Update:

The smell of that damn agave syrup hanging in the bottom of the cup. (I am a Type 2 diabetic, and agave is not on MY no-no list, but still ...this workaround pushes it)

Well, at least I drank practically all of the the coffee I brewed, anyway ...

And, as the Jamaicans say, currently feelin' irie ...

Getting that Blonde (roast) to behave:

I don't know, maybe it's the luck of the draw, but I managed to tame the taste of (CVS) Gold Emblem Select 100% Arabica Breakfast Blend .... [notes of fresh black olives in that drip roast, I swear!]

with a premeasured packet of organic agave syrup per 12 oz. mug.

[I manage to request them from every Starbucks I order food at. Let them think I need it to slather on everything ...would I guess that it is about a teaspoon and a half per pack?

I am BAD dieter who doesn't measure out everything, but then I am finally succeeding against wasting syndrome ...

That extremely moderately priced blonde swill can, like the shrew, be tamed ...

Discovered I actually can have perfect-tasting Starbucks Veranda Blend at home, but it must be done in a drip (machine or manual) and it should ideally be done using gold permanent filters (NOT paper filters) ... thinking that I'd had the wrong (too-fine) grind from the supermarket (it's actually a little cheaper/more customizable if they do it at the restaurant for you--just, you have to buy in bigger quantity which is not desirable to me at this time ...)

I've a taste for the blondes (in blends) ... and a taste find this good comes at the end of a long search ...

Their Veranda in VIA (instant coffee packets) form tastes bitter .. yuck!

I used to live in Huntsville AL. We have the Kaffeklatch down town that roasts its own coffee. You could smell it every where. I followed my nose there and learned about different coffees. I miss that place.
When I have left over coffee, I put it in ice trays and freeze it. I will use these cubes to make my own iced coffee. No diluted ice coffee here. And I love flavored coffee (I flavor my own).

That's really funny--my doctor had told me the opposite.

Have some coffee (instant or ANY kind), he said, every day emoticon

I was entering my first forays into sports nutrition ... not yet having got a handle on weight control, though; and ditched caffeinated coffee and practically all caffeinated tea, in favor of St. John's Wort, for a two year period.

Mental confusion (and all hilarity) ensued ... this happened after I'd switched jobs from temping to a more permanent position with a lengthy commute (nowhere near as long and convoluted as that of the job that laid me off), and I'd had to do secretarial work.

So it was back to coffee. In those days, I'd thought Starbucks was this burnt swill ... so it was the dilute muffin shop stuff ..

I bought a cup with a filter in the bottom that you can put ground coffee in the bottom and then trap the grounds and drink from. Work has a decent coffee maker - I'm in charge of purchases - but I use the cup for art class etc.

My doctor told me not to drink instant coffee so I always have an excuse to brew my own.

I actually love the Gold drip filters, and had not realized that they come in single-cup-at-a-time varieties. Until shopping on Amazon, where on that site you find the most vibrant coffee aficionados (but the DIY kind, like me) this side of that cafe in Rome that had inspired in Howie Schultz the creation of Starbucks. NO LIE.

Back in the day, when flower power was king, I certainly did not like the paper filter taste of the drip I'd made myself. That had turned me off. Sometimes I taste it in the coffee from the little delis, too; and they are professionals.

In other news, if one is, sadly, constrained to drinking Instant, I've got three coffee-snob-pleasing Instant Coffee recommendations, in order of tastiness to me ...

1. Starbucks VIA Ready Brew Pike Place roast (I started out liking the Colombia, then briefly their Veranda blend ... both of them end with a bad after-bite, however)

2. Whole Foods' 365 Everyday Value Instant Coffee

(looks just like Tasters' Choice, but it is in a whole other League!)

(I know ... I KNOW ..I'd boycotted them for even longer than I'd boycotted Starbucks, but their respective instant coffees are enough to break them boycotts every time)

3. Trader Joe's 100% Colombian Instant Coffee

(This one kinda looks like Tasters' Choice, too. Never got a chance to have boycotted Traders)

In a take-out vein, I also like Tim Hortons and the NEW Au Bon Pain coffee a lot better than Dunkin's

There's a small coffee shop here in town that roasts their own beans, I buy their Sumatra beans....so far it's the only coffee I've found I enjoy drinking w/out 'foo foo' in it.

I love coffee and live above a cafe so treat myself to a espresso (black) no sugar most days.

I also love biscuits with my coffee and if I had them in the house would ate the packet:in the cafe the one that comes with the coffee is enough to satisfy without going overboard. I also usually bring home one packet of sugar so I have some in the cupboard for guests but not a large bag as then I might go baking. Finally the coffee cost 1.2 euro and I read the paper that costs 1 euro, all in all great value for money.

I use K-Cups manually. You could see blog posts this nutritionista wrote, chronicling the process (it is not easy). Even now that I've been laid off, I do not have the room for a Keurig machine. And as long as they don't have only those see-through cups on the market, I can do a space-saving workaround.

Oh, and now, I suddenly don't really have the funds for a Keurig machine.

I don't have the room for an automatic drip machine, not even a no-frills Mr. Coffee 4 cup machine. I'd donated my only one (rusted out after about 3 or so decades, unused) to my former place of business. It broke down after 5 months (oh, well....) Well, theoretically I could (sort of) clear the space for the footprint for a new one that might break down after 1 year, if used the way I plan to use it. [ Maybe longer if I find some work.]

But I think I am finally turning into my late aunt. A defiant instant coffee drinker for many, many decades I would not drink that stupid coffee of hers that took so long to do after a fairly short while. But the K-Cups with the manual workaround, turned me into a drip-lover. So I am getting (a non-broken-down, non-jerry-rigged version of her) manual cup at a time drip apparatus .... .

I bought myself a Keurig a few months ago, and I have never been so happy. I used to grab a coffee at work, but it was terrible. Or I'd pay too much for one on the way into work. But now I can enjoy a cup at my leisure in the mornings before I have to see anyone...mmmmmmm...

Coffee is the one thing I cant break from, and iI am extremely picky, it has to be from somewhere or it has to be the darkest roast coffe from a K-cup, with cream and sugar,, its my one daily treat, and personal me time in the morning!

I have always been told that coffee, and to some degree, iced tea do not count toward the daily consumption of water.

BUT, I do like a very bold and strong coffee but I only drink it in the AM and it doesn't taste the same with all the chemo I am taking. In fact, everything tastes different. Drat!!!

Pretty sure the diuretic effect of the caffeine in coffee/tea counteracts the water content. I call it a wash (punny!!) and leave it out of my water total for the day.

My coffee bliss for the day was a warm-up cup to get my day started. Really needed it after a week of nights short on sleep.

Eight O'Clock The Original [by the Eight O'Clock Coffee Company] in a drip grind (or K-Cup - in K-Cups, also Aldi's Beaumont Donut Store Blend - do not trust their drip in that one) ... brewed dilutely ... bliss and at a good value, too!

Yes, even though I had been born and raised in a 7-11-free zone (New York City at the time I'd become a lover of 7-11 coffee), I had been living in localities in Colorado and Florida year-round, and non-recreationally, for years at a time ... now 7-11 is of course a frequent happenstance here in NYC ...

I have 2 cups every morning, that first cup I just relax and look out the sliding doors into the back yard before I am up and getting ready for work :-)

I put a little dark chocolate in my coffee this morning for an extra mocha boost. Tasted good, but the sludge that settled out was not blissful. Live and learn.

I love it, but never drink any after 4PM (it interferes with my sleep).
