I have a hard time parting with books too, but I make myself go through them and purge them at least once per year. I donate them to an organization that holds a used book sale in April and the proceeds go to WISE, which has a shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. It makes it easier for me to part with them when I know I am supporting a good cause. When I bring new paperbacks or hardcovers into the house, I try to balance that out by finding an equal number of already read books to add to my donate pile.
(Now that I have a Kindle though, that has cut way down on my book clutter.)
When I am finished with my magazines, I leave them in the mail room where I live. I have many neighbors who are on fixed incomes who enjoy magazines but can't afford subscriptions. Nursing homes appreciate magazines also.
Never, never, never give up. ~Winston Churchill
I am living with Stage IV breast cancer and gastroparesis. I have been with Spark People since July 2006.
