When people are addicted to something, they come up with every excuse in the book to justify their actions! The definition according to AA of what an addiction is "If you do something that causes yourself or others PROBLEMS or TROUBLE and decide to do it anyways." If watching TV is not keeping you from reaching your goals, (and I'm including ALL of your goals especially the ones you use the excuse that you don't have enough time in your day or you say you're too busy to do whatever it is you should be doing) and you list a "GOOD REASON" for watching TV instead of getting those things done, you should ask yourself this simple question: Who am I truly hurting by lying to myself! I am not posting this here for people to share justifications for watching TV but to challenge those who might have come to a place where they can recognize it as a problem! Some will choose to ignore this post and marry their TV because it has become a sacred part of their life! They will see this as an attack on them while they put up their defences to protect their God given rights to watch TV regardless of what they sacrifice for that right! I am not speaking to those who have such commitments for it is your right to make such decisions!
I am, however, trying to encourage those who may recognize that the time they spend sitting in front of a TV is hurting them!
Knitting could be spent in the presence of a friend but that is your choice and you are welcomed to it! I'm not really sure how posting that will help others except it is far better than sitting sedentary doing nothing more than vegetating.
Special shows that don't take away from your time better spent doing something more important can be deemed acceptable because it is you, that are in control of your own actions and this is what you chose to do with your free time!
If you are active while watching the TV and meeting your goals, that is great and more power to you!
But if you don't have time for the more important things and you have goals that you are not meeting, consider killing the TV as a way to take you closer to your goals!
Some say that a TV can be considered as an idol that people worship at the expense of living! To watch others living on TV while you kill yourself by sitting idly on the couch!
Allowing yourself to be brain washed by the ads and the rhetoric that is spewed out of the TV!
Some will now decide to defend their choice of shows! That again is not my point.
Chose this day to either live the life you dream of rather than sitting in your home either living the life you've dreamed of or are pretending to live that life so that you can live that life through them vicariously!
Whatever you chose is your choice! The question is, IS IT HELPING YOU REACH YOUR GOALS and if not, KILL YOUR TV and realize that living life is far more beneficial than witching others live it while you sit wishing you had the life you dreamed of!
The race to fitness is unending for when you reach your goals, it becomes a race to stay ahead of the temptations that seek to pull back to where you came from!
