Knitting and listening to music does it for me.

A few of my go-to's:

- WALKING. Outside, inside with headphones, any place I can move my feet and be in motion.
- Crafts.
- Reading. I suggest even going to your local library to read, usually they have a few comfy chairs and they discipline the loud teenagers! And TONS of free magazines! Try something like Womens Health and pick up a few healthy tips too. Bonus!
- Cooking. I used to be SO stressed by it, but now I find it gives me some time to be in my head and accomplish something. Sunday afternoon meal cooking time feels so good!
- This is probably really random, but I also enjoy thrift shopping. Digging through stuff clears my head and I have found some awesome bargains!

Good luck!

If you can get to a park with paths, that's always comforting to me (too cold now, and ice on the paths).

A bubble bath (can get expensive).

As you mentioned, mani/pedi. Not sure where you live, but in Atlanta you can find places that do it for $20 (I know, that can be a lot).

A feel good/funny book - such as the First Ladies Detective Agency series (the heroine is a lady of "traditional proportions"), the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series (although the heroine eats junk all the time while keeping thin, some of the food mentions make me hungry), Sue Grafton novels.

For a mind reboot, 10 mins of meditation (set a timer, concentrate on feeling your breath, fight any thoughts other than those about breathing from coming into your head).

Thank you everyone for your ideas...just reading about them makes me feel relaxed!

I'm not a reader, but I will try to pick up a book that'll fancy my interest.

Cool idea of a "hidey hole".

Weather improving...haha we just got 10 inches of snow here, hehe, YES i love the outdoors though.

Once the weather starts improving, maybe take a walk at a park, sunshine, find a bench and read there?

The library is a good idea, or if you have a Barnes and Noble close by you can go there and just pick up a book, find a cozy chair and read for awhile.

The other option goes back to the old commercial "Calgon, take me away". Even if you don't have a decent bathtub (which I don't) - just shut the bedroom door, take a warm shower, sing if you want, and relax.

The other ideas (except the shooting range sorry) sound great too.

I second the suggestion for going to the library. You can catch up on magazine reading, browse cookbooks for new recipes, discover new authors, etc.

Also, how about a cheap matinee at the movie theater? That's always a nice break for me and costs less than a manicure. :)

Maybe a yoga class? You'd have some time for yourself and release stress and get in a work out to boot.

I have my personal "hidey hole", that place where I reach back into my memory and recall a favorite time and lock myself into that image. Mine is sitting on the porch with my dog watching a downpour. Just me and Frisky. Pure solitude.

I read for at least half an hour in the evening before I go to sleep; it helps me to de-stress and relax. Often, it's my favorite time of the day.

For me, reading is my ME time! I read in the car outside school while waiting to pick up my kids...I read when they're at school & I'm sitting down for lunch...I read while on my exercise bike working out...I read when they're in bed at night. Gotta love 7:30 bedtime!

I would try your local library for a quiet corner...coffee shops are fun, but tend to be "social" instead of quiet.

What are a few ways you like to unwind?

The past few times I've visited my fav coffee shop (caribou), it's been crawling with high schoolers...loud/distracting.
I can't stay home and read, too many kids running around.

Where should I go to relax?

I love to get my nails done, but we are pinching pennies lately.
