I'm glad you were able to poop. I'm also glad you were able to share so others can help and maybe get helped themselves.
I like to have a few almonds in the evening. They make all kinds of flavored ones these days. Almonds are very good for you and are a good source of fiber.

Due to a Hemoglobin deficiency, I was prescribed iron pills. I can honestly say that I hate those little green pills. Really screwed up my digestive system. I have boosted my water intake, Metamucil every day, fiber one cereal, a probiotic, and stool softener. Things appear t be getting better but still marginal in the B/M department.

It is very rare when I don't have a BM every day or even more than one a day. I have noticed that cheese tends to constipate me so I eat it very moderately or with an apple.

If i haven't had coffee in a while, regular coffee really works. But now i have stomach problems as well as bowel problems. I have taken flax seed, metumucil, oatmeal, use to make me go, went to the gastro, and had an endoscopy, for stomach issues, and he put me on an antacid. and he told me to take senna teas or try miralax, but for some reason my body gets used to whatever i am taking, right now i am bloated, and gassy, i drink lots of water, and my fiber is usually 25 or higher for the day and i exercise, so not sure, i have had my first colonoscopy, nothing. so all of that is good, but if i don't take something, i can easily not go for 3-4 days, before, it never bothered me, had lots of passing of gas, but now, i am just bloated and uncomfortable. but the best for me was regular coffee for a couple of days and lay off and then drink another cup of coffee

Here is a strange solution .............. Why is it I can go into a store and within 10 minutes have to find the restroom!!?$# ............. Oddly, I have heard while shopping, our body sends out neurotransmitters (Dopamine) and I think this has an action ................. Who knew? Maybe retail shopping really is THERAPEUTIC!? ..............

I actually just had this exact same problem, and it didn't make any sense to me because I was getting a lot more fibre than when I wasn't eating healthy, along with a ton of veggies and at least 8 glasses of water a day. I took a natural supplement called "cleanse more", which I found at my local natural foods store. It helped me, but I would still check with a doctor just to make sure nothing else is up :)

Fours day is an awfully long time without a bowel movement. Have you called your doctor ? It probably wouldn't hurt to get a professional opinion. There could be something else going on.
I know that when I started eating more fiber, it did take a while to adjust. but not four days. When I was a child, whenever I had bathroom issues, my mom would give me Phillips Milk of Magnesium. That's a possible over the counter option for a stool softener if you're having problems going. I wouldn't take a laxative without talking to your doctor. A laxative could cause more issues than just a four day "blockage".

Are you on any medication? Certain ones cause constipation. Metamucil can help and possibly for a quick fix try hot water with a teaspoon of vinegar. Even some fat in your diet will help. The body needs fats.

Pitted prunes (Sunsweet, etc.) are a good fiber choice for constipation. One serving of prunes is about 5 (not very many). And if you eat two servings, you will head to the bathroom before bedtime.
Prunes are a much better alternative than store laxatives and such things.

I see a lot about fiber in the previous posts and that is good w/ lots of water ....... But four days is very long and the body should be cleansing daily if it has the right combinations of fiber, and liquid to 'sweep away' the garbage. ONE THING is to look at is WHAT is causing the constipation? ........... Cheese is really a culprit as even a small amt for many is binding .............. PRUNES .......... I like to take a small pot and stew some ........... only takes 5 minutes and prunes are a great source of fiber that is helpful .............. For some, cooked carrots help. Everyone is different ............ but you want to get to moving.

I tend to get a little backed up when I have a few really high fiber days without enough water to wash it down with. I do think fiber could be the problem.
Sometimes I take exlax, but you have to be careful with laxatives to only take them when necessary and not for vanity reasons (feeling like...well...poop...definitely qualifies as a good reason to take them, but if you haven't pooped a day before a weigh-in, that ISN'T okay :P). Since I don't usually have problems, I take a half dose of the stuff, and it normally gets things moving again in 6-12 hrs. Not too bad!
Natural routes are fine, but I don't particularly find any difference between "natural laxatives" and "laxative drugs." They make the body do the same thing (the chemical compounds might actually be identical), and I prefer to have chocolate :P But try the hot water/herbal teas first because if you're going to up your fiber you should also up your water intake.

It isn't normal to go more than two days without a good poo, and I don't think increasing the fiber backed you up. Constipation is nothing new to me. Hot water or hot herbal tea should help get things moving for you. There is a tea called "Smooth Moves" by Traditional Medicinals which contains senna, which is a natural laxative. The last resort is Dulcolax, but that's not something you want to grow dependant on. Try to go the natural route first. A saline enema will definately help if you're desperate. They are really cheap..Like $3 for two. You can heat it up by running it under hot water before you open it and set it up. ONLY do it if the hot water or hot herbal tea doesn't help. Feel better soon!

I haven't pooped in like 4 days and I'm starting to get a fullness and pressure in my gut that's uncomfortable. Is this normal? I think I increased my fiber intake too fast...Ugh
