I've been on PPIs the entire time I've been on Spark, since 2006. I don't believe that they affect my weight, because I was able to get down to and maintain my goal weight while on them. While I am slightly over my goal weight right now, I blame that on the diet I have to follow for gastroparesis.
Anyway, it's probably not the medication itself, but the fact that you have your appetite back after feeling so sick with the acid reflux. I think when you get your appetite back after having lost it for a time, your hunger drive goes into "overdrive" at first. That was my experience back in 2004; the last half of 2003 I was on heavy duty chemo, which killed my appetite, and once I got past the effects of the chemo on my taste buds and the nausea, it didn't take me long to put back on the weight I lost, and some extra, once I stopped chemo.
Never, never, never give up. ~Winston Churchill
I am living with Stage IV breast cancer and gastroparesis. I have been with Spark People since July 2006.
