth it makes you accountable!
I recently started posting on the forums and it gives me a great sense of community.

Amazing amount of help here: blogs, nutrition tracker, you can make yourself some personnel goals on your SparkPage. Also Sparkfriends, but on that I would say don't overdo it because just in my opinion that can become a drawback. Like a couple of people said one SparkBuddy can be good. I have one special SparkBuddy for quite some time now.

I too love all the resource material on SP. But it wasn't until 5 days ago I got myself a buddy, and THAT has made all the difference.

If you're struggling...go looking for a buddy.

If someone asks you to be a buddy...say yes and you'll both benefit.
Cheers,
Sandi

Sparkpeople is great for support! I recently got myself a sparkbuddy who i message everyday about my day (both good and bad!) and she responds back to be. She gives me advice and encouragment. I feel i need to be more accountable so i dont have to admit i failed for the day or lie and said my diet was great when in reality i downed a giant slice of cake!
Alos having people comment on my blogs giving me positive feedback helps!

HI LYNN !!! first, I feel that we are FAMILY. There is a place how much you want to lose and when you want to reach it. I think you can see SUPPORT & MOTIVATION is the first 2 important. You want to do this for YOU. I am 72 1/2 yrs. old and I am doing this for health reasons. A lot of other SPARKPEOPLE want to lose maybe 25 lbs. or whatever, but I feel (me) and I have mentioned to other SPARKPEOPLE, if you want something bad enough YOU WILL SUCCEED. I always end my messages with this:- LET'S DO IT !!! emoticon . GOOD LUCK.

I love looking at all the blogs and the success stories....it's also great how people seem to encourage each other on here - that is so helpful - to get a kind word, out of the blue from someone you don't even know!! It means a lot :)

Hi Grandmafranny, I agree we need to set the bar for others. Some days are harder than others, but we need to keep going. It's always good to have spark friends to share ideas, recipes and encouragement. We can do this. Have a wonderful Easter. God bless. Marge emoticon

I like to look at the different videos they have for exercise. I'm glad they have an array of them, so I won't get bored. Also, coming onto the message boards helps me. Everyone here is so motivating and supporting, because we have all been there at the starting line.

There are so many things about SP that provide support, and I add new things as I go along. I love the nurtrition tracker, and I believe it is critical to my success. The small amount of time that I spend is valuable for my health. I read motivation articles and success stories when I need the reminders of why I'm doing this. The recipes inspire me to create my own as well. The weight tracker with the reports graph helps me see that I really am making progress.

Thank you for that remark. I am only starting my 4th week and the time for logging really does seem a burden. I was hoping it would get easier. Some days I think, how can I have time to exercise too! I have just discovered the 'food grouping' section which I do think will be a big help. I do tend to eat the same combinations of food several days a week.

Blogging and putting yourself out there keeps you honest. I started an exercise streak and blogging every couple of days about my progress toward the mini-goal has made me exercise when I really didn't feel like it.

Lay aside life-harming heaviness and entertain a cheerful disposition.

HI !!! You are bending and turning and that is burning "calories" I retired in 2010 at 70 yrs. old and worked at CVS as a cashier, for 6 yrs., too. Cashier has it advatages you're alsoThe walking also . If you get a pedometer checked out how many miles you have walked. Yes eat dinner but while eating sip on a glass of water and have a timer. Depending what you eat use at most 20. minutes to eat your meal. Between the water and chewing now that is to yor advantage. GOOD LUCK, GOD BLESS YOU & LET'S DO IT !!! emoticon

Today was an I blew it day. Should I still eat dinner? Part of the problem is getting home at or after 7p.m. I eat the most at lunch cause I am stilling burning calories for the next 4 hours.

How can I count my job as a cashier? 8 hrs a day lifting, stretching bending half step side to side movements?

The "panic button" has really helped me. Being able to get support just before (or after) you've blown your calorie limit for the day has helped me start afresh the next day and not get trapped by guilt into eating more. Thanks for the help, everyone! emoticon

I have been with Spark for almost a year now and I too found that having to add things was a bother and took alot of time. However, now that they are added, it is much easier and faster. I tend to eat a lot of the same things so I only have to add every now and again. Please don't let this discourage you

Yes you can!

Just a thought....if you use a cell phone that takes pictures ~ instead of writing or logging each item TAKE A PICTURE!! It is a good reminder when u don't feel like logging in!
As far as diabetes, Sparkspeople has a program specifically for diabetes.
Wish u well,,

The Sparkcoach program is a little more focused, and there's a free trial of it you can do.

But I've found the best way to get support from SP is to support others. Find a couple people through a Sparkteam or something and get involved in their journey. You're a lot less likely to fall when you know that you're holding someone else up, too!

And I'm sure someone has mentioned Spark teams. They're awesome, and you can find one that matches any interest!

Tracking my food keeps me constantly aware of what I'm putting in. I personally need that constant reminder and accountability to myself to keep me on track. I track my workouts, too, but that just feels like my own little brag book!
